Artemis flinched, tears beginning to fall down her face as she walked out the house with her brother.

Zack rubbed his face, knowing he would need to call the family lawyer to help his parents, so that’s what he did. He paced back and forth as he talked on the phone with the lawyer, explaining to him what had happened. He told Zack that things didn’t sound good, but that he would do his best to help his parents.

Artemis sat with her brother at the police station, listening to his side of the story, quietly crying as she did. Her brother had never talked to her about what had happened before.

Zack decided to call Matt after he got off the phone with the lawyer, unable to help it as tears began to form in his eyes. He was scared. He didn’t want to lose his parents. What if they went to jail?

“Hey,” Matt greeted. “What’s going on at your house dude?”

“The cops took my parents,” Zack sobbed into the phone, unable to hold back his tears anymore. Zack had always had the fear of being alone, so this was his worst nightmare.

Matt frowned. “Where are you,” Matt asked. “I’ll come grab you.”

“I’m at home,” Zack said, sniffling as he wiped his eyes.

“I’ll come get you,” Matt stated. “Put a bag together.”

“Okay,” Zack mumbled. “Thank you.” He hung up and went up to his room, packing a bag. He was so thankful for Matt.

Matt drove over to Zack’s house, calling Artemis on the way there to hear from her what had happened.

When Matt arrived at Zack’s house, he walked outside and got in his friend’s car, sending a text to both Zina, and his little brother Matt to let them know what was going on with their parents. He didn’t want them to come home to an empty house that night and freak out.

“Let them know they’re welcome at my house too,” Matt stated. He knew without Zack even saying anything that he was texting his siblings.

Zack looked up at Matt. “Are you sure?” he asked. “It’s already enough that I’m coming over, I don’t want all of us to intrude.”

“We have enough room Zack,” Matt insisted. “And I know you’ll worry if they stay in the house alone with each other.”

Zack nodded. “Yeah,” he mumbled, managing a small chuckle. “They’ll probably end up killing each other if they do.” He looked over at him. “Thank you, Matt.”

“It’s not a big deal so don’t thank me,” Matt mumbled. “You would do the same for me.”

Zack nodded his head. Once they got to Matt’s house, he walked inside, thanking the Sanders’ for letting him stay at their house before he started thinking about what he was going to do. “I believe my dad,” he said. “Why would he lie about this?”

“I called Artemis to hear her side of things,” Matt admitted. “She said her brother’s in the hospital for malnutrition.” The werewolf had never really liked Zack’s parents and he wished Zack wasn’t so blind to how evil they really were. “If he has eaten all the food why would they say that?”

“I don’t know,” Zack hissed, frowning at his sudden loss in temper. “Sorry. Why else would he be in my basement? It makes no sense.”
