Forever Changed

He stopped pulling back and turning to look out the window, he cursed, "Thats not good," he murmured softly as he furrowed his brown then moved to adjust his clothing.

She held onto his arm then furrowed her brow, "That looks neclear," she whispered and just like that a gust of air hit the building causing it to shake and glass to break.

She pulled on a shirt and looked at him. "Wait is it safe to go outside?" She asked, ducking down as the glass window shattered.

He nodded a little. "The local hospital is small, they're going to need help. Arent you and your friend doctors? Animals too. There are a lot of farms nearby."

She nodded a little and moved off the surface then began to pull her clothes on quickly then pulled her hair into a bun, "Can you give me a lift?"

"I should probably go see whats going on, you should come with me, things might get crazy around here," he said to her softly.

She nodded and pulled on some jeans and a flannel. "Okay, lets go." She said softly, grabbing her phone. "I need to check on my friend. Also, I'm a qualified doctor, if anyone needs help at the hospital, I'd be happy to help."

He nodded and pulled on his clothes, grabbing his keys. "I wonder what happened." He said to himself, walking over toward the door.

She pulled her hair up into a bun then walked outside sheilding her eyes from the bright light and looked around for people who might need help, "Seems quiet - almost too quiet," she murmured softly.

He nodded as he fixed his clothes then walked out of the room with her hand in his, "Come on, I'm sure we can find her easy enough,"

He set his hand on the small of her back, just in case another explosion went off and he needed to pull her out of the way. "That's crazy, a boom that big... and from nowhere?" He said to her, leading her to his truck. "Come on, we can drive through, check who needs help."

She held his hand and followed him down to the police cruiser. "Your radio has been silent, is that normal?" She asked softly, climbing in and pulling the seatbelt on. "I'm going to need supplies too, if there are any issues and some people need first aid."

She climbed into his car and shut the door, "Thats.. thats a mushroom cloud; thats nuclear," she said with wide eyes, "do you know if you guys have rad counters? My dad was so set on me bringing one with me and I didn't; he is a bit of a freak," she said softly, "but he was right, I would need it, once it rains the first time we should be fine but until then we need to get people in a secure area," she told him honestly as she looked at him. To say she was concerned was an understatement, "Iodine will be very useful as well, it can counteract small exposure to radiation," having learned some of this in school was more useful than she imagined.

He shook his head,"No, it's not normal, must have messed with the radio signals," he said to her as he turned through the frequencies. "Alright, I'll run you by the clinic to get you a bag they're going to need all the help they can get, see if your cellphone will work,"

She pulled out her cellphone and tried to make a call, but there was no sound. "It's not ringing, and it keeps saying call failure." She murmured, setting it to the side. "I wonder whats going on, like we cant be completely left in the dark."

He nodded as he drove, looking around as people came out of their homes. "Wonder what's going on, no one seems to have power."
