Kieran sighed as he walked into Nick’s house. He was told to meet him there and he really didn’t want to know what Nick had planned. All he said was that he needed that favor. He looked over as Nick and his sister came down the stairs. He had never really liked Naia because she was a halfling and everyone knew that they were no good. They had to feed off of their own kind. What kind of creature did that? Kieran looked at Nick, “Why exactly did you drag me here?” He asked. He glared as he went on to talk about how they needed to help Naia. “Dude no offense but you are lucky that they didn’t already slaughter her.” He said. “You know we could get in a lot of trouble for even helping her right?” He asked. He could tell that his friend was really serious about this though and he didn’t want him to think that he was going back on his word. “I will help, but I’m not going to be happy about it.” He said. “Where do we start?” He asked. He had no idea what he was going to do or how they were going to even help Naia. “Don’t try anything funny.” He said, looking at Naia. He had grown up being told that he could never trust a halfling.
Nova walked through the woods, seeing the place that she heard so many people talking about. She had heard about a place where vampire could live without being in fear constantly. She walked and came out into the clearing frowning when she was met by a group of guards, “Well hello boys.” She said, smiling. “Care to escort me in?” She asked. She frowned as the one grabbed her arm and drug her in. She rolled her eyes as he called for some guys name Nick and Kieran. “We have an outside.” The man said. Nova looked at them, “Well that’s not a very nice thing to call me.” She said, pulling her arm away from them. “I was looking for this place I didn’t just stumble across it.” She said, looking at the guys and the girl in front of them. “You have a bigger problem though. That one is a human. I can smell it.” She said, staring at the girl. She turned her attention back to the guys in front of her when the one seemed to get defensive. “Relax sweetheart I don’t care about her. I’m here to keep myself alive. Those vampire hunters are getting nasty.” She explained.

    Naia Munroe | Halfling
    Image

It's been two days since Naia Munroe's world had been flipped upside down. It had been two days since the impossible stranger who called himself her brother, came knocking at her mother's door in Colorado. It had been two-days since Mallory Munroe and Nick Jackson sat the svelte blonde down, and told her the truth. Who Nick and Naia's father was. What he had been, and what Nick was. A vampire. And Naia was half of one. It had been revealed to Naia that she was getting to the age where soon, her Change would trigger, and it was not going to be an easy affair. Nick had explained how their species lived in the shadows, governed by a mysterious council. A council that had banned half-bloods, sanctioning the slaughter of half-bloods; and the mortals and vampires who conceived them. That if they ever located Naia would certainly mean death. But Nick wasn't done there. He told Naia that half-bloods were only able to survive off regular blood for so long. Once their body stopped rejecting regular blood, the halfling would die. Unless, the halfling could find their soulmate. Either way, Nick had told her, the only shot that Naia had at living to see her twentith birthday was to come back to the small community of vampires he was living among. It wouldn't be a safe place for Naia, though nowhere really was.

Half-bloods were typically seen as an abomination by full-blooded vampires. Especially the older and more powerful ones. The council that had decreed the half-bloods illegal had full-blooded vampires who hunted down the lesser halflings. While Nick's community was more liberal, it still wasn't entirely safe for Naia. Especially once her half-blooded scent got stronger. For the time being, Nick assured the blonde halfling that she still mostly smelled human. They could likely pass her off as a feeder for the time being. So without much choice, Naia had agreed to go back with him. She and Mallory had bid one another a tearful goodbye, and Naia had walked out of the only home she knew; heart heavy and damned near positive that she wouldn't live long enough to see it again. The odds were certainly bleak, not in her favor. The day and a half trip back to Nick's community was filled with Nick's somewhat anxious rambling, though Naia herself felt too dazed to really remember much of the ride. The moment the duo had gotten back to Nick's house, he had suggested they both get some sleep. The sun was coming up and the faster Naia transitioned to sleeping during the day, the less stress it would be on her body once the change officially started.

Currently however, the little blonde was finishing getting dressed. Nick had woken her up about an hour ago and told her he was expecting someone over. Someone who would help protect her and that the golden-haired halfling should get up and ready to meet him. So she had done as she was told, taking a quick shower and unpacking the first outfit pulled from her suitcase. Just as she finished adjusting the hem of the shirt, Naia heard the door open rather loudly downstairs. Curiously the halfling makes sure to keep her footsteps quiet as she exits her room, finding Nick already ahead of her on the stairs. In an almost cautious sense she too makes her way onto the stairs and at the bottom finds an imposing figure. He was covered in tattoos, though that wasn't what made Naia feel... intimidated by the stranger. No it was the way his hazel gaze, sharp and cold, flickered to the petite half-blood who was somewhat hidden behind Nick's figure. It was the way they narrowed with disgust, the way she noted his lip curl ever so slightly that made the girl want to melt into the floor just to escape. She's aware her breathing has slightly hitched, and her hands clenched into fists as he spoke addressing only Nick at first.

The male, Nick referred to him as Kieran, his words were cruel and cold. Kieran attempted to convince Naia's brother to not help her. That they could get in trouble. When Nick rebuffs Kieran however, the willowy halfling sighs in relief. She's half a mind to lecture the tattooed vampire about manners; though thinks better of it when she notes his steely gaze back on her. “Don’t try anything funny.” His voice is flat as Kieran finally addresses Naia. "Don't be an asshole and I'll see what I can do." The words are soft, muttered under her breath as the girl crosses her arms. They're also far more brave and bold than how Naia normally spoke. What was Nick thinking? This vampire seemed far more likely to turn Naia over rather than protect her. Or at least wouldn't be all that remorseful if something did happen.

Honestly, he's exhausted. Nick had always known that one day he'd have to go and get his baby sister. Drag her into this dark world that ran crimson with blood; that would call for Naia's blood should it find out she exist without finding her mate. But still, actually having to go and get her, to explain to her everything, and try to piece up a plan that wouldn't end with themselves killed was one of those things that was easier said than done. Nick knew that if he could keep his baby sister alive until they found her soulmate; she would live a long and happy life. Once a half-blood was claimed, the council recognized them as a vampire's property. They were still socially outcasted, but they were not allowed to be touched by the halfling hunters the council employed. And that was all well and good, but they still had to keep Naia alive and find the guy. And even more frustratingly? That's not his biggest concern at the moment. No, that honor went to Kieran Alden; one of those halfling hunters.

It had been years and years ago that Nick and Kieran met. Kieran had let some of the human's vampire hunters get the drop on him. Nearly staked him, though Nick had intervened. Kieran had pledged a favor to Nick; and the vampire had been saving it for this moment. To rope the skilled hunter into becoming his sister's personal bodyguard until she was safe and in the clear. So when the knock came at the door, Nick was ready to answer it. He had sprung halfway down the stairs to find Kieran already letting himself in, and behind him his delicate hearing can pick up Naia's footsteps. "Hey Kieran. Thanks for coming" The greeting is nervous, and Nick can feel the palm of his hands grow clammy. He needed Kieran to agree to protect Naia. That was the only way to give his sister half a fighting chance. “Why exactly did you drag me here?” As the tattooed vampire speaks, Nick notes the way his gaze slides to Naia's half-hidden figure behind Nick. The disdain is obvious, though Nick doesn't let that dissuade him as he answers the other male. "I dragged you here because all those years ago I saved your life. You promised me a favor, and I'm cashing in." Pausing, Nick steps to the side giving Kieran and Naia a better look at one another.

"This is my sister, Naia. Well more technically my father's daughter. Her mother is a human, as I'm sure you guessed. I need you to protect her until I can find her mate and they become Bonded." The explanation is quiet, somber and Nick can't help hold his breath as Kieran appears to mull it over. “I will help, but I’m not going to be happy about it.” The confirmation comes after a quiet minute that felt like an hour to Nick. Exhaling with relief he shoots his friend a quiet look of gratitude. "Thank you Kieran." Before Nick can start explaining his plan, three swift knocks come at the front door. Tensing, the two males shoot each other a quiet look though before either can move the door opens revealing some of the guards of the community. "Thomas and Dean told us to get you. There's an outsider at the gates. Says she wants to settle into the community. They want you to come." The guards explain, their gazes falling curiously upon the eldest male's guests. "Be right there." Pausing he fixes Kieran and Naia with a hard look before ordering, "You two should come as well. Just to be safe." Having those two tag along where Nick could keep an eye on them felt better than leaving them here alone. The elder brother didn't quite trust Kieran not to be cruel towards Naia, or Naia not to try to take off.

Soon enough the small group is arriving to the community's gates where an unfamiliar figure stood. Beneath the night sky the silver light illuminated her dark hair casting her in a pretty glow. "We have an outside." Thomas informed once the group drew close enough. "Well that's not a very nice thing to call me." The girl drawls, and Nick can't help the little smile. She didn't seem all that dangerous he thought as his gaze slowly raked her over. All vampires were a threat sure, but she'd have to be a special kind of idiot to get into a fight where she was clearly outnumbered. "I agree with her." Nick states, stepping forward an easy-going smile touching his lips. "Do you have a name?" As she talks the male nods, though he tenses up when she points out his sister's half-blooded status. Thankfully it wasn't news to any of the vampires present. Rather quickly noting Nick's tension, the vampire assures she has no interest in Naia, just that she wanted to escape the vampire hunters. For a long minute Nick says nothing, crossing his arms and mulling it over. "Let her in." Nick says finally. "You can stay with me and my sister for the time being. Until you find your own place around the community. If you'd like." The offer hangs in the air between them. If this vampire knew his sister was a half-blood, Nick would rather have them close where he could keep an eye on her. At least until he knew she could be trusted.

Kieran stood there next to Naia with his arms crossed as he listened to Nick talk to the girl that called herself Nova. He looked at Naia out of the corner of his eye, watching her. His dad would be pissed if he knew that he was helping this girl. “Alright get out of here.” He said to the guards, watching as they all separate. “Let’s go back to your house Nick so we can get everything settled. We have a new partner in this.” He said, looking at the girl next to him. He walked with them, Naia by his side til they got to the house. He walked in, shutting the door. “Nick what exactly is your plan to find her a mate?” He asked. “You just going to have her taste a few guys?” He asked. He looked at the girl and sighed. He hated that this was going to get them into trouble. Kieren had grown up, knowing that everything he was doing in the moment was really wrong. “Does she even know anything about us?” He asked. “Do you?” He asked, looking at her finally. “Until now you thought you were a normal blood bag didn’t you?” He asked.

Kieran could hear her heart racing and he knew that he was freaking her out. “You don’t know what you are about to get yourself into.” He said. He moved away from them and sat down in the chair. “I guess I will stay for tonight just til everything calms down. I have to return back to my house tomorrow though.” He explained. He looked at Naia, “Nick and Nova can watch you while I’m not here. Do not leave this house without an escort. Your human bones are easy to crush.” He said. He leaned back against his chair, “I’m getting hungry.” He said. He texted one of the guards to bring them a few humans that they had.
Nova looked at the guy when he asked her name, “My name is Nova.” She said. “And you are?” She asked. She smiled when she said his name was Nick. She nodded when he mentioned staying with him, “How nice of you. I would love that.” She said. She looked at the meaner guy of the two when he ordered the guards to leave. She walked with Nick til they go to the house. She walked in and set her bag down, listening to Kieran telling the human girl everything. She sighed when she heard the girls heart beating. She looked at Kieran when he mentioned getting food. “I like this place already. I don’t have to hunt for my food.” She said. She looked at Naia, seeing the girl looked at her afraid. “Don’t worry love you aren’t my type.” She teased her. She got up and looked around the living room. “Where will I be sleeping?” She asked Nick. He seemed to be the nicer of the two guys. She couldn’t help but notice how gorgeous he was. She never got romantically involved with guys though. The idea of spending an eternity with a man freaked her out. Though she didn’t mind having some fun. She smiled when he said he would show her. She walked up with him to the bedroom and looked at him. “So if you don’t really know her then why are you helping her?” She asked after he closed the door. She didn’t know why someone would go out of there way to help a half breed. “You must be a really nice guy to be doing that.” She said. Nova thought for a moment, “Thank you for letting me stay here.” She added.
