I have a copper coil and its horrible.
My boyfriend can sometimes feel it when we're doing stuff, my periods are heavier and I'm bleeding between periods a lot. It also gives me really bad cramps and it stings like a cow to have put in.

Did anyone hear that Mirena is causing complications in some women? (A specific IUD.) I had just asked my nurse practitioner at PP about it at my physical. I decided against it because she said I would have several months of spotting. Really glad I did that.

I have a friend who was on Yaz and got a ton of cysts. They had a very large lawsuit as well.

Quick question to anyone else using the nexplanon implant. Or the implant in general. Do you get breast pain? Over the course of having my implant, my breasts have gotten significantly bigger, but I sometimes get sharp pains which for the first two months I mistook for chest pains so ended up in a&e quite a bit, but of course, nothing wrong. Turned out to be breast pain. I'd just like to know if anyone has any similar experiences?

I didn't know where to put this so, I thought here would be better.

I've never used any contraceptive aside from condoms. I was going to get the arm implant one, but then my boyfriend told me he's getting a vasectomy done, so yay Smile no more worrying about getting pregnant (I haven't had sex in a year for my fear of getting pregnant). We don't want children, ever, so this is perfect for us and it saves me from putting more pills in my body and living with anxiety of the possibility of getting pregnant.

It looks like 'breast tenderness' is a side effect of implant birth control. (I think it is for most birth control.) However, sharp shooting pains are not what is meant by "tenderness", in my opinion.

I would call a doctor/nurse, if that's possible with the way your healthcare system is set up, before going in, if possible. They might be able to put your mind at ease quickly.

I was about to go on the pill right before I found out I was pregnant, and it's a good thing I didn't because it would have messed up my pregnancy I believe. I was never on the pill, I only used condoms. I think after this pregnancy though, I'll go on the pill.

    @ druscilla.
Thank you. I've been to the doctor countless times about it, but she did say pain was a side effect. I'm at the doctors next week anyway, so I'll say again to be put at ease. :)

I'm going to my doctor this week for a consult on birth control, though my mind is basically set on the copper IUD. I've heard mostly good things about it, though I've heard some bad things too (some people said it took three months for spotting to go away, which is ridiculous). I hope my body takes it well, because I'd rather not take hormonal birth control. I haven't tried any, but when I was looking at the Mirena IUD and I looked at some forums, a lot of people said Mirena screwed up their life (non-existant sex drive, crazy mood swings, cramping and spotting, etc.).

I'm on the patch and I love it. When I was on the pill, I was very sick, and it made me all moody and hormonal, which no one liked.
Being on the patch is really nice. I've gained a little weight but nothing too bad and my acne has cleared up. I'm happy with it!

I feel so limited in my contraceptive choices because I can't take anything with estrogen and the progestin-only pill destroys my skin. I'm currently not on birth control because of my acne but I really should be; it's stressing me out so much. Unsure

Mirena has a very small amount of progestin, less than any pill or shot... you may want to consider that, if IUDs don't scare you. Skyla/Jaydess is also an option (it's like a smaller Mirena, and it lets out even less progestin).

Does the patch stay on really well? That's like the biggest thing I'd worry about. When my doctor and I went over birth control options I asked her and she was like, "... well, anyway..." so I don't think she thought I was being serious.

Yeah, it stays on very well for me. I've only had it fall off once and I've been on it for almost 6 months.

The whole permanently-in-the-uterus thing freaks me out a little, but I think I'll have to sort something out regarding birth control. I hadn't heard of the last two types so I'll definitely check them out.

    Thanks. Cute

There are some that go in the arm, closer to your shoulder.

I'm going on birthcontrol soon but I have no idea what I want. I'm terrified of blood clots, IUDs are an absolutely not, and I'm afraid of gaining weight off the shot.

    In other words, I'm screwed,

If you're okay with taking a pill every day, progestin-only-pills do not give you greater chance of blood clots. The combined pill, which has estrogen and progestin, does.
