Eugene bit back harsher words. He sensed he had struck a nerve. A bad idea, logically speaking. When Lily returned, he said nothing of Anthony, only smiling at her question. "Ah, just our hobbies and interests. We have none that are similar, unfortunately." Easy enough. The lunch was quick, and the rest of the day was just as fast. Eugene said nothing of Anthony to her until they returned home.

The moment they stepped through the door, the moment it shut, Eugene stopped short and fixed the back of Lily a rather stern look. "Lily." Her name was a bell that rang once. It seemed so ordering and commanding but at the same time, innocently pure, coming from his lips. "Lily look at me." He took a step to her. It was not her fault if she did not know, but if she did and hid it from her... Humans were cunning creatures. Sinful too. Eugene had faith she was innocent of this crime but still-

"Why are you hanging around a demon?"

Lily was pulling her jacket off and setting her things down as they walked into the apartment again. Though once Eugene started to speak, it immediately grabbed her attention. There was something in his voice that made it clear that nothing was more important than what he was going to say. But the words that came out of Eugene's mouth did not make any sense to her. Lily's eyebrows furrowed together for a moment, her head tilted to the side. "I am not?" She said, confusion pouring from her lips.

She pulled off her jacket the rest of the way and set it down at the table besides the door. "I can not tell if you are being serious or not Eugene. Was there someone you do not like? I did not see any demons?" In Lily's mind, it would be obvious if there was a demon nearby. After all, she was attacked by one just a while ago with him. It was a horrifying monster. So, how would she not notice if there was one around. Besides, did they not just cause evil? Surely, she would realize if someone was terrorizing others.

"Eugene, I know Steve from 3rd floor is not very nice, but I would not exactly call him a demon."

["Steve from 3rd floor" lmfao I LAUGHING SM]

Eugene blinked at her. Steve? A moment of confusion passed over his face but it quickly ebbed away. "No, I mean Anthony." He gave a small 'tsk' and looked to the side before returning his gaze to her eyes. "He's a demon. Anthony is a demon. Understand this, Lily, I cannot be wrong."

He took a small pause letting her process that information. He wondered what it was like, having a total stranger who claimed to be an angel calling a friend you had know for years, a demon. He expected denial.

"I know. He doesn't look like one. But I dont look like an Angel either. Demons dont have to be ugly and terrifying and blowing up cars. They survived this long because they become one with society. They are masters of deception. But angels will always see. Just as they will see us. He knows what I am. And I know what he is."

(I KNOW. I was laughing as I typed that out!)

Lily hesistated for a moment as she glanced over at Eugene. She shook her head a little though the more that Eugene spoke, the more she was worried that he was right. There was no doubt in her mind that Eugene was an angel, espcially after what he had seen. She believed him and there was something so honest and real about him that it made no sense to doubt him. But her friend? A demon?

"But...Anthony has always been so kind to me." Lily mumbled as the color started to drain from her face. "Eugene, he is one of my best friends. Anthony would never...I- Are you sure that you aren't wrong? Is there no chance that you are mistaken?" Once Eugene had assured Lily that he was postive, Lily let out a long sigh and pressed her head into her hand.

Lily slowly walked over to the couch and fell into it, deflating a bit as she did so. Her mind now stuck on what to do about Anthony. "Is it possible for some demons to be good? To have true intentions? Please Eugene, give me something. He has always been so kind. He has never harmed me, nor have I seen him do so to anyone else." Lily looked up at him in desperation.

Eugene watched her sink onto the couch and for a moment, he felt a strong pang of pity. The look on her face tugged on his heart. If he could, he would turn that demon into the purest person but alas it was not in his power. It was not in any angel’s power.
“I have never met a kind demon.” He said after a moment of thought. In this moment, phrasing was crucial. He had never expected to fall from heaven for no reason either, he thought it impossible that a justice system he had thought fair and true would suddenly turn on him and cast him out. Nothing was impossible it seems. Yet, he also never met a kind demon. Those two words simply didn’t go together. “A demon is born of sin. Sin is evil. There is no good sin. And as such, there cannot be a good demon. He may display niceness on the front, using deception to win your trust and heart, but even if goodness is what he attempts to portray and do, demons do not, can not, understand goodness. At their roots, their carnal desires, they seek every sin possible. It is the only way for them. No matter what they try.”

He tried to keep his voice soft as he knelt in front of Lily, placing a hand on her knee and peering up at her with concern. After a moment, he quietly added. “But it seems there can always be an exception.” Now this was both hope for her and an experience for him. He did not want to think of it, he did not want to accept it- no. Eugene knew, the angel side in him did not wan to accept it. The pride, the ego that came with that title. A true angel would try understanding, reasoning, not do what angels had done for the past few centuries. It was not sin, it was a certain something, a certain coldness. He lowered his eyes to the floor in thought, remaining crouched in front of Lily, thumb gently rubbing circles on her knee.

A small twang of hope pierced into Lily's sinking heart. It was easy to tell that Eugene did not believe that was the case, but she knew. Even if Eugene was accurate in his accusation and his explanation of demons, Lily knew Anthony. He had always protected her, helped her, and been a true friend since the moment they met. And he had never asked for anything in return but friendship. To ignore their past did not sit well with Lily. Though, being friends with a demon did not sit well with her either.

Reaching down, Lily pressed her hand lightly against Eugene's before wrapping her fingers around it. "Thank you." Lily whispered. Her eyes were now downcast as Lily tried to think it all through. It had been difficult enough to wrap her mind around having an angel in her home. Though now that there was a possibility her friend was a demon - it was enough to send Lily into a tizzy. And now Lily was ready to question her own sanity.

After a moment of thought, Lily slid Eugene's hand off of her knee and moved onto her feet. "I am going to go for a walk, to think about everything." Heading back to the door, Lily grabbed onto her jacket. "Don't worry about making me dinner, I'll probably be gone for a while."
