Matty Healy

Matty sat behind the counter of the seedy motel, the business had slowed down hours ago, only ones coming in now paid by the hour which was most of their business anyway. The tv behind him played mostly nothing but snow, as it was ancient and the owner had forgot to pay the cable bill last week so reading a book was mostly his entertainment here now or playing words with friends on his phone; only six more hours and he could go his shithole apartment and crash for a few hours before having to come back here.

Kennedy sighed as she walked into the old motel at the end of the town. "Hey Matty." She said as she handed him a hand full of cash. "I'll be expecting a visitor." She said as she took the key from him. She knew this guy probably had figured out what she was. Either that or he thought she was a giant whore. She walked into the room, then sat on the end of the bed. She put her lipstick on as she waited for her next client, as she liked to call them.

Matty gave a welcoming nod to Kennedy, taking her money and slipping her a key and watching as she headed to the room before sitting back down and waited for her coming visitor. Kennedy had been coming in to his motel for months now, he knew nothing more than her name and occupation and it was enough to know he didn't particular like seeing her coming in almost nightly but he was never one to hassle someone about their choice of job, money was money after all.

Kennedy walked out of the room about an hour later and walked into the lobby. She put the key on the desk and looked at Matty. "Have a good night."She said as she walked out of the lobby. She sighed as she made her way down the street to her crappy apartment. She really needed a way to make more money than what she was making.

Matty nodded. "See ya, Kennedy." He took the key back from her, hanging it in its place as he watched her leave the motel and with that, the traffic slowed down, no one coming in to rent a room and before long, he was clocking out and trading shifts as he headed down to a small diner on the corner.

Kennedy went into her apartment and closed her eyes. She woke up the next morning and got up. She got ready for the day then went down the street. She lit a cigarette and smiled when she saw her friend Emily. "Hey Em." She said as she leaned against the wall.

Matty walked down the street, he was nearly late for his shift down at the motel as he was coming in an hour early so that Angela could pick her sick kid up for the sitters and he didn't mind much as he had nothing else going on. He stopped by a fast food place and picked himself up dinner and as he stepped out of the restaurant, he saw Kennedy a bit down and he wondered if it was weird to approach her, they weren't friends or anything else; just some girl he gave a key to nightly.

Kennedy watched as Matty came walked by, "Hey Matty." She said. She watched as he stopped then stepped towards. "How are you" She asked as she placed her hand on his arm. She had a thing with touching guys when she talked to them. She felt like she had better control over them at that point.

Matty was a bit surprised but he turned to face her."Hey, Kennedy." He glanced down to where her hand touched his arm."Will you be coming around tonight?" He asked her and he was sure tonight would be no exception."If you come early, I might share my dinner with you." He jiggled his bag of take out with smile.

Kennedy smiled, "I may have to with that offer." She said, laughing softly. She let her hand fall from his arm and looked at him. He seemed to be lonely, "I will stop by." She assured him. She knew that he would be fun to hang out with. Maybe if she played her cards right she could make some extra cash.

Matty nodded, smiling."I'll see you later then." And he gave her friend a wave before heading toward the motel and he was a bit looking forward to seeing Kennedy later, maybe seeing her outside of what she did nightly and maybe getting to know her.

Kennedy walked down the street that night to the hotel and opened the door. "Hey Matty." She said as she stepped inside. She walked over to the counter and leaned against the counter. She smiled as she watched him for a moment. "How is your night going?"She asked as she looked at the pens in the small cup on the counter.

Matty looked up from his phone."Hey, Kennedy." He shrugged with a smile."Oh, you know the usual. Slow." He pressed a few keys on his phone before sliding it into his pocket."Needing a key?"

Kennedy shook her head, "No i just came to see you." She said as she rested her arms on the counter. She liked the idea of getting to see Matty when she wasn't working. She felt like he saw her as a bad person when she did that.

Matty wasn't expecting for Kennedy to say that and this would probably be the longest they've held a conversation in all the time she was coming into the motel, he slowly nodded."Your night's going alright?"

Kennedy nodded, "Yea it's better than it could be." She said as she glanced around the lobby. "so why is it that you work every night?" She asked. She was excited to get to know him better.

Matty shrugged at her question."Mostly because there's no one else to work the night shift. I also prefer it? Like it's just a lot different than in the day and it's nice, I guess." Though, it killed his social life as all his friends could go out and he was either at work or home asleep.

Kennedy nodded, "Wouldn't you rather be having fun and go out with your friends?" She asked, laughing softly. She thought it was pretty interesting that a person his age would like working like this. Then again she worked the nights but hers was a little more entertaining.

Matty shrugged."Sure, I guess but I'm kinda at the point where the parties are endless and I need something a bit more solid?" He shrugged and it didn't help that his, now, ex-girlfriend had only left him six months ago, she was going places and he wasn't; it might have woken him up a bit to needing other things than what he was so use too.
