Waiting for Superman

Bucky knew that he hadn't been open with Annie about who he was and he knew it would have to wait. "What was your grandfather's name?" He asked, wondering if he might have known Steve too. Bucky wanted to know more about Annie though, "If my arm around a you bothers you, I'll put it down if you want." She didn't seem to mind so he left his arm over her shoulder. "I promise I don't bite" Bucky chuckled.

Iris pushed some of curls out of her face as she waited for Steve to arrive. She fixed her dressed as she waited nervously, not sure why she was nervous Iris has been on a few dates in the past year. None of them worked out but still, she hadn't been nervous then. She smiled when she noticed Steve walking over. "Hey, it's all right I've been here for five minutes, no big deal. I hope I'm not over dressed for coffee" she chuckled. Walking over and taking a look at the menu. "How do you like your coffee?"

"Timothy Dugan." Annie told him. Yep, her grandfather was one of the Howling Commandos. He used to tell her, her sister and their two brothers all of these amazing stories when they were kids about the missions and adventures he went on with Captain America and the other Commandos. It had inspired her brothers to join the army themselves. "I would have said something if it bothered me." She sent a small smile his way. "Well, that's a relief." She laughed quietly.

Steve smiled. "You look great." He told her honestly. She was absolutely stunning. He was honestly really glad that he'd asked her to get coffee with him. He knew that he'd never truly not be busy, but he had to make time for people if he wanted them in his life. And he also sort of wanted to get Natasha and Sam off his back too, though that was only part of it. "Black." He said simply. "I know, kind of boring." He chuckled slightly.

Bucky looked at Annie and nodded she had his eyes for sure, he couldn't believe she was related to anyone of the Howling Commandos. Bucky pulled Annie closer to him as they walked. "What you think I'd hurt a pretty gal like yourself? Not in a million years" he grinned. Bucky hadn't known Annie not even a week and already he seemed to be fond of her, quite a bit actually.

Iris smiled, "good, I tried wearing my most casual dress" she chuckled. She was glad she had ran into him again. It was nice going on a date, Iris never had time for dates but she would make time for Steve. He was a genuine person and sweet. Iris nodded "black is great for when I want to wake up, usually I'll have mine a cream and a sugar. I don't like it too strong" once they were next in line Iris spoke up. "I'll have a vanilla latte and that Reese's cookie" she looked over at Steve who was pulling his wallet. "What about you?"

Annie let out a quiet laugh. "I never said that. Don't you go putting words in my mouth now." She said, a smile on her face. She liked being around Bucky. She knew that they'd only just met a day earlier, but she just felt comfortable around him. She liked how easy it was for her to laugh when she was with him. She saw that as a really good sign and, in all honesty, she knew that she was starting to like him. A lot. The amount of time that they'd known each other didn't even matter to her right now. It was almost like there was some sort of a connection between them or something.

Steve chuckled slightly. "Well, like I said, you look great. I wouldn't lie to you about that either." He said, sending a genuine smile her way. He was really glad that he'd ran into her yesterday. He probably would have kept on making excuses about not calling her if he hadn't. And he was glad that the excuses had finally stopped. "Just a black coffee for me." He said, pulling out his wallet to pay for both of their orders. There was no way that he was letting her pay.

Bucky grinned, "I never did such a thing, how could you accuse me of such a thing." Bucky couldn't pin point why he felt so at ease with Annie, something about her just drew him in and he was glad. He knew that she woud ask about his hand sooner or later and that he would have to explain everything to her and he would but for now he wasn't worried about it. As they walked around the memorial Bucky looked over at her and smiled, "so how about we get food after this? And talk more about you?" He asked.

Iris smilef softly, "well, thank you. I know, something in my gut tells me you're not the lying type." His smile was contagious it was also one that made her heart beat so fast she could hear it. No guy ever had that effect on her and it was almost foreign to her. Iris watched him pay for her order as well, "you know, I would have stopped you but something tells me you would just keep insisting, thank you"

Annie laughed. "You totally just did!" She exclaimed, a smile on her face. She really didn't know why she felt so comfortable around Bucky. She honestly hadn't really given it much thought either. She just knew that she did and, for right now, that was all that really mattered to her. She nodded in response to his later words. "Alright, yeah, though I hope I don't bore you when we talk about me some more. I'm not the most exciting person." She laughed once more.

Steve smiled. "I'm glad." He said. He payed for their drinks and her cookie before walking to the other end of the counter to wait for their drinks to come up. "Well, you thought right. I definitely wouldn't have let you pay and I would have constantly insisted until you agreed." He told her, chuckling slightly. It was just how he'd been raised. He wasn't about to let her pay for her drink when he'd asked her to get coffee with him. It just wasn't right.

Bucky chuckled, "well, I'm sorry if I did how should I make it up to you?" He was having a good time with Annie. He was really glad that he had started talking to her the previous day. "I won't be bored, you are really cute and have this great laugh, how could that possibly bore me?" He asked with a grin. Bucky hoped he wasn't coming off as weird, though she had mentioned he wasn't. "What would you say your favorite place in the district hm?"

Iris grinned as she took her drink and cookie, "well, I could have kept arguing with you but that would get us nowhere" she chuckled. Iris took a seat on a table in the far corner, "I've had guys pay for my meals or coffee but they always expect something from me. So I stopped letting any guy pay for me. Except you, I just know you're not like any man I've ever met. You're much better then them" she grinned.

"I'm sure you can think of something." Annie said, a slight grin tugging at the corners of her lips. She was really glad that he'd asked her to show him around the district today. She was having a great time so far. "Telling me I'm cute and that I have a great laugh? You're laying it on a little thick, don't you think?" She let out a quiet laugh. She thought that what he'd said was sweet though, really sweet actually. "Just in general?"

Steve chuckled softly. "You're right, it definitely wouldn't have gotten us anywhere." He said, following her over to the table. "I'm glad that you don't think that I'm like that." He smiled, taking a seat across from her. He didn't understand guys who were like that. Just doing nice things for women so that they could get something out of it. That wasn't how he'd been raised at all.

Bucky chuckled, "well, how about I take you out on a date? Anywhere you'd like" he wasn't sure of what he was doing now was a date or not. Seemed like Annie was just showing him around, either way he was enjoying himself. Bucky couldn't help but smile at her remarks, "I am a very charming man, also, I'm speaking the truth you are a stunning gal and I feel like I should let you know." Bucky nodded "yes, other than that cafe?" He teased.

Iris nodded, "your reputation follows you and from what I've witness you certainly live up to it." She sipped on her latte before looking at Steve, she just loved his eyes they were amazing. "Tell me about yourself, something that not everyone knows, what do you like to do? What makes you happy? I know so many questions. I'm worse than a reporter" she giggled.

"Well, if you insist." Annie said, a slight grin tugging at the corners of her lips. She wasn't really sure if what they were doing now was a date but, either way, she wouldn't mind going out somewhere on an official date with Bucky. He seemed like a nice guy, and she got on really well with him, so why not? "I can see that, and thank you." She really thought that what he said to her was sweet. Like really sweet actually. "Haha, very funny." She said sarcastically. She thought for a moment before speaking again. "Rock Creek Parkway. It's a nice place to go for walks and there's this really gorgeous stone bridge that goes over the creek. I go there just to think and clear my head sometimes."

Steve smiled. "Well, I'm glad that you think so." He said, taking a sip of his coffee. "Something that not everyone knows, huh?" He thought about it for a moment, wondering what he should tell her. "I like to draw." He finally said after a few moments had passed. "I don't really think very many people know that about me." The only ones he could think of who knew that were Peggy and Bucky.

Bucky chuckled, "you can say no to me if you want, I won't make you go on a date with me if you don't want to." Bucky wasn't the type to pressure a woman about dating him. He didn't like how men treated women today, he's had to intervene a couple of times to stop men from doing stupid things. "Oh? Well, maybe you should show me sometime," he grinned. Bucky stopped and looked at the memorial and smiled thinking about the 40s.

Iris smiled nodding every once in awhile, "really? That's cool, I wish I could draw, I mean I can decorate really cool cakes though so that's kind of artsy?" Iris chickled as she sipped her coffee, "I take good pictures but I don't think that's art. Do you? " Iris bit into her cookie and looked up, "I was thinking maybe we can go for a stroll around the park?"

Annie smiled. "If I was planning on saying no, I would've said no already." She told him. And she really meant that too. She wasn't agreeing to go on a date with him just because he'd asked her, she was doing so because she wanted to. "Maybe I will." She shrugged her shoulders, a slight grin tugging at the corners of her lips. "Depends on whether or not I like you enough to do so." She laughed quietly.

Steve chuckled slightly. "Yes, that's kind of artsy." He said, a small smile on his face. He took another sip of his coffee. "Nah, I only really draw. I went to art school for a year or so, but then the war happened, and I never really went back." Of course, he had been frozen somewhere in the Arctic for nearly seventy years, so that could have something to do with it too. "We could do that." He nodded.

Bucky noddef, "I guess that's true, you seem like a woman who speaks her mind, and who doesn't take anyone's crap." Bucky let out another laugh "I suppose I have a prickly personality, not the most handsome person out there either" Bucky sighed softly as they continued walking, Annie was so tiny and iy was cute. "Tell me, do you think im strange?"

Iris nodded, she stared into his eyes admiring the way he smiled, "that sounds awesome. I'm not that creative. So your friend, has she always tried to set you up on dates?" Iris bit down on her cookie and looked up. "You know the last date this guy just stared at the waitress the whole time and he just.. irritated me. So I dumped my drink on his head and left. I know that was so random i figured I'd share something about me"

Annie laughed. "That I am." She said. "Though I'm kind of surprised that you picked up on that already." They hadn't even known each other very long, and yet he seemed to know her so well already. She was kind of just really surprised. "A prickly personality? That's a new one." She laughed. "Oh yeah, you're so right. I'm seen way better." Her tone was light and teasing. "No, should I?" She punctuated her words with a raised eyebrow.

"Not always, but she has been trying to do so for quite a while now." Steve told her, sipping his coffee. "And she got Sam in on it too. Both of them can be really relentless sometimes." He chuckled softly, shaking his head slightly. "It is random, but I think you've heard enough about me anyway, I'm really not that interesting. Tell me more about you." He smiled.

Bucky smiled softly "well, Im good at reading people, I also feel like you're the adventurous type am I wrong?" Bucky has only known Annie for a couple of days and he felt like he could trust her. He enjoyed spending time with her and he hoped she enjoyed his company. "So tell me more about yourself miss," he grinned.

Iris nodded,"they just want you
to be happy, I promise I'm not crazy" she laughed. Iris pushed a strand of hair out of her face, "well, there's so much I could say. I have a bakery and It's just my dad, sister and myself. I know Im just rambling, and no you're not boring, I think you're interesting and if it's not too bold to say, really cute"

"You could say that." Annie said, a small smile gracing her lips. He really was good at reading people, or so it seemed anyway. "You want me to tell you more about myself? I thought you were good at reading people." Her tone was light and teasing. She didn't mind telling him more about herself, though she didn't usually like talking about herself very much. "What would you like to know?"

Steve chuckled slightly. "I never said that you were." He pointed out, taking a sip of his coffee. He listened as she talked, smiling as he did so. She was rambling, but it was actually kind of cute. "Well, I'm glad that you think I'm interesting, and cute too, huh?" He chuckled slightly. "Is your sister older or younger?" He asked curiously. He wanted to get to know her better, and so far that was exactly what he was getting out of this date.

Bucky laughed, "okay, let me take a guess, you love books, you enjoy look walks on the beach, piña coladas and dancing in the rain" he smirked. He was only teasing of course but he picked up on her sense of humor awhile ago. "You can tell me whatever you wanted to tell me, like for instance I like the color blue and I'm 6'3 tall and handsome" he said while winking at Annie. Bucky smiled, "I'm thirsty is there a shop around here I need a water or something"

Iris grinned "I look it though right?" Her cheeks grew pink and nodded, "yeah, I do. I just figured I'd let you know." Iris smiled at Steve "she's a couple of years older than me, her name is Nina, she really likes Sam except she's too chicken to call him back" she chuckled. "Let's see, my birthday is July 2nd, I love the color purple and I like shoes" she chuckled.

"You already know that I love books! I told you that yesterday, that's cheating!" Annie said, letting out a quiet laugh. "And is that really the best you could come up with? I thought you were good at reading people." She knew that he was only joking though. She let out another laugh in response to his later words, shaking her head slightly. "There should be one not too far from here."

Steve chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Nah, I don't think so." He told her, a smile on his face. "Well, if we're just putting things out there, I think you're really pretty. One of the prettiest dames I've ever seen." He grinned. "I'm surprised that Sam doesn't just bombard her with calls or something. He seems like the persistent type." He chuckled softly. "I'll have to get on him about that."

Bucky laughed, "I knew that before I went to talk to you, your nose was stuck in that book pretty deep" he was only teasing. "To answer your question yes, that's the best I could come up with, I'm not the most creative person out there but I do try." Bucky grabbed his wallet, "did you want something?" He would buy it for Annie. He wouldn't let her pay of course he grew up in a time where men would always be respectful towards women. Of course that changed over time and something's hadn't changed.

Iris face grew pink as he complimented her beauty, it was really one of the sweetest things a man has ever said to her. "That's really sweet, thank you" she finished off her latte and smiled. Iris giggled, "right? You'd think he would because she's not going to. Though I do point out that he always asks about her.. We'll see how that goes" Iris placed some lose strands of curls behind her ear, feeling a little shy now. "how do you like DC so far?"

Annie let out a quiet laugh. "Alright, I guess you have a point there..." She admitted. She had no reason to argue with him. She knew that he was right, regardless of whether or not he was teasing her. "Well, it wasn't too bad considering." She smiled. "Yeah, I think I'll have a coke." Something told her that he wasn't going to let her pay for her drink. He just seemed like a real gentleman.

"You're welcome." Steve said, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I'll start dropping some hints. Maybe he'll make the first move if I do." He was surprised that Sam hadn't asked her sister out. He'd noticed how his friend brought up her sister quite frequently, so it honestly came as a slight shock. "It's not so bad." He said, sipping his coffee. "A little different from New York, but a city is a city." He shrugged his shoulders.
