Summer to Remember

It was finally summer, not the first day, but the start of June. Talia was excited to be able to spend these three months off with her friends from college. That was until her parents dropped the bombshell last night.

“Seriously?! Why?!” Talia and her older brother Dylan exclaimed at the same time upon hearing the news.

Their parents were going to Greece for a summer honeymoon and they didn’t trust Talia alone at the house for three months and since Dylan and his band were going on a three month tour, their parents told him either take his sister with him or he couldn’t go.

“I can’t just not go, ma. They need me.” Dylan said.

“And we understand that but your sister is too young to stay home by herself.”

“I’m nineteen Mom. I’m not a child.” Talia said.

“You act like one.” Dylan muttered.

“Mami! This is why I don’t want to hang out with him!” Talia said.

“Both of you stop. Dylan, either your sister goes or you both stay here this summer.” Their Mom said. “End of discussion.”

So here Talia was, standing outside and waiting for her brother’s tour bus of his friends and band mates to pick them up. It’s not that Talia didn’t enjoy their company, it was just that they hit on her constantly.

“I told them, so they know.” Dylan said.

“Lovely.” Talia said, flicking the ashes of her cigarette.

“I’m not happy about it either but just try to stay out of trouble. I’m not going to babysit you this whole tour.” Dylan said as the tour bus came into view.

“Noted.” Talia mumbled. It hurt a little bit because her and Dylan used to be close but she was a grown woman and didn’t need a babysitter and they both knew that.

George watched out the window as the bus pulled up infront of Dylan’s house. He couldn’t believe it when Dylan said that Talia was coming with them. Seeing the two standing outside their house, he could tell that neither one was the least bit happy about the situation.

When the bus stopped, George decided to get up and see if Talia needed help with her bag. Walking off the bus, he looked at her.

“Hey Talia, let me help put your stuff on the bus,” he smiled, hoping that maybe he could help put her in a better mood.

Talia instantly got happy when she saw George. “Hi George, thank you.” She said. “Oh God, here we go.” Dylan sighed. It was no secret that his sister had a crush on George, he knew that, but whether George felt the same was up for debate.

Talia rolled her eyes at her brother’s comment before following George onto the bus. It had been a while since she seen any of the guys so she wouldnt be surprised if they started hitting on her right away.

George smiled as he took her bags and put them on the bus. He rolled his eyes at Dylan’s comment. He had always thought Talia was beautiful, but he wasn’t sure about over stepping the boundary since she was Dylan’s little sister.

Once they were both on and ready, the bus started moving again. He took a seat on the couch, knowing it wouldn’t be too long before Talia was getting hit on again. He figured he would leave the spot beside him open for her, “Talia, you can sit by me if you want.” He’d keep the others from bugging her.

Dylan headed to the back to put his bag in his bunk. Talia smiled and sat down beside George. “So how’s life? How are things between you and Carly?” She asked.

The last time she had spoken to or seen George he was dating a girl named Carly. She looked up as the rest of the guys came into front and rolled her eyes as they noticed her.

“Damn Talia, it’s been a while.” Jordon said. Talia sighed, “hello Jordon.” She said, without looking at him.

“Well, we actually broke up a month or so ago,” George told her, they had broken up because Carly couldn’t handle him being on tour all the time.

He couldn’t help rolling his eyes when he heard Jordon start flirting with Talia. “That’s gotta be a new record or something, not even ten minutes on the bus and Jordon’s already hitting on you,” George teased, he knew it had to be annoying for Talia to deal with the guys flirting with her.

“Yep, I can usually make it to twenty minutes before anyone notices me but I guess not.” Talia said. Jordon rolled his eyes now, “I’m surprised George isn’t flirting with you.” He said. “I’m not, he actually cares how I’m doing.” Talia said.

“I really do,” George laughed softly. He’d always cared about how Talia was doing, ever since he’d met Dylan and Talia. He looked over at her as they sat together, “So, have you been?” He asked her.

“Well, I was planning on spending my summer with my friends from college but my parents decided to go to Greece at the last minute for vacation so Dylan gets to babysit me now.” Talia said. “In general though I’ve been okay.” She added.

“Are you still dating that one dude you were booking up with the last time you graced us with your presence?” Jorel asked.

“If you mean, Damien, no. We broke up.” Talia said. “What happened?” Danny asked, grabbing a beer out of the fridge. Talia sighed. “We got into a fight one day, he put his hands on me and Dylan broke his jaw.” She shrugged.

“Well good on your part Dylan,” George said, he couldn’t believe a guy had the nerve to put his hands on Talia. If he had been there, he probably wouldn’t have been able to control it.

He looked at Talia, “You’re better off without him, and I’m sure you’ll find a better guy than that.”

“Man, He’s lucky that was all I was able to do. I got jail time for it but he’s lucky.” Dylan said, getting out a baggy of weed. “If I see him anytime soon I’ll probably finish beating his ass if anyone wants to join.” He added.

“Hell yeah.” Jordon said. Talia smiled, even though her and Dylan had their moments, he still looked out for her. “I appreciate it but you guys don’t need to go to jail over that” Talia said.

George shrugged slightly, “In all honesty, the only way we’d go to jail is if we got caught.” He added, knowing full well that they would have no problem doing a little jail time.

“But you’re okay here with us, so we won’t have to worry,” George smiled at her.

“Even if he did show up when you’re here, we got you.” Jorel said, opening his beer.

Talia smiled, “Thanks guys.” She said as she got up to grab a bottle of water. She wondered if Damien would show up. There was a chance, he did like her brother’s band, he just didn’t like her brother.

“He would have to be seriously stupid if he shows up at one of our shows,” George said, knowing that if he even thought about showing his face George and the rest of the guys would be after him.

Talia nodded, “he did buy tickets for the LA show and the SanFran show...at least that’s what I read on his Facebook.” She said.

“Well then we’ll just have to wait and see.” Dylan said.

George sighed, “We’ll see.” He looked at Talia, “Let’s get on a happier subject, and we’ll cross that road when we get there.”

He wanted Talia to have fun, even though she didn’t want to be there, he was happy she came.

Talia looked at George. “Okay, What would make me happy right now?” She asked him.

“Ice cream, probably.” Dylan laughed as he lit the joint and took a hit before passing it to Jorel.

George laughed, “Whatever you want.” He said as he looked at Talia. He didn’t want the guys to think anything of it and he didn’t want to mess up the friendship with Dylan.

“Starbucks sounds good.” Talia smirked. Dylan chuckled, “see what you started?” He told George. Jorel passed the joint to Danny. “Hey, you gonna let Talia smoke with us?” Jordon asked. “That’s up to her.” Dylan said.
