"I used to play soccer when I was like eight. Used to be kinda alright at it I guess. But my mom made me quit the team one day after she got in a fight with the coach. I asked about joining the middle school team when we moved - thought maybe it'd make me less miserable about dad being dead - but we didn't have the money to pay for it, so I couldn't. "It's not that I choose to keep them in my life, I have to because of my father. The priests, Hotep and Huy are the spiritual leaders and the high priests so they pretty much serve a purpose in Papa's eyes. If it were up to me, I would have banished them long ago." -Maya, Whispering Wings

"I can understand a bit of Japanese. The basics; barely. Dad's half and mom's full, but they're locals so they can't speak it fluently. I decided to take Japanese in high school because I'm about 3/4s Japanese...and because I heard the teacher would take us on these food field trips." - Kenan, The Branded Girl
