"I'll miss you too," he said as she left, so softly he wasn't sure if she heard it. Alexander waited until she got inside her house to drive away. When he was back inside the safety of his bedroom, he lifted his arms and laced his fingers together behind his head. "Oh man," he muttered to himself. He blew air out through his nose.
He collapsed into his bed after stripping off the sheets and replacing them methodically. Alexander stared up at the ceiling, wondering how people didn't struggle with one night stands. It just wasn't like him at all. He rolled onto his side, closing his eyes, trying to urge himself to sleep. But nothing worked. She said she would miss me, he thought, swallowing. His throat felt dry. Alexander got up to get a glass of water. He laid back down and sighed, trying to shake the longing feeling to have her in his arms again. Did she mean that? Eventually he passed out.
Alexander slept past his alarm. He didn't remember the last time he had done that. Everything was off schedule, which made him feel messy and exasperated - on top of all that, Mary wouldn't get out of his head. She isn't thinking about you. Get your act together. He managed to make up time by skipping the restaurant and making lunch instead. It threw him off to not go to the restaurant, as he did every other day. He also couldn't decide whether he would go to the restaurant tomorrow and continue from there, or if he would wait past tomorrow to get back on track. Alexander realized he hadn't taken his meds last night - explaining his irritation.
It felt better after an hour. Plus, he would enjoy Mary's company soon. He gathered his bag and climbed into his car, driving to her house once again. Were her parents here today? Or did they always have work at this time? Maybe her father told him yesterday, and he was just too distracted. Alexander cleared his mind, and walked up to the door, lifting his hand to relay two sharp knocks.
