    Robb Stark & Nyssa Manderly

    Can't be unlearned
I've known the warmth of your doorways
Through the cold, I'll find my way back to you
Oh please, give me mercy no more.
    That's a kindness you can't avoid!
I want you baby tonight, as sure as you're born

Nyssa Manderly | Adventurous ✘ Naive ✘ Stubborn

Winterfell. The name merely stirred up an array of emotions in the young lady of House Manderly. She spent long months as a child there, and truly it was the best time in her young life. There at Winterfell she didn't have to worry about the shadow of obligation that fell on her shoulders as Lady of Manderly. She didn't have to worry about the war that had recently broken out between houses Manderly and Forrester. As a child at Winterfell, the only thing that Nyssa had to worry about, was how to get out of a reading lesson to play with Theon and Robb 'round the courtyard. But that was years ago, and Nyssa hadn't been to Winterfell in years. It had been years since she'd seen any of the Stark children- although all that was changing. Three weeks ago, the fighting drew the closest it's been to House Manderly than it had since their squabbles broke out. It scared Nyssa's parents enough to send a raven to Winterfell, halt her current engagement plans to some uptight sod from House Florent to make arrangements to send their only daughter away to the one place they could think to turn to. The one place that Brylon and Rose Manderly could think of that would keep their only child safe. Winterfell.

Three days ago they had packed her things, and with tearful eyes saw her and her carriage off. The Stark's had sent some men of theirs to escort the young lady back to Winterfell. For three days her only companions was her elderly handmaiden, Jinny. And Jinny mostly slept those three days; but that was fine for Nyssa was lost in memories. Had Sansa grown up as beautifully as she'd heard? Was Jon still the black sheep of the Stark children? What kind of child had Arya grown into? She hadn't even met the youngest, Rickon. But mostly her thoughts lingered with Robb Stark. He was easily the closest of the Stark's that Nyssa was close to. He was the one who taught her how to shoot a bow, and ride a horse. In their early years, the two were thicker than blood and almost inseparable. What was he like now? Nyssa supposed he'd be a grown now, as she was- a man. Would he remember her? Or was she just a faded memory in his mind? The three days it took to journey from her home, to Winterfell- Robb Stark wasn't far from her mind. In any event, Nyssa would just be happy to see the Stark's again. Catelyn and Eddard always treated her very well, like family even though her house was far less prominent than their's.

Currently, she was startled out of her thoughts by a sharp knocking at the carriage door, as a voice called out "M'lady? We'll be reaching the gates of Winterfell in twenty minutes." A thrill rushed down Nyssa's spine at this as she straightened up. Her handmaid, Jinny was also startled awake and her old wizened gaze dragged across the younger woman's face. "'Ere, let me tidy you up. Your hairs a mess, and your cloak is crooked. Honestly girl." She murmured, and the rest of those twenty minutes were endured with Jinny hurriedly trying to fix her appearance to something more ladylike, rather than a common traveler. "You must be mindful to respect the lords and ladies of the Stark house. Even the youngin's. Do as you're asked and try not to get underfoot." Jinny reminded as their carriage came to a stop. "Yes. You needn't worry." The girl reminded, raising an eyebrow while her lips could scarcely contain her grin. Too soon, and yet not soon enough the carriage door was opened and once again Nyssa was greeted with the sight of Winterfell. It looked grand, the Stark banners displayed proudly for all to see as soon as they passed through the gate's. A chilly wind blew through the air, and Nyssa almost forgot how cold it got here.

She hardly was able to stop herself from bounding out of the carriage and greeting the Stark's who had gathered to receive her. Rather, she carefully and delicately got from the carriage, trying to hide her wince when her cramped legs touched solid ground. Ned Stark was the first one to greet her; a warm smile on his lips. "Lady Manderly. It's been too long, I hope you find your stay at Winterfell enjoyable." His honest words were a relief to hear. "Thank you M'lord." She spoke in her clear, sweet voice her gaze quickly sweeping over the children until she found whom she was looking for. Robb. He had certainly grown into a man since they had last seen one another. His rounded baby cheeks were gone, replaced with sharp jawline and stubble. The only reason that Nyssa recognized the man, was his eyes. They were the same, bright pigments of cobalt that seemed alive all on their own.

Without her realization a small smile touched on her lips as he approached her with meaningful strides. "Nyssa, you recall Robb I'm sure. We figured it would make you most comfortable if we had him show you around. It's been so long since you've been here after all." Catelyn spoke, and Nyssa quickly averted her gaze from Robb's with a quick nod. "That's very thoughtful of you. Thank you Lady Stark." The matriarch of the Stark's simply waved her thanks off. "Of course. You are our guest, anything to make yo feel more comfortable. I imagine you're tired- Robb show Lady Manderly to her chambers please. We'll be having dinner in a few hours. We'll have more time to speak then." Catelyn ordered. Always in charge of the situation, as Nyssa recalled. Five pair of curious Stark eyes lingered as Catelyn began shooing her children off; leaving just Robb and Nyssa in the courtyards of Winterfell. "Robb. How have you been?" Nyssa asked, once the other Starks began to disperse, her voice polite and hopeful that the next Lord of Winterfell would remember her from their childhood.

The first to tell him of the impending arrival of one Lady Nyssa Manderly had been his mother. Robb had looked down at her with a frown, not believing the words for one moment. There was no way that Nyssa was on her way here - after so many years of not seeing the brunette. He was often teased by Theon and Jon about how in love with her he still was. It hadn't helped when they had stumbled upon him in the middle of the night, mid wet dream, whimpering her name as he twisted and turned under the furs. Waking to the sound of howling laughter, Robb had been truly and utterly horrified to discover his brother and his best friend had witnessed such a thing. Robb had worked to keep it a secret - Nyssa was of lower status. He thought there was a brief chance he could persuade his parents into allowing the marriage. But then, just a few weeks after contemplating the idea, a raven arrived to Winterfell. An invitation to Nyssa's wedding to a Florent son. Robb had gone on a long ride that day, intent on clearing his head and for once, his friends hadn't bothered to follow after him. Of that, he had been thankful.

Only days later had another raven arrived, asking for protection for their only daughter. Robb, if he had known before Nyssa was sent for, would have been on his horse before he thought better of the idea. His parents had kept the news from him until the day of her arrival for that very reason. Many words could be used to describe the eldest Stark son, honorable perhaps the most prevalent. Robb had grown up beside Nyssa, he was like a sister they said. They had been right to assume Robb would go to her aide because the moment Catelyn mention Nyssa's troubles, he had stood from his seat at the table, an order on the tip of his tongue for one of the servants to fetch his sword and his horse. Ned stopped his son with a hand on his shoulder, promised that Nyssa was already safe, she would be here before nightfall.

Instead, Robb had apologized to his parents and excused himself from the table. He needed to ready himself. Robb asked a passing servant to ready a bath and by the time he reached his quarters, a steaming one was ready. Shooing the servant away, Robb bathed and dressed in his best clothes. He had to impress... perhaps there was still a chance. No, never mind that. Nyssa would return to her family one day and marry to the Florent boy like she was supposed to, surely. Robb wasn't going to dress horribly though, he had a reputation of the heir to Winterfell to uphold.

Standing beside Ned Stark, Robb felt like time was crawling by. The sound of horses hooves were enough to bring everyone down to the clearing in the center of the castle. The castle doors opened and the first sight that greeted him had unfortunately been Stark men. Not what he had been hoping for. He was quiet even as a carriage pulled around so that the door faced them. Robb couldn't help the smile that was brought to his lips, watching intently as Nyssa Manderly climbed out of the carriage, followed by an older, wrinkled woman.

His father greeted her first and then her mother spoke. Then it was his turn. Robb stepped forward, forcing his lips into a firm line. He reached out his hand to take hers as Catelyn spoke. Robb looked up to Nyssa then and a smirk found it's way onto his lips. "C'mere," he said, pulling Nyssa into a tight embrace, in front of them all. He was the heir to Winterfell, he could surely get away with a bit of informality in his own home. "Missed you," Robb muttered into her hair, only pulling away when he heard Ned clear his throat.

The moment that Nyssa finished greeting the other Stark children, Robb held out an arm for her. "Come, I'll show you to your chambers, m'lady." Leading the way to her chambers, Robb did his best to contain his excitement. It had been shown enough by his greeting of her. "I've been well. Mother didn't tell me of your arrival until lunch today," Robb said, letting out a soft laugh at the thought. "Or I would have prepared something more extravagant for you, of course."

Nyssa Manderly | Adventurous ✘ Naive ✘ Stubborn

Robb surely remembered her, as was evident when the young man strolled over pulling her into a firm embrace. At once her cheek was pressed against the soft furs of his armor, and Nyssa was sure her face was red as a tomato. "Missed you." Robb murmured into her hair, for Nyssa's ears only. It took a moment for the young woman to recall how to breathe properly. Rather than do the proper thing and pull away, the brunette returned the embrace, her arms encircling his neck "And I you." It was so good to see her childhood friend again. It was when Ned Stark cleared his throat did Robb pull away, and Nyssa averted her gaze hoping her cheeks weren't as red as she thought. She didn't miss the amusement on Theon and Jon's faces; though pretended not to notice them as she smiled warmly at the two boys. "Lady Manderly." the two chorused, an impish gleam in the Greyjoy boy's gaze. Soon enough introductions and hello's were out of the way and one by one the Stark children began to wander off. "Come, I'll show you to your chambers, m'lady." Robb spoke once she had finished greeting everyone, and Nyssa nodded amicably; and with a brief moment of hesitation took the arm offered to her. "I've been well. Mother didn't tell me of your arrival until lunch today." He informed, and after a brief moment chuckled. Gods she had missed that laugh, more than she could or would admit. "Well, if Lady Stark didn't inform you of my arrival I'm sure it's because she thought you'd do something foolish. If I recall correctly we were quite the troublemakers growing up."

Not to mention she'd recently heard of the passing of Jon Arryn. Cat's brother by marriage. It was abrupt from what she'd overheard her mother saying about the matter. She figured the matriarch of the Stark's must have heavy weight on her mind at this news. Together they made their way indoors to Winterfell, and Nyssa had to admit it had scarcely changed- if at all. The same beautiful, elegant decor and high ceilings; there were even some familiar handmaidens and servants; albeit a bit older looking than what Nyssa could recall. The moment they made their way indoors, warmth began to chase away the cold Northern chill of outside. "-Or I would have prepared something more extravagant for you, of course." Robb spoke again, and Nyssa scoffed playfully rolling her eyes. "Come now, surely you're teasing me M'lord." after a chuckle, she added in a semi-serious tone, "Though to be truthful with you- anything that's not the inside of a carriage is pretty extravagant." She'd much rather of ridden one of the horses, rather than be stuck in the same tiny carriage for days. If nothing else, Nyssa was simply grateful for being out of the cramped space, and walking around the spacious halls of Winterfell with Robb. Every so often she'd sneak glances at the eldest Stark boy, her heat skipping a beat. She had adored him as a child, and well it was all coming back to her rather strongly. She had harbored feelings for the eldest Stark for years now, in fact Nyssa probably loved him before she knew what love even was.

But she wasn't a fool. She was already promised to someone else, no matter how dreadfully boorish he may be. And even if she wasn't, Robb Stark wouldn't be wed off to just anyone, and almost certainly not a lower house like Manderly. No, a more liable candidate was the Tyrell girl. Someone with sway and power, and coin. That logic however, didn't stop Nyssa's heart from skipping a few beats while being in the Young Wolf's presence. Eventually the pair came to her chambers, the ones that she had stayed in as a child. There was a sharp, unbidden pang of homesickness. She'd send a raven to her parents after dinner to make sure all was well with them and House Forrester hadn't actually breached their castle as they were frightened of. Gingerly she let go of Robb's arm taking a few paces inside the room noting that most things were laid out. The bed was finely made, there was a small bowl of fruits, mainly apples, in a bowl and a small pitcher of water. A large window was letting natural light stream into the room illuminating it nicely. "I think you could blindfold me and I'd still be able to find my way around Winterfell." She remarked with amusement, turning back to Robb with an eager smile as she stood in the middle of her room, a stray patch of sunlight falling upon her cheek and illuminating the skin there. "If you're not busy perhaps you wouldn't mind sitting with me for a bit, and catching up with one another?" She asked, reasoning with herself it wasn't an invitation to her bed.

It wasn't improper as she took a seat at the small table near the fireplace, inviting Robb to the one across from her. No, it wasn't like that at all. She simply wanted to catch up with Robb, whom Nyssa was certain saw her nothing more than a little sister. What had he been doing over the years while she was away? Keeping himself busy between books and studies? Or still wreaking havoc with Theon and Jon? How had life at Winterfell treated him thus far, was he happy here? How did he feel on being next in line for Winterfell? Her house wasn't nearly as big though the thought of having the responsibilities fall to her, made her stomach turn. Of course the most nauseating responsibility that would fall to her was producing an heir for the Florent and Manderly houses. Just the thought made her nose crinkle, though here wasn't the time or place. She suspected this stay at Winterfell would be the last time Nyssa would be here and be free. "So, what have I missed? What has the future Lord of Winterfell been keeping himself busy with over my absence? The years do seem to have treated you well." She asked once Robb sat across from her, leaning back in her chair a little to give him a wicked little smile.

"I suspect that is why," Robb answered back, not shy about the smile that had graced his features. With Nyssa here, Robb was hopeful that he would have the chance to catch up with her and just a little less on his duties as the heir to Winterfell. There had been little time to discuss such a thing with his father but being the oldest son, Robb was sure that if he argued well enough, that he would win the argument. If Catelyn had anything to do with it though, Robb's chances dwindled certainly. His mother was one helluva strong woman, able to both handle the role of Lady of Winterfell, and to raise five strong-willed Stark children? As he grew older, Robb's respect for his mother had only grown. There were times as he grew that he could tell his antics wore on her and he almost had felt bad. Those feelings were quickly diminished with his brother and best friend by his side. The three of them together, little control was had over them. Even at a correction, the three boys rarely behaved longer than an adult's eyes were on them.

Reaching Nyssa's chambers, Robb felt a tug at his heart. He didn't want to leave her so soon, not when they had just been reunited. It would only be for a bit, until the Forresters were defeated, that Nyssa remained at Winterfell. Then she would be off again, to wed someone that wasn't him. This would certainly be the last time that they would get to reminisce together, to recall fond memories from their childhood. Watching as Nyssa moved into the room, Robb bit back a remark about her beauty. The sunlight that lit her skin in all the right was just made Robb want to close the distance between them even more so than he already had. But that wouldn't have been proper, Nyssa was promised to another and Robb, well, he would be married to a Lady one day. Who and when were the only pieces of the puzzle that still needed filling in.

An invitation was all that Robb had needed. Quickly, Robb moved into the room and pulled a chair out opposite from Nyssa. He smiled gently, trying to keep his excitement intact. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable here, she deserved a few moments of peace and rest at the very least. He could only imagine how concerned for her parents and family she was, he could help distract her perhaps. Maybe with a ride... or target practice.. or, no. Not going there with his thoughts, not with Nyssa directly opposite him. He would say something foolish and have to leave the room.

A cocky smirk jumped to his lips at the compliment. Robb leaned against the edge of the table, tongue darting out over his lips before he spoke. "Learning from Father as much as I can. One day I will be Lord here. I can only hope I will be half of the ruler he is," Robb spoke quietly, an answer that he had rehearsed and given time and time again. All with different words but the meaning was the same. The point, the same. Robb admired his father as did many of the North. Ned had earned the respect and admiration of his people because he was an honorable, trustworthy, and just man. Robb could only hope that he would one day have the same following that his father did.

"Never mind me, m'Lady," Robb spoke, pouring them each a bit of the water. He took a sip, to wet his palette. His throat had gone dry, nerves getting to him with Nyssa finally here again. "I hear your hand was promised to a... Florent, if I recall correctly?" Smooth, Robb. Real smooth, skip right around the polite small talk and to a subject that had left him sore and rotten for the first few days after receiving the news. Maybe he could get inside her head and figure out what her thoughts were on the matter.

Nyssa Manderly | Adventurous ✘ Naive ✘ Stubborn

Robb was wise, wise enough to recognize his father was not only a popular leader inspiring lords and common-folk alike; but a smart one. "Eddard Stark has forged strong relations with the houses of the North, the people. It's wise to learn from him." She agreed, because Nyssa figured as long as it was a Stark that claimed title of King in the North; the houses and the people would be happy. If nothing else the North were a loyal lot. Her house included, should they ever need to call on the Manderly's they would answer. But this was all just political talk. What else could she expect though? This was just how life naturally progressed. "I hear your hand was promised to a... Florent, if I recall correctly?" At the mention of her engagement Nyssa's features tensed for just a moment with something akin to sorrow and panic. She knew the Starks had been informed of her wedding plans, but she hadn't truly expected Robb to bring them up so quickly. Poor man probably just wanted to congratulate her, he couldn't know that whenever it was mentioned her skin crawled. When she first heard the news she had plead with her father to call it off. Not only had she only met the Florent man once, twelve years her senior, but it was also a Southern House.

Once the wedding took place, she was likely to spend most her time at the Florent House until her parents died and House Manderly became her's truly. "Ah... That."She murmured, voice quiet. "Yes. House Florent seemed like a good match my parents thought. The possibility of gaining lands in the South is quite tantalizing for them. I think my mother wishes to spend the remainder of her days out South, away from the colds of the North." Her voice was somewhat strained. This was a fight she had many times with her mother and father. And a fight she lost many times. "You have to preform your duty Nyssa. The Florent's are a strong House. You can't hold out for a man that's never going to ask for your hand." Her mother had scolded time and time again. Falsely she smiled, hiding her displeasure with the match she'd been thrust into. "I believe your family has been invited to the wedding. I can only hope to see you all there." Feeling her mouth go dry at the words, Nyssa poured herself a glass of water, forcing herself to take measured sips rather than down the goblet like she wanted. "I'm almost surprised that I haven't heard any plans of engagement for you." She commented, almost absently. Robb was undeniably handsome, and a desirable option.

But moreover, and what drew Nyssa to him like an Ironborn to the sea- he was a good man. A strong one. She wasn't sure the same could be said for who she was to be wed off to. She was aware of his eyes on her, sharp and intense, studying her reactions. She doubted he failed to see through her facade of complacent joy in her arrangement, but she hoped she didn't come off miserable enough to warrant a question out of him. So rather she fell into a period of silence, taking a sip of water here and there to wet her gullet. "Robb." His name was spoken softly, and at once his attention was garnered back to her. "Thank you. For all your family has done for me. I apologize for falling out of contact with you and the Stark's. Some of my favorite memories are within Winterfell walls. Even if it's only for a short time- I truly am happy to be back." Nyssa promised, a genuine warmth in her voice. That had been one the things she regretted in her life. She had always meant to stay in touch with the Stark's and their ilk; but Nyssa had just become overwhelmed with responsibilities. It often slipped her mind to remember to write to her friends. But she figured all of that was in the past now. She'd be here for a few months at least, while her House tried to fend off the Forrester's and reclaim their lands once again.

She would have time to get to know Robb again, and all of them really. Arya had still been in diapers when she was here last. Sansa was only a couple years younger than Nyssa and already growing into a beautiful young woman. Nyssa wondered if she was still as much of a lady as she'd been when they were kids. And she'd enjoy spending time with Jon and Theon as well. The Manderly woman was determined to make the most of her time here while it lasted. "If you can spare it, I look forward to spending time with you." It was perhaps a little bold of a statement, though it was a true one. Outside the sun had begun it's descent behind the treeline, throwing rays of fiery-orange and delicate pinks into the room. It was getting dark and soon they would both be called to dinner. The last thing she'd eaten was an apple around midday as Nyssa had simply wanted to get here, and not waste time to stop and find something to eat. The last rays of light struck through Robb's thick, curly mass of hair, streaking it with pretty colors. "You can't think in that way." She quietly reminded herself. If Nyssa allowed herself to become once again attached to Robb Stark- it would only hurt that much more when she went back to her own House and married the Florent male.

Part dread because a Northern Lady promised to a Southern Lord made his skin crawl but really, Robb had known why he was so opposed to the marriage the first he heard of it. The idea of Nyssa marrying off to a Lord that surely wouldn't treat her as well as he would made him angry. But what was there to say? Even if he had dared to bring the subject up to his parents, Robb had no way of knowing how the conversation would have gone. He thought his mother may have almost been sympathetic to the situation, maybe even his father. But it would have been his father that would have sighed, taken Robb off to sit and discuss the matter privately. Robb would be Lord of Winterfell one day. Warden of the North. He had a duty to his people first and foremost. The Manderlys loyalty would never come into question, the Starks knew that. Their allegiance didn't need to be strengthened in any sense of the world.

As Nyssa spoke of her future marriage, Robb had to fight the laugh that bubbled in his chest. She wasn't fond of the idea, he had seen right through the lie that she had told. He wanted to press more, to ask if she thought there was any chance at wriggling her way out of the predicament. Robb didn't have to think twice, if he asked for her hand, it would have been his without much thought surely. Her parents would be delighted to find that the heir to the North wanted their daughter was a wife. It would upset the Florent Lord. With a war brewing, Father would never allow it. They needed to prepare for the war that they all knew was coming, not upset the Southern Lords because of his own selfish desires. Robb's face scrunched at the mention of his own marriage. "It's likely that I will be wed to Myrcella. Perhaps even the Tyrell princess," he mused, rubbing his face as he considered the options. He had met Myrcella enough times that if that was meant to be, he would have been alright with the idea. The Tyrell girl, he had never met so he had no way of knowing how to feel about such an idea. "Father has only barely mentioned the subject, I've no idea what his thoughts on the subject are." I know what mine are.

Robb was left staring at the wall behind Nyssa, lost in his own thoughts. It wasn't until she said her name that he jerked back to attention, his eyes back on her. He smiled just a bit, shaking hsi head. "There's no need to thank us, Nyssa. We owe just as much devotion to your family as much as the opposite can be said," Robb spoke softly. It was true though, the Manderlys had backed them for a thousand years. Had a large part in why the Starks grew into the family that the North remembered always.

Perking up as an idea hit him, Robb couldn't help the grin that tugged on the corners of his lips. "It has been awhile. Would you be interested in a ride tomorrow morning? Just you and me, like old times. We don't have to answer to anyone but ourselves out there," Robb said after a moment of consideration. He hoped she would say yes but then he wouldn't have blamed her in the least bit if she denied his request. He didn't miss what his words implied, or at least what they made him think of. Nyssa was an innocent girl though, she would have missed over his implication. She must have.

Nyssa Manderly | Adventurous ✘ Naive ✘ Stubborn

"Our House owes your's." She said simply. Long, long ago when the Manderly's had been driven from The Reach it had been the Starks to offer them lands in exchange for fealty. Their houses had been bonded strongly since. "It has been awhile. Would you be interested in a ride tomorrow morning? Just you and me, like old times. We don't have to answer to anyone but ourselves out there," At the mention of a ride, Nyssa perked up almost immediately. She adored riding and would of come on her own had her parents not forbade it. Her mother often scolded her when Nyssa slipped out of sewing lessons, or history lessons in favor of riding or hunting. "We're raising a lady, not a wildling!" Rose Manderly would scold while Brylon could scarcely contain his laughter at his daughter's odd preferred actives, or her fierce glares. "I'd love to!" She exclaimed happily. "I will warn you though, I've gotten much better at riding since we last saw each other." She'd been afraid of horses when Robb and Theon took it upon themselves to teach the Manderly girl to ride. Not to mention the many times she'd slipped out of the saddle.

At least during their ride tomorrow, Nyssa could forget about her House's trouble for a little while. At Winterfell, she didn't have to worry about her impending engagement, or the violence with House Forrester. Hell, Nyssa didn't even have to worry about being Nyssa Manderly- a lady instilled with propriety and etiquette. She could simply enjoy herself as she hadn't a chance to do for the longest times. There was something in Robb's gaze that made her heartbeat pick up, and a delicate blush stain her otherwise ivory cheeks. The loud noise of her door being thrown open though startled Nyssa, as she flinched her gaze breaking from his to find the source of the intrusion. Jinny. The elderly handmaiden seemed shock to find Robb Stark sitting across from her Lady though quickly composed herself with a throat clear. "M'Lord. I'm to get Nyssa ready for dinner, and draw a bath for her." It was probably for the best. What childhood feelings she had for Robb clearly weren't gone. He was her unintentional wolf, oh how easy she could fall prey to him should she not be careful.

"I'll see you at dinner then." Nyssa bade as she stood up as Robb did. The two bade their goodbyes as Jinny bustled about, picking out what the Manderly girl was to wear for the dinner with the Stark's. Jinny moved with a surprising efficiency for someone her age, directing Nyssa to the bath which had been drawn up for her. Jinny said nothing at first as Nyssa soaked away the bumps and aches of the carriage. However by the way her sharp old eyes would flicker over to the young woman, the brunette could tell she had something to say. It wasn't until she was washing her hair with what had been offered did she pursue the issue. "Do tell what's on your mind." Nyssa bade, turning her head so she could fix her handmaiden with a curious expression. "I think you're getting yourself into trouble with that Stark boy." Jinny retorted, making Nyssa scoff. "Hardly." Though Jinny wasn't taking that as an answer. She was silent as Nyssa began to wash her hair of the perfumes and soaps that had been provided.

"Nyssa, just listen to me this once. I've reared you since you were a little thing. I know that the Young Wolf is important to you... But please remember your duty to your family and to House Florent. Things are already tense- do not make it worse." Jinny lectured, making Nyssa's cheeks burn. She wouldn't forget about her marriage; nor would she forget what Robb said about his own. Likely a Lannister or Tyrell he'd end up with. "We've only been catching up. There's nothing to worry about." Jinny scoffed, laying out a dress of delicate blue's with gold designs. "Then don't go riding with him tomorrow. That's asking for trouble." Jinny deadpanned as Nyssa finished with her bath, stepping out into a towel that was provided. She wanted to protest, but that would only raise Jinny's suspicions further. And she was right, there an attraction she felt for Robb Stark. "Fine." She muttered, drying off.

The rest of the time getting ready was spent in sullen silence. Jinny didn't speak again as she carefully arranged Nyssa's hair into an intricate braided bun. Finally, she was ready and Jinny was shooing her off to the greathall to dine with the rest of the Stark's. Her chambers weren't dreadfully far, so it was a rather short walk. Jinny elected to stay back, leaving Nyssa to walk to the Greathall all on her own. Once making it there, she was greeted with a rowdy scene. Many happy faces sat together, though her gaze was drawn towards Robb; finding his gaze was resting on her as well. Hurriedly she snapped her gaze away and rather than taking the seat next to him, took the spot next to Jon at the end of one of the tables towards the back. If Jinny thought she was going to get herself into trouble with Robb Stark; she wouldn't put it past the elder woman to bring those concerns up to her parents- and that was last thing Nyssa wanted to deal with.

Robb had known it was a bad idea the moment the offer fell from his lips and yet he couldn't bring himself to take it back. It would have been easy enough, to apologize and say that perhaps they shouldn't ride off into the woods on their own. Give a false statement that it could be a potential danger to her, what with all the beasts roaming through the woods. He couldn't bare to let her succumb to a stupid desire of his. Whatever potential to take it back was dashed by the way that Nyssa's face lit up near instantly. Her excitement brought his smile higher on his cheeks and he found himself nodding. "It will be so then. I'll have the horses readied and we will ride before breakfast that way we can return to a feast!" Robb exclaimed, his mind already racing to plan the following day. They wouldn't have too long together but surely, if they took an hour or two to themselves early on before breakfast, they wouldn't get themselves into too much trouble.

Finding that his attire was far too much even for the winter that plagued the outside world, Robb took his outer most furs off. He made his way downstairs and it wasn't long until he happened upon Theon and Jon. Before he could even say a thing, Theon was joking about Nyssa, all while elbowing him in the side. Jon stood there, echoing Theon's words while laughing and shaking his head. It was all in good fun, Robb knew, but he couldn't help but to be put on edge. Torn between knowing his family would need his loyalty above all else and his own personal desires. Seeing Nyssa again after all these years had done nothing but to reaffirm his little crush on her.

The call from a servant alerted the three boys to supper being ready and like the teenaged boys they were, they ran in the direction of the great hall. A feast was to be had and they had each worked up an appetite that probably could eat an entire boar amongst themselves. Robb had been particular enough to make sure the seat beside him was empty for Nyssa's presence. Spotting her immediately upon her arrival, Robb offered a gentle smile. He couldn't be too excited. He raised a hand to motion toward the empty seat beside him only for his smile to falter when she took a seat beside his brother. His eyes narrowed and he thought for just a fleeting moment about going to find out why. Shaking the thought away, Robb turned back to his plate of food, digging in without much more thought.

By the time that his plate was emptied of food, Robb had finished off his second glass of mead. Standing, he leaned to his parents and begged for a pardon. Ned gave a wave of his hand and Robb took that as all he needed, ignoring the piercing gaze from his mother. Leaving the Greatroom, Robb focused on keeping his footsteps straight as he made his way toward his chambers where he could collect his thoughts and hopefully sleep off the decent buzz that he had going.

Nyssa Manderly | Adventurous ✘ Naive ✘ Stubborn

Dinner was enjoyable enough, though Nyssa kept finding her gaze drawn towards the table at the front of the hall, where Ned, Catelyn, and Robb Stark sat. If Jon noticed he said nothing, rather trying to keep the conversation light between them. She listened as he discussed his plans to ride North, and join the Night Watch. This shouldn't of surprised Nyssa, though it did. The Night Watch was a difficult position to hold, and once he joined- Jon would be bound for life. Though he'd mostly been a serious child growing up so maybe the position would suit him well. "I hope it brings you happiness Jon Snow." Nyssa murmured, pausing in eating what was left on her plate. Other than that two mostly reminisced about childhood memories; mostly making the young Manderly woman laugh at the recollection of how horrid they'd all been together. Jon was recanting the memory of watching Theon's infamous meltdown when Nyssa, Robb, and Jon had collected spiders, releasing them onto the poor Greyjoy at one supper.

He still disliked spiders to this day Jon informed with a roguish light in his dark eyes. "It's a wonder Cat didn't string us up by the toes for that one." Nyssa commented between giggles, the peripheral of her vision catching Robb making his way woozily from the Greathall. Her first instinct was to get up and go after him; help him to his room to make sure he didn't trip of stumble. And her legs tensed as if to get up though something kept the young Manderly to her spot. That wasn't her place, and so Nyssa turned back to her food trying to forget she'd even caught that stolen glimpse of Robb. Again, if Jon noted he said nothing. Eventually, thing began to wind down and with most of the food cleared off her plate and her goblet of mead only half full now- Nyssa was ready to call it a night. She had been traveling for three days and for three days had been sleeping on the carriage's bench. She was ready to collapse into bed. So she bid goodnight to Jon, dipped her head towards Ned and Cat before making her way out of the Greathall. For once the halls of Winterfell were shockingly quiet, and her own footsteps bounced off the walls.

A warm content stung her bones; it would be hard to leave this place once again. She'd seldom have a reason to come back once she was married off to the Florent boy. Head slightly spinning from the mead, Nyssa was relieved to make it back to her own chambers. Jinny was waiting for her, and the old handmaiden wasted no time in helping Nyssa out of her dress and corsets. "How was dinner?" It had gone well enough. "Fine I guess. I caught up with Jon Snow. Did you know he plans on joining the Night Watch?" Jinny made a soft humming noise as she unlaced the back of her dress. "I wasn't aware." She was too tired to make much more conversation and the moment she was out of her dress, and into her nightclothes Nyssa happily flopped into bed. "What shall I tell Robb tomorrow then? Since you seem convinced Ill get myself into trouble catching up with an old friend." Her voice was slightly sarcastic.

"Don't fret about that. I'll tell him you're feeling ill. That'll give you a chance to rest." Jinny promised. With that squared away Nyssa settled beneath the furs and blankets, almost impossibly soft. "Leave out some parchment and ink. I'll write to Mother and Father tomorrow to tell them we've arrived safely." Nyssa murmured in an exhausted tone. "Yes m'lady. Get some rest now." Jinny bade and for once, the young Manderly did as she was told her eyes fluttering shut. Soon her soft slow breaths were the only thing that could be heard in her room as she fell into a deep slumber.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________

"Get up! You're going to sleep the entire day away!" A rather familiar aged voice commanded as curtains were tossed aside to allow for the light to stream into the room. In response Nyssa groaned, shifting and trying to press her face into her pillows. Though it was no avail. Jinny shook her petite form and realizing her maid wasn't going to let up Nyssa huffed sitting up; her hair in wild disarray. Jinny proved to be more troublesome than she usually was, and by her second hour awake; Nyssa was craving some time away from the handmaiden. There was a Godswood that Jinny wouldn't dare follow her to. And though it was supposed to be a place of worship, it also yielded Nyssa a spot of solitude. So she had tersely informed Jinny she was going to worship at the Godswood, and as soon as Jinny, grumbling, had helped dress her in a dark green dress with bits of silver decoration, and a thick cloak Nyssa hurried out of her chambers and towards the Courtyard.

Bran, Rickon, and Arya were all passing a bow back and forth to one another, aiming at little targets as some of Stark soldiers watched. She offered the children a small smile before continuing on her way. It wasn't a terribly long walk, good enough to get her blood flowing and cheeks red beneath the Northern chill as she approached the ancient tree. It was as strange and beautiful as she remembered, serene little ponds dotting the land around the Godswood. It always gave the impression of watching, though it didn't unnerve Nyssa like it unnerved some. "I don't suppose you give guidance out to silly little girls with silly problems?" She asked of the Godswood, half-sarcastically. A day here and she was already being drawn towards Robb like broken bits of a teacup. "Gods protect me." She murmured, sitting on the ground so her back was leaned against the ancient, bone-white bark.

Being as frustrated with life as he had been, Robb didn't bother to disrobe as he reached his chambers. Kicking his shoes off haphazardly, Robb all but threw himself onto the bed that awaited him. By the time his head hit the pillow, Robb was already drifting off to the wonderland of sleep. The last thought that crossed his mind had him pulling a fur over his body to keep him warm throughout the night, so that he wouldn't wake half frozen among his furs. Robb had fallen asleep buzzed more times than he could count, enough times that he had learned that if he didn't have enough sense to cover up before slipping under, he was certain to regret it by the time that morning rolled around.

As usual, Robb woke to the first rays of sunshine that peaked through his window. He groaned and rolled over, away from the light and prayed to fall back under the the illusion of sleep. Try as he might, Robb eventually gave up the fight and pushed his furs away from his body. He let out a groan and raised to his feet, stumbling out of the room and to the bathroom that was just down the hall. He relieved himself before turning to his room. Washing his face, Robb freshened up before pulling on a fresh pair of clothes. His furs were next and he settled them before heading off to wake Nyssa if she wasn't already, Robb stopped dead in his tracks when Jinny approached him with a stern look. Nyssa wasn't feeling well? Concerned etched across his features and he readied himself to go down to the kitchen to get her a bowl of soup and perhaps some milk to hopefully settle her stomach. Jinny was right on his heels and defeated the will before Robb had taken more than a few steps.

Robb gave the woman a glare before setting his mind on another place. If Nyssa wasn't feeling well, there was no need to go prepare the horses for a ride. He strode through the Courtyard, ignoring the calls from his youngest siblings. He was in no mood to play their games, Jon had been the better older brother for such games. He was a future Lord, he needed to be able to focus on his duties to the North. His footsteps were purposeful, as they always were. Weaving through the crowd, the closer that he grew to the Godswood, Robb felt his muscles relax. The tension left his body and for the umpteenth time, he was thankful for the Godswood. It was a peaceful place that calmed him without fail whenever he needed it. It was where he would one day wed his Lady.

Catching sight of Nyssa, Robb's heart sank. His anger returned and he stormed around the last corner before his sight caught the tree. He cleared his throat, didn't say a word until Nyssa turned around. "M'Lady, I wasn't expecting you to be here. Shouldn't you be in your chambers resting if you're not feeling well?"

As expected the tree gave her no answers. No mysterious whispers or voices to guide Nyssa through what her next course of actions should be. So, she figured she'd settle for the one that Jinny had lain out. Don't get entangled with Robb Stark- because he was a storm that could swallow her whole. And as much as she wanted that, Nyssa knew that would only bring further trouble to the Starks. And with all the tension in the South- that was the last thing anyone needed. The face carved onto the tree stared blankly ahead as Nyssa craned her head up to study the ancient bark. Most people forgotten the Old Gods, few came out here. That's why she was positively sure the Old Gods were mocking her when Nyssa heard a throat clearing just behind her. Instantly she was on her feet, a startled expression furrowing her brows. Her features softened though when she noted Robb Stark, standing before her with a dark expression in his gaze.

"M'Lady, I wasn't expecting you to be here. Shouldn't you be in your chambers resting if you're not feeling well?" There was an edge behind his words; and Nyssa was very suddenly under the impression she'd done something to affront him. Had it been Jinny telling him she was sick? Or was it last night? Perhaps both she reasoned as he stood before her. "Robb..." She wasn't quite sure what to say to him. From her point of view, Nyssa thought that he was simply upset because she'd turned down a few acts of kindness and attempts for kinship. Beneath the Godswood her mind hesitantly thought of a decent excuse. She could always say she was flowering and simply hadn't felt well this morning. But another part of her just didn't want to lie to him. So she settled for a tiny, "I seemed to have drank a little too much last night. However, I feel slightly better." It was ironic really. She had let Jinny lie in her stead so not to be alone with Robb; yet here the two were. Alone at the Godswood. It almost hurt as she realized this was the place he'd one day marry Myrcella or the Tyrell princess.

Again it felt like another mockery of the Old Gods. She wasn't sure what to say, Robb was smart. Whether he believed her or not she didn't know. A shiver racked her body as they stood underneath the cold Northern winds; a light flurry of snow beginning to fall from the skies. Her breath clouded in front of her face like miniature clouds before dissipating in the air between the two. Silence had befallen the two, though not the comfortable kind that she was used to with him. The need to apologize finally bubbled over as she ducked her head; keeping her gaze on the snowy ground in front of her; red leaves from the Godswood scattered about. "My apologies if I've offended you Robb. I didn't mean to displease you, last night or today. That hasn't been my intention." She hoped it was enough to quell the rigidness to his eyes. Drawing her cloak tighter about her form she tried not to look too bothered by the cold.

She wanted to tell him how her parents had only agreed to send her off to Winterfell because she'd pleaded, rather than be married off sooner to William Florent, and move South. She would of liked to tell him that if Jinny, or anyone, thought that Nyssa's engagement was being compromised by her feelings for Robb Stark- she'd only go South sooner. But that wasn't his cross to bear; and Nyssa would simply wither away in mortification should Robb find out she'd housed a crush on him all these years. "It's beginning to snow..." Nyssa murmured, making a move to step past the Young Wolf, and back towards the path to Winterfell. Nyssa simply didn't trust herself. Two days around Robb Stark, and she was fighting the desires to have him embrace her like he had when he first greeted her, fuck the Florents and fuck duty. But that was just a child's wish. She was an adult, with adult responsibilities, as was Robb.

Robb wanted to grab Nyssa by her shoulders and demand why she was lying to him, the way her eyes flickered off to the side for just a moment was enough for him to know that she had lied. But grabbing her was not okay - he thought highly of all women in his life. To grab someone that he cared for so would have been sacrilege, he would have expected nothing less than a trip to the Wall ordered by his own father. The thought was enough to send a shiver down his spine. The fact that he had even considered it, no matter how fleeting the thought, was enough to make Robb want to send himself to the Wall. He was a Lord, he was expected to act well. Treat people with the same level of respect that he would desire to be afforded to him. A nod of his head, Robb drew in a sharp breath. "Very well. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better," Robb spoke softly, his breath whirling around his face as he spoke.

The role of the perfect gentleman fit Robb perfectly. When Nyssa pulled her cloak closer, he found himself tugging his own from his shoulders. He was far more used to the cold, it didn't bother him in the least despite the red tint to the tip of his nose and to his cheeks. "Here, it'll help to keep you warm," Robb spoke quietly, stepping forward so that he could wrap it around her shoulders. He was used to largely getting what he desired and when Nyssa went to step around him, he found himself holding out an arm to stop her. "Nyssa," the word was barely loud enough to be considered as a whisper.

Stepping backward so that he could get a proper look at Nyssa, Robb offered a smile. He lent down just low enough so that his eyes caught hers. "If you're feeling well enough, I would love to take you just a bit further. There's a marvelous view. You can see as far as your eye reaches," Robb spoke slowly. His eyes drifted down to Nyssa's lips for just a moment. Suddenly, he looked alarmed and found himself stepping backward so that he wasn't as close to her. He forced an awkward sort of smile to his lips and he crossed his wrists in front of his body.

Looking away, he settled his gaze on the Godswood so that he didn't have to witness her reaction for himself. "Of course you are free to go if you would prefer, m'lady. I just... I thought it would be nice since we didn't get the chance to go for a ride earlier," Robb nearly stumbled over his words. He was grateful that they didn't, he didn't want to make a fool of himself in front of any Lady but particularly in front of Nyssa of House Manderly.

"Very well. I am glad to hear that you are feeling better," She doubted he believed her, but still guilt embittered her tongue as he spoke. She disliked feeling as if she'd hurt him in some way. She didn't get the chance to linger over it though as he took a step closer to her, his fingers deftly undoing the buttons that kept his cloak snug on his shoulders. Nyssa was aware of her breath petering out of her lungs as Robb leaned closer, and secured his thick cloak from his shoulders, the soft fur around the shoulder's offering not only warmth but the unmistakable scent of the eldest Stark. She was sure her eyes were wide as her fingers hesitantly curled in the thick fur a small smile touching on her lips. "Here, it'll help to keep you warm," There was something in his gaze that stirred knots in her stomach. Nyssa should run. Far, far away and keep Robb at arms length. No matter how much it hurt her to do so.

Yet, as she made a move past him, he held his arm out and Nyssa stopped when he spoke her name, her gaze turning to rest on the Young Wolf. He took a step back, leaning down so that they were more eye to eye than Nyssa staring up at him and he looking down at her. "If you're feeling well enough, I would love to take you just a bit further. There's a marvelous view. You can see as far as your eye reaches," As he spoke she noted his eyes drift over her features, stopping at her lips. It took all her restraint not to lean forward, and if it was only once, kiss Robb. She didn't however, rather remained frozen in place at his offer; her brain sputtering to a halt. No. No, she should head back. Engage in behavior that was expected of her. Sit with Sansa, gossip of husbands and needlework until her fingers hurt, and absolutely under no circumstances venture past the Godswood with Robb Stark. "Of course you are free to go if you would prefer, m'lady. I just... I thought it would be nice since we didn't get the chance to go for a ride earlier,"

Of course, what went on in her mind, and what came out of her mouth were two entirely separate things. "I would enjoy that very much. Truly Robb." Was what slipped past her lips in a gentle manner. His smile was bright enough that Nyssa would swear that alone could warm her bones. "After you then Lord Stark." There was almost a teasing purr as she referred to him as Lord Stark. Even when he became King of the North one day- Nyssa would always see him as Robb. Robb had started off, keeping an even enough pace that Nyssa could keep up to him. It was after she'd nearly slipped on hidden roots, covered by snow or patches of icy soil, did Robb offer his arm with a small smile. Eventually she began to relax in his presence, her smiles not quite as guarded as they had been previously. She was almost feeling foolish for letting Jinny talk her out of his original offer for a ride. She'd of liked that.

Nyssa hardly felt the cold, between Robb's side brushing against her's as Nyssa carefully held his arm to avoid slipping over anything; and his thick cloak. "You're not cold are you? I'd hate for you to catch a cold on my account." She asked at one point, though Robb had promised he was alright. She supposed it made sense. He was born in these colder climates, they didn't seem to bother him as much as they effected Nyssa. Eventually after what was close to an hour, the last part of that an uphill trek the treeline broke away; revealing a ledge that true to Robb's word gave view of an expanse of lands; and Nyssa felt her breath stop for a moment. This was the furthest she'd been from the Godswood, as Catelyn and Ned warned the children of bandits and thieves in the woods and to never stray past that tree. "Robb... It's stunning." She finally murmured, awed as her eyes eagerly scanned the spectacular view. "How did you ever stumble across this place?" She asked, as eager eyes turned back to him.

Robb had considered offering Nyssa his arm at the very beginning of their journey but opted not to. He needed to put some distance between them, if he wanted any hope of leaving the two of them intact. Or, at least, their hearts intact. The way her own gaze faltered when his eyes landed on her lips made Robb wonder, for the briefest of moments, what was going on through Nyssa's mind. Did she return his feelings? No, of course not. She was a proper lady, she knew her place was to marry the Florent man her hand had been promised to. At the very most, being around Robb after so long was simply stirring up a desire to see her old childhood friend. Must be, that made the most sense. Right? Robb let his thoughts drift further than he should have until a shrill cry pierced the air. He turned just in time to throw his arms out and stop her fall. He grinned, pulling Nyssa back to her feet and offered his arm. Surely, they would catch some sort of talking to once they returned to Winterfell but for now, they could relax. They could enjoy each others' company as they once had.

A wave of his hand was all that Robb offered at the mention of how cold it was. Granted the longer he was without his cloak, the colder he grew but he knew he would last. The cold was nothing but a minor annoyance - a scratch that was just out of reach try as he might to bend. The rest of the short hike to the cliff was uneventful, quiet and peaceful. The cliff had been his place for as long as he could remember, when he needed to get away to clear his head from the going ons of Winterfell, this was where he visited. Peaceful, Robb didn't have a single worry that he would be interrupted. He never once had spotted another human, no thief, no bandit in sight. It took a long enough time for Robb to realize that his parents had lied to the children.

"After a lengthy discussion with Father, I was upset one day. Came to Godswood to clear my mind and I just kept walking. I only stopped when I found this," Robb explained quietly, motioning with his hand toward the magnificent view. One that he had never thought would be shared with another. Robb understood that his duty was to marry whatever Lady his hand was promised to and yet, the thought of showing any of the potential wives his place was enough to make his blood run cold. Perhaps that had been the first inkling that Robb had needed that proved he would not marry Myrcella or Margaery, that if he couldn't share a place that was so special to him with them, it wasn't something he could do.

"I've never brought anyone else here before," Robb admitted after a moment of silence. He stepped back with a smile on his face, hands behind his back as he watched her take in the view she was faced with. The smile that broke out on Nyssa face made his heart swell, made it ache so to be the source of that beautiful smile day in and day out. "Promise not to tell anyone about it?" Robb's voice was small as he looked to his feet - he didn't want just anyone waltzing around the cliff. He hoped she would understand.

She drew slightly closer to the edge, as close as she dared peering down the ledge. It was a steep drop, steep enough to make her back away a bit. "I've never brought anyone else here before." He admitted, and Nyssa's gaze slid back to his quiet surprise in her gaze. She figured that he'd of at least trekked up here with Jon or Theon. To know she was the only one who shared this view with Robb... The thought felt almost intimate to the young woman. It made her cheeks stain with a pastel pink. "Promise not to tell anyone about it?" For once the man's voice was small, and this time it was his gaze that flickered to his feet. It was understandable that he craved a spot for his own, and Nyssa was simply pleased he was willing to share this with her. "Your secret is safe with me. Not a word of this will be breathed to another soul." She promised, a playful somberness in her voice before turning back to study the sprawl of land before her. Self-consciously her fingers again came to curl in the thick fur of the cloak he'd given her, and she was content to simply watch the horizon.

This kind of landscape would be something she missed once her parents sent her off to the Florent House. But, she didn't want to think of this at the moment. It didn't sit right with Nyssa, standing next to Robb in a spot he clearly held dear, while thinking of her impending marriage. So she pushed that from her mind. "Do you ever wonder what you would be if you weren't the next Warden of the North?" She asked curiously. It was something Nyssa thought about often. She liked to think she'd of found her way into the merchant trade. They always seemed free to go where they pleased, associate with who they pleased, and bed and wed whom they pleased. Not to mention most of the traveled to all sorts of places that she only read about in books found in the dusty Manderly library. "I sometimes think of it." She admitted, her gaze somewhat distant. "Even if it's foolish." Jinny always said it was silly for someone such as herself to wish to have another life.

Politics and strategies and games were what she'd been dealt Jinny would say, and Nyssa wouldn't bring the subject up again. But there was a closeness she felt to Robb. Nyssa didn't think he'd laugh at her, or make fun of the woman for wondering what different paths her life could of taken. "I think if I had a choice, I'd be a merchant. And go places, and meet people." She offered in a somewhat sheepish tone. She didn't realize how close they were standing until she glanced up at him, to find his gaze somber and resting upon her. Gods it took effort to push her desires down, remind herself that Robb was her friend. Her childhood friend that likely viewed himself as her elder brother, or a protector of sorts. "But I should be thankful for what I have as Mother would say." As she spoke she took a tiny step away from him; giving them some space. Hear heart had forgotten how to beat properly and the only thing keeping her from acting in a manner surely she'd regret- was the fact that doing so would likely stir more trouble between the North and South.

They stayed there a little longer until Nyssa was positive that Jinny would of noticed she and Robb had gone missing. "We should head back before the entirety of Winterfell is sent out and this spot doesn't remain secluded." She suggested. Taking a few steps, not entirely sure of the way back she waited for Robb to take the lead. This time, she walked without the aid of his arm. It was difficult and he had to reach out to steady her a few times, but she was determined to make it back on her own. It was when they reached the Godswood they paused under the golden rays of light filtering through the trees. A few snowflakes had managed to cling to hair, and struggling for a moment Nyssa unbuttoned Robb's cloak, handing it out to him. "Thank you for lending me this. I may of froze otherwise." She should go back, but she didn't want to. She wanted to remain with Robb under the Godswood. "I shouldn't of cancelled our ride earlier." She finally admitted, soft and quiet. "I didn't mean to offend you earlier."

Robb stepped up to the very edge of the cliff, leaning just enough that he could watch the river than ran in the valley below. A gentle smile found its way onto his lips as he stepped backward, turning around so that he could face Nyssa. "Thank you. I truly appreciate it," he spoke softly, moving a bit closer to her. There was no need to shout, to potentially alert others to their presence, and so, he would use that excuse if she chose to ask why Robb was suddenly standing so close to her. The question sparked his smile to morph into a smirk, head tilting to the side as he studied her features. It was a subject that had sometimes come to be mind but he quickly pushed it away as a foolish fantasy - Robb had a duty to his family and to the North. He wouldn't want to leave, he enjoyed his role despite the trying times. The ones that made Robb escape to the cliff to gather his thoughts were few and far between, it had always been enough for him to remember his duty.

"I would have to agree. A merchant's life would be desirable. To be able to travel around Westeros and even to Essos if you so please..." Robb's gaze drifted far away, his eyes fixing on a spot far beyond where Nyssa stood. His eyes narrowed just a bit as he considered the thought. Robb was absolutely positive that there were merchants out there that would kill to be in his shoes, to be the heir to the North. It afforded him a great bit of wealth and influence, something he wasn't against. It had been a thought that crossed many minds, who wouldn't wonder what their life would be like if they had been born into a different life?

Robb took the hint and turned, leading Nyssa back through the woods. His smile remained, careful to keep his attention on her. He would catch her when she slipped, intent on not letting her dirty her dress. They would already catch an earful once they returned to Winterfell, if Nyssa dirtied would of her dresses, he was certain the talking to would be even harsher than it would already be. Robb's gaze drifted to her fingers as she undid his cloak. A source of pride welled inside his chest and for a moment, he wondered what it would be like if she wore it more than just today. It would have been something from his dreams - Nyssa would be his wife if so.

"Of course, m'lady. I couldn't possibly have you freeze to death!" Robb teased, tossing the cloak back around his shoulders. He buttoned it up, eyes focused at the task on hand. His gaze lingered for a moment before coming to a rest back on Nyssa's face. "No. You didn't offend me, you weren't feeling well, it wouldn't be right for me to be upset with you for something you can't control." Robb's voice was quiet. He drew in a deep breath, considered whether he should say the idea that was just on the tip of his tongue, "No matter... perhaps we can go tomorrow morning instead, if you're still interested in going?" He posed the question, hoping that he didn't sound as hopeful as he was feeling.

"How chivalrous." She teased, her eyes alight with amusement. His gaze drifted back to her's and Nyssa tried to convince herself the color on her cheeks was simply the cold. "No. You didn't offend me, you weren't feeling well, it wouldn't be right for me to be upset with you for something you can't control." She said nothing, simply smiled at this. She couldn't really help it if Jinny hadn't wanted her to go off on a ride with the striking Stark right? And what good would it do to tell him that her handmaiden was anxious that one ride with Robb Stark and Nyssa wouldn't be fit to be wed in the coming months. No, that was something best kept to herself. It was his deep breath that alerted Nyssa to the fact he was going to speak, so rather hurry down the path of the Godswood and back to Winterfell's walls she remained where she stood. "No matter... Perhaps we can go tomorrow morning instead, if you're still interested in going?" He spoke, and the offer hung frozen in the air between them.

She shouldn't say yes. Nyssa should excuse herself, hurry back to Winterfell and avoid spending more time alone with Robb Stark. Even now as they stood beneath the Godswood in the sight of the old gods, Nyssa could feel her heartbeat working overtime; it's frantic beat pulsing in her ears. There was a piece of her heart that had not stopped caring for him over these years- and Nyssa wondered if it ever would. She wondered that if she'd always look at the William Florent and wish desperately it was Robb Stark. "Yes. I'll go with you." The agreement fell from her lips before she could really stop it. It would be good wouldn't it? To spend as much time with him as she could, to get her feelings for him out of her system? That was the reason she was agreeing... Or so Nyssa told herself. "We should go earlier in the morning." Nyssa suggested, a bit of guilt in her voice. Jinny tended to sleep until the end of ages. And if they left while she was still asleep- well Jinny couldn't be concerned. And if she wasn't concerned... She couldn't write to Nyssa's parents.

Then there would be no need for more baseless panic in the Manderly household. "Then it's settled. I'll see you in the morning M'lord. Until then." Nyssa knew she needed to get back. As much as she wanted to remain beneath the Godswood with Robb, she couldn't. As weary as Jinny was of Gods and their places of worship, she would eventually come searching for Nyssa. Dipping her head, Nyssa turned and this time without waiting headed back to Winterfell. It would be suspicious to anyone should Nyssa have gone out to the Godswood alone, and returned with Robb. The last thing she needed were whispers and rumors about what Nyssa Manderly and Robb Stark were doing all alone in the woods together. The walk back was filled with Nyssa anxiously turning through her thoughts. What was wrong with her? She was a lady- a proper one at that. She shouldn't be harboring feelings for a childhood love when she was to be married. A move that could potentially soothe the relations between the South and the North.

So why was she fawning over Robb Stark? The young Manderly simply grit her teeth. Chasing after the Young Wolf wouldn't bring about anything good. Her head knew this, but heart didn't care. She was troubled as she drew into the yards of Winterfell, ignoring Theon's cheerful greeting. She barely noted as Jon chased about Arya and Rickon. Instead she hurried back to the warmth of Winterfell, heaving off a sigh. Nyssa, not in the mood to socialize with anyone, instead headed to her room. Jinny was there, putting away dresses and whatnot; though the old woman's gaze narrowed slightly. "Had a nice conversations with the Gods then did you?" The Manderly woman said nothing as she undid her cloak, putting over the back of her chair as she sat down intent to write. "What took you so long? You're not usually the pious type." She couldn't exactly say she was off exploring the woods with Robb, so Nyssa shrugged. "House Manderly isn't usually under attack. My head was troubled." Jinny didn't press her further, rather went back to putting away Nyssa's clothing. It was a quiet finish to the afternoon. She had spent a good portion of it with Robb, though that was her secret. This afternoon had only fueled Nyssa's desire to spend more time with the eldest son of the Stark's. She could scarcely wait until the morning.

Remaining behind because he knew it was a better decision, Robb remained behind, lingering under the Godswood. He lowered himself to his knees, bowed his head as he prayed silently to the Old Gods. They needed to give him a new strength for he knew he was a strong warrior, a strong ruler, but strong enough to ignore his own desires when it came to a Lady from another house? He drew in a deep breath, closed his eyes, and brought his head back up so that when he reopened his eyes, he was looking straight up at the tree. His mind was telling him how horrible of an idea it was to go on a ride with her because that only meant more time alone but deep down, his heart was telling him to ignore his feelings would be an even bigger sin than to act upon them. What that meant for the entire situation, Robb didn't know. Maybe didn't even want to know. Sighing, Robb moved to his feet and turned to make the trek back to Winterfell in silence.

The day was relatively uneventful, save for when he stepped into the courtyard and Jon called out to him a challenge of sorts. With Theon standing beside Jon with a shit eating grin, Robb would have never dreamt of denying Jon a spar. He stepped off to the side, removed his cloak, the sword that hung at his hip, and his outermost coat. Robb pulled his sword free from its' sheath. He flashed a grin as he spun around, forcing his shoulders to relax. Bringing his sword up to block a swipe from Jon, Robb let out a laugh. "That's all you have, Snow? You're going to have to try harder," Robb teased, stepping forward to take a swing of his own when their swords clinked together.

The spar went on for a good half hour before Ned Stark appeared, shaking his head at his sons. "Catelyn would have a heart attack if she knew what you two were doing," he called over the sounds of the sword fighting. When the fighting paused long enough that the siblings could look at their father, Ned gave a slight smirk before it disappeared. "Finish up and get ready for supper." With that, Ned turned and walked away from them, a sense of pride welling up inside of his chest.
The next morning arrived and Robb was woken just before dawn. He had asked a servant to wake him and so, he stood, hurriedly pulling on the clothes that he had set out the night before. Robb suspected that Nyssa wouldn't want to leave much later than they already were. Once he was dressed, he sent his sword to be taken down to the stables where the horses were readied. His sword would make too much noise as he walked through the halls and disturbing any unwanted witnesses wasn't something he was too keen on. Soon, Robb reached Nyssa's quarters and gave a quiet knock at the door, hoping it was loud enough to wake her because he didn't want to enter her room and alarm her upon wakening.

She was awake before the knock came at her door. She had fallen asleep rather early that night, not only in perpetration for waking early- but simply the hike with Robb had tired her out. Nyssa had woken while it was still dark outside, and silently moved through her room. It wasn't exactly her most beautiful outfit, but it was practical when she pulled out a pair of male breeches and shirt, picking out a heavy cloak so she wouldn't grow cold. Nyssa had pulled her hair back and finished braiding it when a few quiet knocks sounded at her door. Robb. At once her gaze turned to Jinny, who was still sleeping soundly, her hoarse snores filling the quiet of the room. "Sleep well." Nyssa murmured to her handmaiden with an impish grin before hurrying to the door and opening it. Sure enough the dark-haired Stark stood in front of her; his sapphire gaze sharp and alert even at this early hour. The young Manderly quietly stepped out, closing the door to her chambers behind her. Her breeches clung to her legs, leaving little of her curves to imagination, though the shirt was a little loose. They were both thick enough that she should remain warm on their ride. "Shall we then?"

And like that the two were setting off together unseen to the rest of Winterfell. It was habit that she flicked the hood of her cloak up, obscuring her face to any sort of prying eyes. Content enough, Nyssa was, to follow Robb out into the dark early morning, the cold air biting at any exposed skin though she didn't mind. It jarred Nyssa into a more heightened state of alertness, as they reached the stable. Already there were a pair of horses ready for them and the Manderly was drawn to a pretty golden colored horse with tiny white tickmarks on her coat. While Robb fetched his sword, Nyssa gently stroked the creatures soft nose, a small smile on her lips. Ever since she learned how to ride, Nyssa had grown to like horses. Upon hearing Robb returning, Nyssa swung herself up into the saddle of the golden mare, and slowly exited the stables. "Where did you want to go? Main roads, or woods?" Nyssa was fine with either. Had it been anyone other than Robb, she'd of asked to remain on the main roads. Less of a chance to run into wild beasts or bandits. But with the Young Wolf by her side she felt plenty safe. The small dagger strapped to her thigh also helped ease her fears of beasts or bandits.

As they set out the first rosy fingers of dawn began to break the sky, giving enough of an illumination that they didn't need to carry torches. The pinkish first rays of dawn basked the North in a beautiful glow, and Nyssa for once felt at peace. Their horses steps were slow and measured, at least until they passed the gates. Then the pace increased, as the chances of anyone hearing hooves strike against the yard of Winterfell decreased. "I think the North has the prettiest mornings." Nyssa spoke wistfully after she felt they'd gotten far enough away from Winterfell to speak normally. Drawing her horse alongside the eldest Stark's she threw a glance behind her shoulder. Sure that no one was following her, the girl began to relax. They had settled for riding through one of the wooded paths, and thankfully the skies remained free of snow. Robb's sword rattled against his hip, though was barely audible as creatures of the woods became alive, starting their day and calling back and forth to one another. The path had become narrow, so Nyssa had pulled her horse back so it was slightly behind Robb, though close enough they could still converse easily.

Out here, they were far enough from Winterfell and those who would disapprove of their early morning ride, that Nyssa's guilt began to evaporate. She had nothing to feel guilty about she told herself with a fierce conviction. "I've missed being able to ride in the woods. Since my House began fighting with House Forrester, it's been difficult to get out beyond the Manderly walls." Nyssa felt a pang of homesickness, though shook it off. She'd enjoy her time at Winterfell, especially with Robb. Sneaking glances at him, Nyssa wondered- had he missed her like she missed him over the years? She didn't dare ask, because she didn't want to know. No, she couldn't know. Because if he had, then she'd only have one less reason to keep quiet on her feelings for him. And if he didn't... That'd hurt just as bad as if he did. So, she settled on a safer topic of discussion. Politics. "How are you dealing with the tensions between us and the South?" That was a popular discussion between all the houses now. "Your father is still good friends with King Robert, correct?"
