You Can Wear the Crown but You're No Princess

The country of Venia is plunged into a civil war after King Cosmin rules that those who are not of royal birth can no longer use the magicks they are born with in as witchcraft is a sin according to the countries new church. Also any babies born to families who are not royal will have to kill their offspring if they show signs of processing the magicks. The royalist believe the King is right to keep the powers within the royal families as it is their right by God to rule. The rebels believe the King is oppressing the peasants and argue one can not change the way they are born. In fear of his only child's safety and virtue King Cosmin sends his 18 year old daughter to live in their southern castle believing the rebellion would attack him directly at their northern main castle and that she will wed a foreign prince there by the end of the summer. Although finding of this plot the rebellion leader and his army head to the south where they take the castle and the princess within hours. What will happen when the leader finally meets the princess?

Erika thought of when she was little. How her summers were spent running around these halls. One of the servants during the summer she five had magick dealing with wind and was able to allow her to fly through the halls. But now everything was different. Erika was being lead down the long hall by five guards. She kept her head up and posture straight. She would die as she was trained to, properly. However it was not death that she feared, it was comes first to princesses of taken lands. She had heard stories of the horrible things done to women in lands that were conquered and that was why she was shaking.

Emil stood with his council around a hastily made green light magick war table as he heard knocking on the guarded door.

"It's the princess!" A guard knocked and then opened the door to the council room. Erika was marched inside to the room where the rebellions commanders were. Quickly trying to figure which one of them was the leader she locked eyes with a boy who could not have been much older than her. She tried to keep her breathing steady. "Your the ones who want my family dead?" She addressed the room attempting to give off the air that despite being captured she was still in control.

Emil looked at her, "Says the girl whose father wants all peasants newborns that show a hint of magick dead." "Luckily, we're not as savage as your father" *Emil holds up a finger and a small green ball of light flashes and he jokingly flicks it at her*

"My father is trying to protect his people. You alone prove that those who are not connected to higher power will abuse the gifts" Erika snapped. "And you're better off just killing me now, I know what you plan on doing to me."

"Protect his people by slaughtering ours. And who's to say you higher ups won't abuse magick. And finally, what is it you think we do to people we capture?"

"Those connected to the lord would never abuse magick, they have the trust of the Lord!" Erika could not believe the blasphemy of such a question. The position of her family was chosen by the Lord himself and as long as they follow the rules the Lord passes down to the Pope they would be kept in their power. "Demon followers like yourselves rape, torture and do other terrible things to their prisoners," she answered still fighting the shaking.

"So that's what they say in the high up places? That we rape our prisoners? Sorry we have rules against that and any found committing those acts have their magick stripped from them"

"Not just you, happens in every kingdom," Erika now knowing that was her fate shrugged. "So what happens to me now?" She walked forward more info the room and closer to the council.

"Well we didn't really get that far. I guess we send words to the other rebel groups and tell them our mission was a success. What about you? Have you ever had magically conjured food?

"You didn't plan for a captive?" Erika rolled her eyes. She was no longer afraid of these men. "And of course I have! Are you forgetting who your speaking to?" In the end these men were still under her families rule, whether they liked it or not.

Emil snapped his fingers and green magic sprawled from the ground forcing Erika onto her knees and binding her. "There is no need to snap at me". Emil thought about wether or not it was worth keeping her around and wondered how little she actually knew about peasant life before her father became crazed with his war on magicks.

Erika let out a scream as she fell to her knees. Why were these men so cruel? She could feel her eyes watering and how badly she wanted to cry but she just stared at the man angrily. "Who are you?" She asked but her voice was shaky as she tried to hold back tears.

Emil sighed and turned off the restraints. "sorry " he said. "Just had to remind you of who was in charge of the situation anything you want to eat? Also," Emil stretched out his hand toward Erika "my name is Emil sorry we had to meet this way"

Erika looked at his hand in thought for a second. They wouldn't poison her, they'd look weak if they did that. Erika took his hand and nodded. "I am too."

Emil helped her stand up. "Now, tell me do you have any preference when it comes to casted food? Like a specific color and type or are you fine with me choosing?"

"Um. Just pinkish meat. Not undercooked. And wine, if possible," Erika answered confused. Why was he being so nice to her? Was she going to eat in the war council room or in a dungeon?
