Josh
Josh liked to think that what he was doing was okay.
He was giving a shy, lovely little boy what he wanted – company. Zayn was lonely and quiet and Josh was more than happy to pull him out of the shell he had curled himself into. He was always proud when he got Zayn to go out, always smiling when Zayn was. He liked to think that what they had was nice, was kind, was innocent.
But something inside him wanted to corrupt it.
He would hear it nag at him whenever he met up with Zayn. Sometimes they would pipe up whenever he was just thinking about the Brit, hissing and telling him to ruin whatever Zayn had, rip it out and tear it apart. It scared Josh, really, but what could he do? Tell someone he had something picking at his head and telling him to all but destroy his best — and potentially only — friend? No. Absolutely not. He'd be carted away in minutes.
He tapped on Zayn's window, balancing horridly on a branch that was simply too small. He knocked and knocked and nearly fell when Zayn pushed the window open.
"Hey," he said, smiling softly. He stepped back, allowing Josh to tumble in before he fell to the ground and shattered. "What're you doin' here?"
Josh stared at the absolute gorgeous being that was his wonderful friend Zayn for what was probably too long before returning to reality. He grinned, getting comfortable on the carpet. "Nothing," he replied with a sing-song tone. "Just wanted to see my bro-pal. What're you up to?"
Zayn gestured to the book on his nightstand and the sketchpad near his pillow. "Nothin' but the ordinary."
Josh liked the ordinary. The ordinary was nice when the taunting in his head had chosen to stay away for the day.
