Emma came out of the small bathroom about forty-five minutes later, her damp hair clinging to her face. Emma felt every drop of blood in her body run cold when the man spoke to her, but she found the courage to pull herself from the dark staircase. She walked into the little living room and glanced at the tv, seeing it was some sports channel.
