A Soldier's Heart

Steve looked down at the phone number again and sighed when he heard Tony tease him. "Call the girl already," Tony said but Steve shook his head. "It's only been a couple of hours,' he said as he ran his fingers through his hair. He didn't want to seem like that guy, desperate. Sighing again, he hated himself. When had talking to a girl become so complicated before he chuckled, yep it had always been complicated. At least that hadn't changed in 60 years. He glanced at this phone and then at the number again.

Sam laughed as she began to make them some food. "You are quite the charmer, if only what you said was true," she said before walking out. She balanced two glasses of water and two sandwiches in her hands as she knelt down. Handing him his food, she moved and occupied a seat across from him. "So are you going to start talking and telling me what happened or am I going to have to wait until the Capt knocks down my door?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

Ella walked into her apartment and set her food on the table before going to her bedroom and changing into something more comfortable. She walked back to the kitchen and sat down serving herself some food and took a seat and began to eat. She wondered if Steve would call her, Ella shouldn't be thinking about it. She' just met the man.

Bucky chuckled "well thanks, I try to be though it has been awhile since I've tried charming a beautiful lady." He took the food that Sam handed him and smiled "thanks.." Bucky looked at Sam after chewing his food and swallowing, "It's a long story that involves me being manipulated you sure you want to hear it?"

Steve finally gave in, much to Tony's amusement, and he dialed the number. Pushing himself up, he quickly walked out of the room. Passing along the hallways, he tried to keep the nervous energy under control. This was ridiculous, she was just a person. He didn't need to be so anxious, he told himself as he waited.

Sam began to eat and blushed and rolled her eyes. "Stop complimenting me," she said before glancing at him. "I have a week off from work to get over whatever you are going to tell me so start talking," she said as she leaned back and waited to hear a story that she knew was going to make her sick to her stomach.

Ella was sitting down and eating her food thinking about Steve. Once she finished she looked up hearing her phone ring and sighed softly. Grabbing her phone she looked at the unknown number and picked up. "Hello?" She asked softly.

Bucky chuckled "I can't help it, if I see a beautiful woman I let her know what I think." Bucky raised an eyebrow as he watched Sam speak about her time off and how and what she wanted to know about him. "What makes you think I'll tell you anything we don't know each other.."

Steve sucked in a breath when he heard her answer and he ran his fingers through his hair. "Um..hi Ella? This is Steve.....the guy from earlier," he clarified much to Tony's delight and Steve scowled at him before escaping into another room. "I hope it wasn't too soon to call," he said with an uneasy chuckle. He really had no idea what to do.

Sam watched him for a moment with a raised eyebrow. "Well, considering you are in my house, eating my food and my hands were covered in your blood, I'm pretty sure we have passed the whole not knowing each other part," she said. "You were about to tell me so why not continue?" she asked as she continued to eat and watch him at the same time.

Ella started cleaning up as she talked to Steve on her phone, "hey, yes I remember your handsome self how could I forget" she grinned. As Ella finished cleaning up she answered his question "I don't think it's too early. How are you doing?"

Bucky sighed softly "we don't really all you know about me is that I'm a killer or that I was one." He finished up the food "and yeah I understand I suppose I owe you some kind of explanation but I don't think you'll like what you hear it's very tragic and violent..."

Steve smiled gently at her reassurance. "I'm fine. How about yourself?" he asked as he continued to pace the hallway although his nerves were slowly calming down. "I was wondering if maybe sometime, you would like to go get coffee or something....with me?" he asked as he tried to stay calm again.

Sam watched him for a moment before she shrugged. "I'm not going to make you tell me so it is truly up to you but don't hold it in too long. No one should carry a burden alone," she said gently as she touched his shoulder gently and brought their plates into the kitchen.

As Ella finished cleaning up she answered "I'm doing all right just cleaning buo." Whe walked over to the living room and took a seat. Ella smiled brightly "I would really like that, when would you want to meet?" Ella hadn't gone on a date in quite sometime she had been busy with her work. Steve seemed like a nice man so she waa willing to give him a chance.

Bucky sighed softly he wasn't too sure if he should tell her anything. It wasn't that he didn't trust Sam. Bucky didn't want ti put her in any danger. "Okay well, you might want to suit down it's realty a long atirt." He felt like he could trust Sam.

Stave smiled at the excitement in her voice. "Would tomorrow be pushing it? I mean, my job is unpredictable so I like to try and get things I want to do in as quickly as possible. When the world is at peace for at least a little while," he said jokingly.

Sam put the dishes in the sink before walking back out. Watching him for a moment, she sank down and sat on the couch. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I am not going to force you to do anything," she said to him as she watched him. She bit her lip gently as she relaxed and got ready to hear what couldn't be a good story.

Ella giggled as she listened "yes of course I understand and tomorrow is perfect I have no plans." She got up and looked through her wardrobe looking for something to wear. "What time and place would you want to meet?"

Bucky sighed running a hand through his hair "I know but if you really want to know me better I have to tell you. "I wasn't always this quiet or reserved to be honest I used to go out quite a lot and flirt wiyhe every pretty girl.. I enlisted and really thats when everything changed-" Bucky continued to takk about the war and how he got captured by some Germans who decided to experiment in him. It was awful everything he did for Hydra in the name of "peace".

Steve thought for a moment. "Um....I don't really know that many places but seeing as you are new, I won't make you choose," he teased before he ran his fingers through his hair. "On fifth avenue, there is a coffee shop called it's a grind," he said. "We could go there at 9?"

Sam bit her lip when he finished his story and she walked over to him. She touched his shoulder gently before kneeling down in front of him. Looking at him, she smiled gently. "It's not your fault. You aren't responsible for anything you did under hydra," she whispered as she reached up and cupped his cheek gently.

Ella laughed "well that's very kind of you" she was looking through her clothes and finally picked something out. Ella bit her lip as she looked through her collection of shoes. "Sure that's fine, having a good day" Ella placed her ear buds on and mic so she could still talk and be able to work in the dark room.

Definitely been a hard couple of months and he just wanted for this nightmare to be over. He still hasn't seen Steve since the incident in DC. "thanks for understanding or trying others would just look at me weird"

Steve smiled gently at the phone and nodded slightly even though she couldn't see him. "Well, my day has been fine so far. What about you?" he asked as he continued to pace along the hallway. He was still tense although, now, he was slowly and surely relaxing and enjoying the conversation. She seemed really cool, he thought to himself as he smiled gently.

Sam looked up at him, watching him for a moment before nodding slightly. "It is the least I can do," she whispered softly as she continued to look at him. Finally, she had to look away and she bit her lip lightly. "So...how do you feel about a bath and a hair cut?" she asked as she smiled at him for a moment. "It might make you feel better," she said gently.

Ella smiled hearing Steve start talking about his day "that's good I'm doing okay just relaxing it's been a long day." Ella quickly finished eating and cleaned up. "Im really happy you decided to call.. I though you might think I'm crazy" ahe chuckled. Ella walked over to the living room and took a seat sighing softly.

Bucky smiled softly at Sam "you're really sweet thank you for all your hospitality I realy do appreciate it." Bucky watched as Sam continued to talk. Bucky hadn't expected to run into someone so kind. "Actually that sounds wonderful if you don't mind I think I will.." he had to figure this out. "I don't have any clean clothes on me that might be a dilemma"

Steve smiled softly at her words and shook his head. "No, I didn't think you were crazy," he said with a chuckle. "I thought you were a very pretty girl who needed some help," he said. "And I was very happy to offer it," he said as he ran his fingers through his hair and leaned against the wall again.

Sam thought for a moment. "Well, an ex of mine left some of his clothes here. They won't totally fir you but they will work until I can get your cleaned up," she said as she moved to help him stand up. "So from this spot, how many ways can you think of to kill me?" she asked curiously as she watched him.

Ella smiled as she listened to Steve and nodded every once in a while "well thank you" she said blushing at his comment. "For stopping to talk to me and that compliment," Ella sat on her bed biting her lip "so what are you up to?"

Bucky nodded as he listened to Sam speak "all right thank you" he nodded. Bucky was standing with his arms crossed when Sam asked him a rather morbid question. "Uh.. Why do you ask?" Wht would Bucky think about that?

Steve thought for a moment before smiling gently. "Well, you are very welcome and I am not doing anything really interesting," he said with a shrug. He ran his fingers through his hair lightly. "What about you?" he asked curiously.

Sam looked at him and shrugged. "I figure that a trained assassin especially one in your situation, that you would probably be in a state of mind where everyone was a threat. People have yet to prove that you can trust them so I figure might as well air it out," she said.
