It Gets a Little Colder When You're Not Here

Roma stepped into the refreshment tent, the whole system was pretty self explanatory, you took a tray and went down the line and picked what you wanted from the food. "My older sister and her now husband had something like Bucky and Addy. It was only a couple of years ago that they realized they liked each other a lot and now they are married." Explained Roma as she picked up an apple (they were very lucky to get apples other day most camps didn't). Roma then picked up a plastic cup and poured some water into it, she wasn't feeling particular hunger but an apple would help her wake up a bit more.

"That maybe true but I helped." Bucky insisted as he watched Addy sort out his injuries. "After you have saved my leg can we go get some food?" Bucky was hungry and ready to eat anything, when they were taken by Hydra feeding those captive did not occur very often. Also he would ask Steve if he knew about any leave they should be getting from the army.

"Hardly..." Addy mumbled, a slight smirk tugging at the corners of her lips as she continued to sort out his injuries. "We certainly can." She figured that he mustn't have eaten anything since being held captive by Hydra. The thought of him being captured, and not knowing what could have easily happened to him, nearly sent chills down her spine. She shook those thoughts from her head rather quickly, she didn't want to think about that. It wasn't long after that that she finished bandaging his leg. "There, good as new." She smiled at him before putting away any supplies she had taken out during the process. "I'm ready whenever you are, Sarge."

Steve followed her over to the line, grabbing a tray for himself. He really hadn't realized just how hungry he was until he saw the food laid out there on the table. Normally, this stuff probably wouldn't have looked as appetizing as it did to him right now. In all honesty, he'd probably eat just about anything. "Well, hopefully those two will come to their senses soon enough too." He said. It was kind of funny how everyone seemed to see it except for them, but with how stubborn those two were, Steve knew that there was no reasoning with either of them. They just needed to figure it out for themselves. "That's all you're eating?" He asked, quirking a brow when he saw the cup of water and apple on her tray.

Roma glanced at her tray and then back at Steve. "Yeah, I had a decent breakfast earlier." Roma explained. Roma headed down the rest of the line and found that nothing took her fancy, instead of hovering and Roma thought it would be best to find some seats. "Steve, I am just going to find some seats." Roma announced. She then found a small table for four people near to the doors but with enough light and privacy.

Bucky glanced at his leg, it would be more on a nuisance than a pain while it healed. "Right then, let's make a move." Bucky swiveled himself to the left side of the bed and got up from it, standing on his leg it felt fine but Bucky once again couldn't help himself. "Nurse Addy, I might need some assistance walking, could you please help me?" It was partly truthful he wasn't sure how far he could walk. All of Bucky's playful teasing was just another to show Addy how much he missed her, like really missed. Being held captive gave him a lot of time to think about his life and Addy was something present in his thoughts will captive.

Addy shook her head, letting out a quiet laugh as she walked over to help him. She didn't know if he was just messing around, or if he was actual unsure as to whether or not he needed assistance walking. "See? This is why I call you a pain in the ass." She said lightly as she guided him towards the tent's exit. "You're definitely milking this one, Barnes. I can tell." She'd missed this. The playful banter. The constant teasing, back and fourth, back and fourth. She hadn't really realized how much she enjoyed it until she wasn't experiencing it daily anymore. It was proof that people actually do take things for granted.

Steve nodded wordlessly, continuing down the line. He supposed that made sense. If she'd eaten a decent breakfast that morning, she probably wouldn't be that hungry right now. It just made sense, and he doubted that she'd lie about whether or not she was hungry. That would definitely be a stupid thing to lie about. He didn't like lying in general, though he supposed that he could see why some people did lie from time to time, and he didn't condone it. "Alright, I'll meet you over there in a second." He put a few more things onto his tray before making his way over to the table, taking a seat next to her. Without even really thinking twice about being in the presence of a woman, he dug into his food. He couldn't help it, he was starving.

As Roma bit into her apple she glanced over at Steve and watch him dig into his food. It didn't bother her, she had seen many men do it when they returned to the camp. Instead of commenting Roma continued to eat her apple and drink her water in a comfortable silence. This gave her time to remind herself that she needed to go see if any post had arrived for her. Her mother sent a letter every week and last week her mother mentioned that Roma's brother, Warren had not replied to her most recent letter. Roma was not worried, her brother was stationed in France and seemed very busy so it was no wonder he had not gotten round to replying. "I would suppose that you and some of men will be getting leave soon?" Roma assumed they would be getting leave, it would be harsh if they sent the men back out after they had just returned from captivity.

Bucky leg could take some weight but not too much, he would need to be gentle with for the next few days. Bucky hobbled along with Addy towards the refreshment tent, he was starving and Bucky could not wait to pig out. "I've been meaning to ask, how long have you known Roma?" Asked Bucky. He was glad Addy had a friend of sorts, he was worried that when he found that Steve had been posted that Roma would be left alone as it had always been the three of them

Addy knew that his leg would be in much better shape in a couple of days, but if he wanted it to heal up faster, he was going to have to take it easy for a little while. "Not very long at all. Maybe a couple of weeks, if that." She told him as they reached the refreshment tent. She had only really met Roma this month. She was newer to this whole thing than Addy was, so Addy had sort of taken the brunette under her wing so to speak.

Feeling her gaze on him, Steve looked over to Roma, only then realizing how he was eating. "Sorry." He mumbled sheepishly, a slightly embarrassed expression crossing his face. "I, uh, didn't really realize just how hungry I was until a few minutes ago." He didn't know why he was explaining himself to her, almost like what he'd done was some sort of a crime, but he was. He took a sip of his water, shrugging his shoulders in response to her words. "I'm assuming so. I can't be too sure though."

After what Steve had done for 107th, he could eat however he wanted. The rescue of the men had helped moral in the camp, it was easy to notice by the smiles that graced people's faces.

Bucky nodded, it was understandable Addy did not know too much about Roma. As they entered the refreshment tent Bucky spotted Steve and Roma at a table. "Come let's get some food and then join them." Smiled Bucky as he made his way towards the food, hobbling every now and then. "

Addy smiled. "Lead the way, Sarge." She said, following him over towards the food. She noticed him hobble every once and a while, but she wasn't too worried. She'd already checked his leg over, and the injury wasn't a serious one. If he took it easy, though she wasn't sure if he would because she knew that he wasn't one to just sit around and do nothing, it would heal up rather quickly.

Steve smiled slightly at her words. "Alright." He said. He didn't know why he'd felt so obligated to apologize to her. He'd been eating, that was it, but he felt as though he should apologize for how he was eating. Especially in the presence of a beautiful dame like Roma. It was something that he'd noticed rather quickly, and it was probably why he'd gotten a bit tongue-tied earlier in the medical tent.

Roma noticed that Addy and Bucky had entered the tent. "I think Bucky and Addy have come to get some food." Mentioned Roma as she indicated to the two who were heading for the food. Roma assumed that she and Steve would wait for Addy and Bucky to join them and eat there food before they returned to the medical tent. Roma noticed Bucky slight limp, she was still amazed that Steve appeared unharmed. "Are you sure you are not injured?" asked Roma with a small smile, "From the state some of the soldiers were in, I thought even you would have a injury."

Bucky grabbed a tray and began to pile food onto his plate, he knew that the food itself was not exactly a taste sensation but Bucky was very much willing to over look that. When he felt his plate was full enough Bucky grabbed a cup of water and motioned to Addy that he was going to sit down, his leg was telling he had been standing for too long. "I'll meet you over there." Bucky reached Steve and Roma in a short amount of time and took the seat next to Steve, "So when we go on leave, how about a drink? I know a great place in London." Beamed Bucky.

Addy followed Bucky over to the food station, grabbing a tray and beginning to put a few things onto it. She wasn't too hungry, but she was hungry enough. She nodded in response to his words. "Alright." She sent a small smile his way, watching him walk off before she put a few more things onto her tray. She was so glad that he was alright. She'd definitely have to thank Steve for that later on. Once she'd put what she wanted onto her tray, she grabbed herself a cup of water and made her way over to where the others were sitting, and just in time to hear Bucky suggest getting a drink when he and Steve went on leave. "I'm not taking no for an answer, Rogers, so don't even try. If I have to get a drink with this jerk, so do you." She grinned.

Steve followed her gaze, noticing Addy and Bucky making their way into the tent. He saw how his friend appeared to have a slight limp. He was just glad that he was alright. He was sure he'd be fine in a couple of days. "Yeah, I'm positive." He assured her, sending a small smile her way. "But thank you for the concern." He added quickly. He was kind of surprised that he wasn't injured, though he seemed to handle injuries much better than he used to. "I guess I just got lucky." He shrugged his shoulders. He took a sip of his water before Bucky made his way over to the table with Addy not far behind him. "It doesn't look like I have much of a choice." He chuckled.

[Yeah I am completely up for that ]

"But I am your favorite jerk," teased Bucky as he sent a wink Addy's way. Despite his injuries and what Bucky had been through he was feeling much better in the short amount of time he had arrived at the camp than he had felt in a long while. "You should come Roma," added Bucky without a hesitation, Bucky was still trying to set Steve up with girls but that was Bucky all over, "Shouldn't she Steve?" Bucky gently nudged his friend, he knew Steve was too kindhearted to say that Roma couldn't go for a drink with them.

Roma smiled a little as she watched Bucky suggested a drink and there only seemed to be once answer to his suggestion. Roma finished off her apple and took another sip of her water to wash it down as Addy joined them at the table. It was then Roma was caught by surprise as Bucky invited her for the drink the three had planned, "I, um-" began Roma but her voice quickly disappeared as Bucky turned to Steve. Roma did not want to intruded on their reunion.

Addy scoffed. "Yeah, you keep telling yourself that." She said sarcastically. She was glad that they could easily return to the same playful banter that they always had. Sometimes it bordered on bickering, though it would be pretty strange if they didn't bicker and argue every once and a while. "As much as I hate to admit it, Bucky's right. You should come, Roma. It'll be fun." She glanced over to Steve, hoping that he'd back her and Bucky up on this one.

"They're both right. You should come." Steve offered her a small smile. He didn't think she'd be intruding or anything, and he wouldn't mind having some company either. He often felt like he was third-wheeling it whenever he went out with Bucky and Addy. Their relationship might have been "casual", but that didn't mean it was any less awkward for Steve to tag along with them. That's why he tried backing out on several different occasions, though his friends were both pretty damn persistent, and that usually didn't work out too well.

"Okay then, I'll come," smiled Roma, "As long as I am not intruding on anything." Roma was often on the shy side of things but when she got to know people she warmed to them and then she could your ear off. Before the war, Roma had a close knit of friends back home but with her posting she had yet to find time to write to them. It was nice that she was being invited for a drink, it made her feel less lonely, the war did that to most people.

"Well that's great then," beamed Bucky as he took another mouthful of food, his hunger was slowly subsiding, "We can try find a place to go dancing as well," added Bucky. In truth, Bucky was beyond excited to spend time doing 'normal stuff' it would stop him dwelling on what happened to him back in the hellhole they were. Bucky would never admit out loud that he was worried that he would be plagued with nightmares and he did not dare tell Addy she would only worry more. Drinking and dancing is what Bucky wanted and he was going to get it.

Addy grinned when Roma finally agreed to go for a drink with the three of them. She was certain that it would be a lot of fun, and now Steve couldn't complain about being some sort of a third-wheel or something like he had the tendency to do on occasion. "I'm sure there are plenty of those in London." She said, eating some of her food. She'd be extremely surprised if there wasn't. She was actually really looking forward to doing this. It would be a lot like how things used to be back home in New York, and she could honestly use a bit of normalcy in her life right about now.

"Good, I'll have someone to keep me company now while those two wander off." Steve said, chuckling slightly. "And don't say that you don't do that because I've gone out with you two on several different occasions, and it happens almost every single time." He wasn't annoyed with his friends or anything, he was glad that they seemed to enjoy themselves as much as they did when they went out, but he was speaking the truth. He really didn't mind at all if he was being completely honest. Bucky was always his happiest when he was with Addy, and he was glad that his friend had found someone like that. If only they'd come to their senses and realize that there really wasn't anything casual about their relationship.

"You're the one that doesn't want to join in with the fun," responded Bucky with a smile, "The amount times me and Addy have tired to get you up to dance you have been more than happy to sit in the corner, no wonder we go off on our own." Bucky was only joking but he had tired to get Steve to dance with other girls but back then Steve was a lot different and his height did seem to be a problem with a ladies, hopefully that would change now. Bucky took another spoonful of his food and this time he could really taste how bland it was. "This stuff is awful how do you live off it?" he asked as he took a sip of his water.

"You get use to it after awhile," laughed Roma. The food was far from tasty to say the least but when it was the only thing you had you bit the bullet and ate the stuff. Roma soon finished her water and it looked like she and Addy would have to head back to work soon, "Suggest you two rest up for a few hours, we are only half way through a shift," explained Roma, there was still plenty of men to attend to and they were going to need all the help they could get back in the medic tent.

"I can't believe I'm saying this for the second time in the less than five minutes, but Bucky's right, Steve. We do try to include you whenever we can, you just don't want to join in." Addy said, shrugging her shoulders. Of course, things were different back then. Whenever Bucky tried to set someone up with Steve, they always seemed to have a problem with his height. Addy felt bad. She didn't understand how none of them could see past his exterior and realize that he had a heart of gold. "Maybe he's embarrassed to be seen with us, Buck. Too good for us are ya, Rogers?" She teased lightly, letting out a quiet laugh.

Steve chuckled softly. "You caught me. That's definitely it." He joked. He knew that his friends were both right. They really did try to include him whenever they had the opportunity to do so. But none of the girls Bucky tried to set him up with ever really took a liking to him. Of course, none of them really tried to get to know him either. They were too busy paying attention to his scrawny appearance to actually get to know him. He glanced over to Roma when she spoke, nodding in response to her words. "Alright, well, we should probably let you ladies get back to work then." He didn't want to get either of them in trouble.

Bucky had underestimated how busy the bar would be, it appeared a few people were also on leave. Thankfully they were not staying here all night, the plan was after a few drinks they would be heading to the dance hall a few streets away. Bucky had yet to see Roma, he was somewhat worried that she had decided no longer to come but he hoped that wasn't the case. Bucky managed to pay for his and Addy's drinks before slowly making his way back to the table. As he made the journey back he saw Roma enter the bar, "We've been expecting, come on this, we are sat over here!" called out Bucky.

Roma knew she would be late as she jumped off the bus and made her way to the bar. She had just been to the hospital to see her brother, Warren. His platoon had been missing for a week or so and had taken several hits from the enemy when they turned up at their camp they were quickly sent to England. Warren was thankfully on the mend and would be going back to America to rest up some more. Roma soon found the bar and as she entered she nearly pumped to Bucky who quickly directed her to where they were sitting.

Addy couldn't believe how many people were in the bar right now. The thought that other people would also be on leave hadn't really crossed her mind. She didn't mind though. She, Steve and Bucky still managed to get themselves a table. Bucky had gone to get them both a drink. She smiled when she spotted him making his way back over, Roma in tow. "I was starting to think that you were going to leave me here with this two." She joked, getting to her feet to give her friend a hug. "How's your brother?" She asked, knowing Roma had gone to see him. She assumed that that was why she was late.

Steve was just as surprised as his two friends were that the bar was as crowded as it was. They all probably should've anticipated the possibility, but they really hadn't. It made no different though. He was already having a great time with his two friends. He really hadn't realized that he'd missed this sense of normalcy until now. It was nice just going out and spending time with his friends. He never really imagined that he'd ever be pleased with being dragged out for a drink by Bucky and Addy, but he supposed that there was a first time for everything. He smiled when he saw Bucky walking back over with Roma.

Roma was embraced by Addy after which she took the spare seat near Steve and let out a quick sigh of relief before tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Warren is good, he is on the mend," smiled Roma, "He will probably be going back home next week for a few weeks and then he will be posted somewhere." Roma glanced around the bar, it was awfully crowded, "It seems everyone has taken leave then?" she laughed a little as she took off her coat. It was somewhat weird being surrounded by people who appeared to be happy and enjoying life. It seemed like the war did not exist at times like this.

Bucky placed the drinks down and then took his seat, "It is packed in here," added Bucky as he took a sip of his drink. Bucky then glanced around the table and swore, "Damn, I didn't get you a drink Roma, I wasn't sure how long you were going to be, sorry." Bucky apologized but Roma shook her head and said it was fine, she would go to the bar in her own time. Bucky then moved his seat closer to Addy and draped his arm across the back of her chair, "So are we ready for a fun night my friends?" he asked with a grin on his face.
