  • Silas walked into the school with his hood up and sighed as he made his way through the crowded hallway. He had taken a few days off school when he found out how sick he really was. He couldn't let people know about him though. He didn't want the pity or the "I'm sorry your dying" sympathy looks. This mother had begged him to stay home a few more days but that would just let people know there was something wrong. He went to his locker, grabbing his books. Til today the school knew him as the most popular guy in school. He was a basketball star and an okay student. Though he had his moments when he could be a jerk. Silas groaned when he heard his girlfriends voice saying his name behind him. He closed his locker and rested his forehead against it. He looked out of the corner of his eye at the girl and her friends beside him. He was pretty sure her name was Imogen. He turned around towards his girlfriend, "HEy." He muttered, avoiding her hug. He stepped pass her then walked with her down the hallway. Silas sighed as he pulled her into the gym. Silas bit his bottom lip lightly, "Emma i think we should take a break." He said. He didn't want her to have to go through this crap with him. He sighed as she cried then flinched slighty when she started yelling. HE shook his head then walked out of the gym. HE didn't feel like dealing with this. Silas went to his class then slid into his seat. He pulled his hood down and rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't want any connections right now. Silas frowned as the teacher laid a test in front of him. Silas shook his head then laid his head on the desk and closed his eyes. Why take a test when in a few months none of this would matter anyway. Hell for all he knew he could be a lifeless skeleton in a coffin that looked nothing like him.

Imogen looked up from her locker when she heard a groan, it was Silas. He didn't look so good, and she wondered if it had anything to do with him being gone most of the week. Her eyes lingered on him for a minute longer until she noticed Emma walking up to him. She looked away and rummaged through her locker to find her physics book. "Thank god it's Thursday," Aly, one of Imogen's friends, whined, "I'm so desperately ready for Friday." Imogen smiled and shut her locker, following the other two girls down the hall. She was excited for Friday as well. This weekend she was going to a book fair where her favorite author was going to be doing a book signing. "Meet us at lunch?" Imogen nodded and walked into her physics class, taking her seat in the second row, closest to the window. It took maybe twenty minutes for Imogen to finish her report and turn it in, she was always a fast worker. Since she'd finished the assignment early, while the rest of the class worked on it, she put in her headphones and gazed out the window until the bell rang. She floated through the rest of her classes doing basically the same thing in each of them. She sighed as the last class before lunch finally ended and made her way to the cafeteria. She found Aly and a few other girls sitting in their usual spot and sat down next to them. For whatever reason, Imogen had recently been finding herself less and less interested in everything her friends talked about. Especially when the focus of all their conversations was typically boys and shopping. Weren't there better things to talk about? Didn't anyone have anything remotely interesting to talk about anymore? Still, Imogen smiled at all the appropriate times and laughed when the other girls laughed.

  • Silas sighed as he walked out of class then made his way to the lunchroom. He sat there, not touching any of the food. The thought of food just wasn't appealing to him. He looked out the window and then let his eyes scan the room. He just wanted to go home and get away from all of these people. Silas was relieved when the bell rang. He decided he was going to skip the rest of the day. He walked out the doors and headed to his car. He unlocked his door then climbed in, starting his car. He was ready to get back to his house and relax.

Imogen watched everyone else in the lunchroom and as the hour came to end she noticed Silas sitting there alone, not talking to anyone, or eating either. She wondered why she kept noticing him lately. Maybe it was because he wasn't where he usually was - wrapped up in Emma or talking in a group of jocks just like himself. When lunch was over she made way to the library and scanned the shelves for something she hadn't read before. Once she'd found one she went to her usual table and sat down to read. Imogen spent the rest of her day in the library as an intern and also as a tutor. Of course, recently there wasn't much for her to do so she really just spent the couple hours reading, not that she would complain about that. By the end of the day Imogen packed up her things and walked home. It was somewhat of a long walk, but since Imogen had no car, she preferred walking over riding the bus.

  • [Gonna skip a month or so :)]

Silas frowned as he walked into the library. His mother was forcing him to get a tutor because she was concerned about his slipping grades. Like that mattered at this point. He lucked out and didn't look any different yet because his doctors were trying to avoid the chemotherapy. He sat down in front of Imogen and held his hand up when she went to talk. "Let's get something straight. I don't want you to help me nor do i need it." He explained. "So i'm going to come here for a few weeks, your not going to teach me anything and then we will go our separate ways."He said. He leaned back and crossed his arms. He had quit sports by this point so he didn't need to worry about grades.

Imogen sat in the library reading like usual when Silas plopped down in the chair across from her. She set her book down and was about to ask him where he'd like to start at when he cut her off. She sat silently for a minute after he'd finished with his "instructions" on how the tutoring was going to work. "You've got a funny way of saying hello. Do you talk to everyone that way or am I the exception? Because personally, if you're not here to learn, I'll go ahead and go back to reading." Imogen eyed his crossed arms and lifted her book back up.

  • Silas shrugged, "What you reading anyway?" He asked as he pulled the book from her hand. He looked at it then looked back at her. Silas handed it back to her then sighed as he leaned back against the chair again. "So this is how you always spend your time?" He asked as he looked around the library. he really didn't understand why someone would want to be at school longer than they had to.

Imogen huffed when Silas pulled the book from her hands. "Do you always just act before you think? Maybe instead of tutoring you in chemistry, I should teach you common manners." She took the book back and set it down to the side. She looked at him again, wondering why he bothered to ask something he cared nothing about. "Haven't you ever done something that mentally took you to another place? I'm sure you feel that way about basketball. Anyway, it's how I feel about reading. And the library is a good place for it, since it's full of books."

  • Silas frowned, "Basketball is stupid and a waste of time." He said as he leaned back against his chair. "Reading also seems like a waste of time, but if that is what you like then good for you." he said. He sighed, knowing that he usually wasn't this bitter. "Sorry." He muttered. He didn't like that he was being a jerk, but it did seem to help with not getting close to people.

Imogen tilted her head in confusion, then remembered Silas had quit basketball. She mentally kicked herself for that. A light frown made way across her face when he muttered an apology. He was quite the mystery. For three years he had been the basketball star, Mr. Popular, and now he sat in her tutor hour, full of something intense that she didn't quite understand. It was actually extremely intriguing for Imogen. She leaned forward on the table, resting her chin on her hand and offered a small smile, "so, if you don't want me to teach you anything, and you're not going to let me read, what are we going to do for the next three weeks?"

  • Silas thought for a moment then stood up, "Come on." He said. He grabbed his bag then walked out with her. He got in his car then pulled out of the parking lot. Silas drove til they were out of town and at the beach. He got out and walked with her onto the pier. He looked ahead of him, seeing the shops and games. "So you hungry?" He asked, looking down at her. He figured he should take her some place fun because he could at least do something nice for someone else.

Imogen was almost startled when Silas stood up and told her to follow him, but she did anyway. The drive was silent but she didn't mind it. When they walked out onto the pier, she took in the view. There wasn't really a lot of people out, but that would have ruined it anyway. She looked up at him, for the first time realizing their height difference, and smiled. "I'm not really hungry actually, but I am dying for something to drink."

  • Silas smirked, "Well I'm starved so you can get a drink but I'm getting food." He said. He got to the small shop at the end of the pier and ordered his food. He looked at her as she ordered her drink then paid for it. "You ever been here." He asked.

She ordered a cherry coke with cherries in it. "I've never been here before. Crowds are really my thing though so I don't usually go to places like this anyway," she explained before adding, "but it's actually nice here right now." Imogen smiled and sipped her coke while they walked down the pier.

  • Silas walked with her and ate his fries, "I have always liked it here." HE said. He sat down on one of the benches with her and looked at her. "Why don't you like crowds?" He asked as he ate his food. He looked ahead of them and sighed.

Imogen nodded as she listened to Silas. She grabbed a cherry and ate it before answering, "I just don't care for being surrounded by people who don't acknowledge each others existence. That and all usually it's really noisy. I'd rather be somewhere quiet you know? Where I can just watch nature or read a book or think about anything and everything." She shrugged and grabbed another cherry. She sucked the stem in her mouth and chewed on it, then pulled it out in a knot. "Can you tie a knot in a cherry stem?" she asked with a smile.

  • Silas looked at her, "yes i can." he said. He finished his food and threw his empty container away. "I think you really need to get out more though."He said with a smirk. He walked with her,"This is way more fun then sitting in some old library." He said, laughing softly. He never thought he would actually enjoy himself with Imogen. He looked over at one of the games she was looking at. It was the basketball one, "You wanna play?" He asked as he pulled out his wallet.

Imogen smiled and shook her head, "this is kind of nice. Being out here with you." Who would have expected that Silas would bring her here in the first place. It seemed like such a random, spur of the moment act. When Silas asked her if she wanted to play the game she laughed. "You're kidding right? I couldn't make a basket to save my life." Still she grabbed a ball and tossed it up the way she imagined she was supposed to, surely looking ridiculous. Of course she completely missed the hoop. She smiled back at Silas, slightly embarrassed, "I told you."

  • Silas smirked, "I never kid." He said, chuckling. He watched as she shot then shook his head, "Wow." He teased. He grabbed the basketball and bounced it a few times, "You think too much you know that?" He asked as he shot the basketball and made it. He smiled as the guy said he could pick something. Silas got one of the huge bears then handed it to Imogen, "For you." He said.
