Count All the Stars

Savannah was just the daughter to a blacksmith, not thinking anything particularly special would happen in her life but she was okay with that. She was okay living the life of a normal peasant girl who helped her mother the best that she could, trying to learn everything that she would need to know to be a good wife some day. She hadn't even flinched when news reached their household that she needed to participate in the King's picking of a bride as she was nothing special. She supposed she was pretty but nothing that would stand out amongst a crowd of young girls just like herself.

So when the day came, she put on her nicest dress - one that she had sewn with her mother years ago. It was nothing special, just a pale blue with a few ruffles at the end of the sleeves. She made her way on foot to the towns' square, where she was to wait with the other girls from the area to be escorted into the castle by the kings' knights.

Once they were inside of the castle, Savannah suddenly became nervous as she looked around at the stone work and the paintings, wondering what it could possibly be like to live in such a large house. People couldn't possibly use every room in the building!

Zacky walked to the top of the stairs and looked down at the girls that were lined up in the room. He didn't understand why he need a girl to help him rule, but it was a tradition and he couldn't just not do it. Zacky smiled when he looked at the girls in front of him. He sat down in his chair as he waited for the girls to introduce themselves. When it got to the girl named Savannah he held his hand up, "Wait." He said before she went to walk away. "Tell me something more about yourself." He said with a smile. She was breathtaking and seemed like a really nice person.

Savannah stopped in her tracks, feeling her heart nearly stop, her face paling as she looked up to the girl beside her with wide eyes. She had already turned and started to take a step, only for everything to stop as the king spoke. She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat, trying to figure out what to say as she turned back to face him. "I sewed my dress," she said, unsure of what she could possibly say whether it would make him more interested in her or not. Her fear was more or less evident - part because she had never seen a member of royalty up close and partly because Zack wasn't exactly human either.

Zacky smirked and stood up, walking over to her. "Tell me something about yourself...Savannah."He said as he pushed the hair away from her neck. He could hear her heart pounding and the blood pumping through her veins. "What do you like to do in your free time?" He asked as he stood closely to her. He knew she was nervous, but only she had stood out to him. "Or tell me about your family." He added.

Savannah's breath hitched as he neared her, biting down on the inside of her lip. Her heart was pounding as he moved closer to her, flinching the slightest bit as he moved her hair out of her face. She was clutching her dress in her hands, knuckles turning white as she concentrated on trying not to shake. "I like to help Papa with the horses," she murmured, her stomach in knots as she stared down at her feet, trying to ignore just how close they were.

Zacky smiled, "Is that all?" He asked. He was sure that she did more than that, but she seemed very shy. Zacky stepped back from her, "The rest of you can leave." He yelled. He touch Savannah's arm, "Just not you." He whispered. He smirked, "If you like horses i have some that you might find interesting. Come." He said, offering her his hand. He took her hand, leading her out of the castle. He stepped into the stable, flipping the lights on, "Go on and have a look." He told her.

Savannah nodded the slightest bit, unsure of how she would sound if she chose to speak so she chose to be silent instead. She jumped when he yelled, chewing on her lip as she hoped she could somehow give him a reason not to marry her. Taking his hand the moment it was offered, she didn't particularly want to find out what would happen if she didn't just smile and obey. He was the king, after all. Following him out to the stables, Savannah was still incredibly nervous but she felt a bit more at home around the horses. She hesitated and took a few steps forward, glancing back to him in wonder of whether she was doing what pleased him. Peering into the first few stalls, her eyes widened by the third one. "She's gorgeous," she mumbled more to herself than anything, reaching a hand out to pet the mare standing in the stall.

Zacky walked up behind her, "Her name is Kiara." He said as he looked at SAvannah. "She is mine." He said as he ran his fingers over the horse. Zacky was glad that she seemed more relaxed, "Do you want to go for a ride?"He asked her. He figured she would like that too and it would get him away from all the guards. He hated that they constantly followed him. He was sure that he was stronger than any of them anyway. Zacky looked back at the guards who were staring at him.

She froze at the offer, shrugging her shoulders after a moment. Savannah was hardly in the right riding outfit but she wasn't going to say that - she wasn't going to turn him down. "It's up to you, my lord," she murmured, her eyes downcast now. While she was hesitant to go because she was wearing a dress, the idea was still quite a bit thrilling and she wasn't going to argue if he still wanted to go.

Zacky smiled, "I can get you different clothes if you would like." He said. He knew that it was foolish to expect a woman to ride in a dress. "Why don't you go with one of the guards and get dressed. I will get the horses ready." He said. He watched as one of the men led her to the castle. He sighed as he got the horse out, watching as the stable boy began to get the horses ready.

Savannah opened her mouth to say that it wasn't necessary, that she was fine the way she was. She didn't want to cause a burden for such a man. She nodded, wordlessly, as she turned to follow the guard who had stepped up to help her. Returning a few minutes later, she wore a quite large shirt (that could almost pass as a dress itself), but a pair o f pants was underneath it. Walking to the stall he was near, her head was lowered as she clung to the dress that she had formerly been wearing, unsure of what ot do with it, or what he wanted of her.

Zacky smiled, "James take the lady's dress please." He ordered. He offered her his hand, "Come here." He said. He took her hand then led her to her horse. He smiled as he watched her mount the horse. Zacky mounted his horse then started off slowly so that she could keep up with him. Zacky knew that it would be tough to control himself about her alone, but he was trying.

Savannah quickly turned to offer her dress to the knight, quiet as she moved with the other. Her head was lowered, chewing on her lip. Her heart was pounding as she moved to the horse and easily moved to mount the horse. Leading the horse after Zacky, she started to relax a bit more. Albeit, the chances of her fully relaxing were slim but at least she was acting a bit more naturally.

Zacky road with her until they were outside of the castle walls and near the lake. "Hope you don't mind us taking a break here." He said as he slid off of his horse. He tied his horse up, then watched her carefully for his moment. It only seemed right that he use her because she would be his soon.

Savannah quickly dismounted, tying her horse's lead to a tree limb. Her head was lowered as she moved toward the lake, expecting that he wanted to sit and get to know her. It only seemed like the logical thing to do, after all they hadn't said more than few words the entire horse ride.

Zacky looked over at her, inhaling the smell of her blood. He moved behind her, moving the hair from her neck. "Tell me about yourself darling." He said. His eyes going red from the hunger he was feeling. He listened to her talk for a moment and moved her head slightly. Zacky bit into her neck, putting his hand over her mouth to quiet her screams. He groaned as he drank from her.

Savannah's stomach was twisted into a knot and as she felt the hair raise on her arms as he moved behind her, she shrugged at his question. She didn't know how to answer him. She was just a low person on the totem pole. "There's not much to tell, my lord," she answered, shivering as he moved her head to the side. It wasn't until his lips were at her neck that she realised was happening, her mouth opening to let out a scream as his fangs sunk into her neck. She struggled for a moment, her eyes wide as she tried to get away from him.

Zacky held her tightly against his body so that she couldn't move. He drank from her enough to not kill her. He pulled away from her, "Don't fight me." He said. He bit into his wrist, "Here drink." He said offering her his arm. "It won't turn you it will just make you feel better." He said.

Savannah shuddered as he pulled away from her, her eyes going wide at the suggestion as his wrist came into view. She shook her head, her mouth clamped shut as she tried to press herself away from his wrist which only meant she was pressing closer to him.
