Do you ever find yourself reading you old works? Maybe online, in an old journal, as file you saved to your computer, or a piece you wrote on a scrap of paper from a burst of creativity?

I found some old journals I had years ago and I sat there reading through them and some of my stuff I was like "Where in the hell did I come up with this!?"

I've always been told I have a crazy imagination but some of that is still crazy to read even now!

Alright alright anyone else have this happen?

[ Since I redirected you here, I may as well post! ]

I've read through all my old stuff from when I was around 12-13 and it's pretty horrible, if I'm being honest. Fanfictions without a plot, rumors without a source. It was pure fantasy, not a hint of the real world to be seen.

Glorified self-harm, depression, and suicide; badly written/inaccurate band members sorry Billie Joe; wild plots and mad bitches and insane amounts of mushy, squelchy, moldy angst. Never going back.
I write sci-fi now. And faerietales.

My old writing was about talking animals and fantasy creatures (vampires, mutants, angels, werewolves, etc). I really liked the ideas I had but the writing and execution was horrible! I used to always gush to my friends that I loved writing and they should read my works! I'm so embarrassed that they read such scrappy writing.

    Yes!

I still have the very first fan fiction I ever wrote when I was eleven years old. It was a Dream Street story. Every time I come across it, I'm always like, what was I thinking? lol

It's horrible, but I will always keep it because it was my first one, ya know?

A lot of mines were god-awful Fuelled By Ramen fanfiction stories that had no sense, no plot and no grammar corrections made to them. I like to read through them when I think my current writings suck because hey, nineteen-year-old me with my obsession with all things war is never going to be as crappy as thirteen-year-old me with an incurable obsession over Brendon Urie and Hayley Williams. My old writings can basically be summed up in the very early chapters of Spin, which I rewrote a few months ago but of course I haven't reposted them. Facepalm I had a horrible understanding of the supernatural and I couldn't make anything consistent, and there was just so much badly-written fluff. My characters were so one-dimensional, and the setting hardly even played a part, despite the fact that the setting is the story. No matter how horrible it was, though, it was my starting point, and it's basically how I taught myself to write. XD (Well, with that and the horrible drafts I've gone through of Renny Boy and its sequels.)

I just found a book I had published through my school's young authors program in third grade. It was about a dog who had lost her family and a group of dogs found her a new one. I'm pretty sure it was a blatant rip off of pound puppies Facepalm But it was equipped with illustrations and everything.

To be honest, reading my old stuff made me wonder where my creation went. I used to be very interesting with my plots, no matter how cliche they were. Nowadays, it's about making my writing perfect, and the plots aren't as interesting to me as some of my old works had been. Although I think my first major story on Mibba (cleverly titled Can't You Help Me As I'm Starting to Burn? after an Avenged Sevenfold song) was way out of wack, and I can't believe that so many people found it a good read. I took it down from Mibba, which I'm really kind of bummed about because I didn't think to save all of the chapters before I had, but it was... well, something I wouldn't like to rewrite again. XD
