Hailey sat in the little police station interrogation room staring into the reflective mirror that reflected the hard and weary face that was her own. She hardly recognize herself now. She had just finished giving her statement, going over descriptions with a forensic sketch artist for a monster and yet her only concern was where Mackenzie was and if she was okay. She had told them that she was there the longest, three months and she could give them more than Mackenzie and not to burden Mackenzie with more trauma that she could handle it all herself. Hailey looked through the reflective mirror knowing that they were standing behind it talking about her and if she should be committed. She knew though that since they were still looking for the monster that she was too valuable and they wouldn't let her out of their site. Hailey was ready to get out of this small room it was starting to get warmer and the room seemed to be creeping in on her. PTSD at it's finest. Hailey thought to herself and fought against the urge to readjust her police issued clothing. She was still in the undergarments that she had been left with underneath the clothing given to her. The clothing itched like borrowed cloths always did.

Hailey lifted her head to the door as it opened. A suit with tender eyes walked in and she smirked. FBI. It was plain as day. Hailey knew that the monster had dumped the girls in different states. She had been watching. She had absorbed as much information as she could because she knew that once she got out she would need it, her life would depend on it. It would only make sense the FBI would take over witness protection. She looked him over and watched him walk into the room leaving the door open which was a relief. The cops had seemed to not understand what she had told them and the impact it had on her despite her calm demeanor. Even the police therapist who had come in with the EMT to do a risk assessment hadn't been as thoughtful despite her caring demeanor. The lady had said she was in sock. Hailey knew what shock was, she had had it many times during this ordeal, but this wasn't shock. This was calculation and waiting. This was what had saved her life was her ability to keep calm and stay level headed. Hailey waited for the tall suit to speak as she eyed him carefully.
Cade watched through the two way mirror at the blonde cuddled up in blankets sitting in a police interrogation room. He had heard of the other girl, Hailey, asking that they not put Mackenzie through this but it was procedure and after the police was all done Cade had been called in. His partner had checked in with him to see how Mackenzie was before heading off to meet Hailey. He was sure that his partner would want to put her mind at ease with the news of Mackenzie's wellbeing. Cade ran a hand through his hair watching her sit there and the strength he saw in her. He walked out into the hall and around her her room opening the door and stepping in and to the side so she had a clear exit. It was important to let her know she was safe and not trapped. "Ms. Mackenzie." he said his voice soft. He had brought in a bag of women's clothing that might be in her size. He knew borrowed clothes were never comfortable. "If you would like to pick out a change of clothes we will be meeting up with Hailey and my partner here in a few moments and heading out." He set the bag gently on the table and sat down across from her. "I am Agent Jackson but you can call me Cade. I will be your personal protection until the FBI can assure your safety." He said and offered her his hand to shake palm tilted up slightly to show he was no threat.

Blake walked into the room, watching Hazel for a moment. The woman had went over so many details about the awful things this man had done to the women before she escaped with her friend. She was strong woman and he was hoping they would catch this guy soon. He felt like they had been on this case for so long and now him and Cade were sent to protect these girls.

"Ms. Carter. I'm agent Collins. My partner and I will be looking after you and your friend to make sure you are safe. You can call me Blake." He said as he stepped towards her, slowly. He offered her his hand. "I checked on your friend before I came to visit you. She is doing just fine. Is there anything I can get for you before we head out?" He asked as he offered her the bag of clothes. "We will get you some real food once we get out of here." He explained to her.

He had always been one to stick to the plan and follow the rules. Cade had been the one that sometimes went rogue, taking the risks that sometimes needed to be taken. However, Blake was always there to pull him back down to earth and make him fall in line again. They were a good team and they had worked together for so long.
Mackenzie sat there, staring at the table as she held the blanket close to her. She didn't know what Hazel had been telling the officers. She hadn't been at the man's place very long before Hazel had helped her escape. If she hadn't then she would probably be dead already. The man had threatened her the night before saying she was annoying him and that he was going to get rid of her. She missed being home. She had worked at a local bar and when she was leaving work on night he had taken her.

She looked up when the door opened. Her eyes landed on the man that stepped inside. Her old self would have been focused on his appearance and flirting with him. Now all she could think about was how she could run away. Mackenzie looked at the bag of clothes, then looked at the agent in front of her, Cade. She slowly placed her small hand on his. "It's nice to meet you. Call me Kenzie." She said, quietly. She pulled her hand away from his, then let her fingers move through her blonde hair. This man was still looking for them. He had called them trophies and the thought of it made her skin crawl.

Hailey had survived two other girls death before she was the one that was there the longest, or that had been. She blinked and frowned looking down at the bag he set down. "Call me Hailey." she said and looked up at Agent Collins. She opened the bag and sorted through it her eyes calculating and her shoulders stiff. She closed the bag again and looked from him to the door. She stepped away from the table where she had shared the most intimate parts of her to complete strangers and felt if the table burned it still wouldn't be enough to calm the storm inside at the sight of it. She took a step towards the door watching Agent Collins to see if he would stop her. When he didn't she moved through the door and to the bathroom. She locked it with a hard click and stepped out of the borrowed clothes and picked something out of the bag that would fit better and be more comfortable. She knew she needed to clean up but as she looked at the sink it terrified her. She took a deep breath and turned on the water watching it spring from the faucet and she felt herself begin to shake. She clamped her teeth together took a paper towel and scrubbed her skin down mostly her face.

Once she was done she turned off the water and looked into her eyes in the mirror. The stark blue quivered and she turned from the image shoving on new cloths leaving the other cloths in a pile on the counter. Hailey took another moment to compose herself and stepped out seeing Agent Collins and handed him the bag back of things she wouldn't use. She was freshened up her face a little pink from the warm water she had cleaned up with. She wasn't wearing any makeup but her hair was combed with what was in the bag. Hailey looked around seeing several people watching her with what seemed like pity and she tried not to glare at them up instead walked over to the windows she knew where tinted so no one could see inside and stood there staring out completely still. Hailey didn't move again until she saw Makenzie. She walked over to her and tugged the blanket closer around her shoulders. "I'll be right here." she said and nodded to the bathroom she had used knowing Mackenzie would want to change as well. Hailey did stand there like she was guarding Mackenzie eyeing Cade suspiciously until he gave her a winning smile and to her credit she didn't completely roll her eyes before looking away.
Cade smiled softly as Mackenzie placed her hand in his even if nervously. It was a hopeful sign for sure. "Nice to meet you Kenzie." he said liking the way it rolled off his tongue. He watched her fidget and her eyes gaze over as her thoughts dragged her somewhere dark. "You hungry? We're going to go meet up with Hailey and my partner to get y'all some food. Come on let's get you to a bathroom to change." He stood and swept a hand slowly towards the door indicating she could go first. He wanted her to see she was in charge here.

Cade walked out of the room and down the hall spotting Hailey as she made a beeline for Mackenzie. He had to smile softly at her protective and nurturing nature. It was what likely had given her the courage to escape. He watched Mackenzie realizing that she must trust Hailey and it was a credit to both of them that bond that no one else could understand. He watched Hailey direct Mackenzie in essence telling her it was safe. He stood a little ways from the bathroom as Hailey stood much closer and he was just standing calm before looking over to catch Hailey all but glaring at him. He sent her a smile that would melt butter and she pursed her lips looking away just barely not rolling her eyes He would have chuckled but just smirked instead. Cade was laid back and easy going. He had a feeling he would win Hailey over easy but she would trust Blake more. He looked over at his partner who was doing as he always did, calculated and analyzed so he could be more effective. Cade had a feeling he met his match in Hailey. She seemed three steps ahead of Blake and it would be entertaining to watch him keep up for once. Cade looked over as the bathroom door opened and smiled kindly seeing Hailey watching him out of the corner of his eye. He slowly approached offering to take the bag from Mackenzie. "Alright let's hop in the jeep." he said grinning. "Don't get too excited it's business style." he smiled lightly and then looked at Hazel who shook her head at him but had a hint of a smile on her puckered lips as she tried to keep her composure. Cade grinned over at Blake and nodded for him to lead the way. Blake was the better driver on long trips and they had at least a state to put behind them.

Blake watched as she left the room to go change in the bathroom. He knew that he needed to be patient and not smother her. He had dealt with plenty if victims in his time. Some of them fell apart and some put up walls like Hazel. He looked at his watch as she came out. Once she was done he took the bag from her, offering it to one of the officers to put away.

He looked at Cade as he came down the hallway with the other girl. She looked scared and he could tell she had put a lot of faith into Hazel. He watched the two girls, letting Cade stand near the bathroom. Blake glanced down the hallway, then watched Hazel as they waited for Mackenzie to finish up in the bathroom. He looked at Cade, seeing him smirking at the girl. He had a way of being more friendly with the people. That has never been Blake's style. He watched as the door opened up and the girl came out. She looked like she had been crying.

"Let's get out of here." He said. He looked at the girls, "We will get food on the way." He said as they headed out of the station. He opened the door, stopping the girls between him and Cade. He pushed his jacket back some, his gun flashing in the light as he went out first to make sure it was clear. "Get in the jeep. We will get the food to go." He said as he walked to the jeep with them. He waited til the girls were inside before he climbed into the driver's seat. "I want no unnecessary stops." He said, looking over at Cade, then glancing back at the girls in the backseat before he started towards the place to eat.
Mackenzie grabbed the clothes, walking ahead of Cade. When she finally saw Hazel she felt a little relieved. She nodded when the girl told her she would be there waiting for her. "Okay." She said. She walked into the bathroom, going through the clothes. She stopped when she found a shirt she would have loved to wear. She had always liked crop tops. Now she just felt like it would bring in too much attention. Mackenzie looked at herself in the mirror, then pulled her shirt off. Her eyes moved the the fresh burn marks on her stomach. She closed her eyes, only to see that man's face. Mackenzie opened them, then pulled the top on, then a pair of jeans that fit her. She grabbed a zip up hoodie and pulled it on, zipping it up. She put her hair up in a messy bun, then pulled on a pair of shoes. She just wanted it all to be a nightmare.

She walked out of the bathroom, letting Cade take the bag from her. She listened to the other agent talk. He seemed more strict than Cade. She walked next to Hazel, crossing her arms as they started out of the station. Her eyes caught a glimpse of the gun on Blake's hip. That meant Cade was carrying too. She bit her bottom lip lightly as she got into the back of the Jeep with Hazel. She put her seatbelt on, not wanting to say anything. She glanced out the window, playing with a loose string on the end of her hoodie sleeve.

Hailey got in the jeep without saying anything and buckled up. She looked over at Mackenzie making sure that she was alright before turning to look out the window. They pulled up to some fast food joint and Hailey curled her nose as she looked out the window. She looked up to the front looking at Blake's ear in the driver's seat. She could almost scoff. Real food. She thought sarcastically. She looked over to see Cade looking at her and Mackenzie. He was checking to see if they were looking at the menu and what they might want and she looked back at the menu trying to imagine what she could get herself to eat. It wasn't like she really had eaten much lately but what she had eaten wasn't what she would call food. It was a means of dispersing the drug that was all. She sighed and decided a milkshake and fries would be nostalgic and that might just help her get something down. Hailey looked at Mackenzie questioningly. They spoke a lot without speaking most the time. It was easier to not be over heard that way. Hailey looked back at the front her eyes catching Blake's in the rearview mirror and she could tell he saw them as victims and when she got the chance she was going to correct that line of thinking. She wasn't a victim, being a victim implied she was helpless and she was anything but helpless and she planned that the next time this psycho came around that she was going to stop him once and for all.
Cade understood the policies but his thought was these girls had just been through a terrible ordeal and they looked like they haven't slept in days. They had been hurt in ways that left scars long after the body healed. Anything that he could do to help them feel comfortable in their on space again and around other people he would make the effort to do so. He fiddled with the radio making small talk to no one in particular about music and found a station that would work for everyone leaving it on low volume as they drove. When they stopped for food he knew it wasn't the best choice but it would feed them fast so they could get to the halfway point in a hurry. He turned around to look at the girls. He didn't think they looked impressed but Hailey at least tried to find something though her face was obviously in distain. He could almost hear her thoughts. She was a fighter and it took a lot it seemed for her not to fight everything. He had a feeling a lot of those where walls that allowed her to get through it all but none the less it was a strong characteristic to her personality. Makenzie on the other hand was harder to read. She was grieving for the life she use to have that would never be the same. He felt for her and hoped he could help. "Kenzie, Hailey your orders?" he asked playfully and held out a fake pen and pad in his hands making Hailey actually roll her eyes but she told him what she wanted.

Blake sighed as he tried to decide what he wanted. He was going to get himself a burger and fries. He glanced back in the mirror, catching Hazel looking at him. His eyes hidden by his sunglasses. Blake glanced over when Cade tried to make a joke to help the girls. He had a way with making people more comfortable. He ordered the milkshake and fries for Hazel. Then the fries and drink that Mackenzie wanted. He was sure they weren't too hungry. Blake looked at Cade, "What do you want to eat?" He asked.
Mackenzie stared at the menu, thinking about what she could possibly want. The food she had eat for the last weeks had been drugged. It all just sounded bad. "Just fries and a drink." She said. She glanced at Cade, seeing his attempt to make them relax. She couldn't though. She still felt uncomfortable around these guys. Why did they have to be sent to be with men. It felt like a trap.

Hailey sat back as they finished ordering and food was passed out. She opened the shake and dipped a fry in it looking at it before putting it in her mouth. She sighed contently at the flood of happy memories it brought back even though her stomach turned with the feeling of food and the memory of drugs and acts that made her sick. Hailey took a bite of the milkshake finding that was the easiest to eat if she didn't have to chew though she made herself keep eating. She had to eat to stay strong. Once they were at the safe house she was sure she could cook better food that would be easier to eat. Once she felt full she stopped. One milkshake and half a fry later and she couldn't eat any more. She use to be able to put men to shame when eating. It was always funny to see their face when she could pack away more food than they could and she was so much smaller than them. She put her trash in the left over bag and stared back out the window.
Cade nodded glade she was going to eat anything at all. When he gave his order to Blake as well his usual. They had been partners long enough they knew each others fast food orders. They parked only long enough for Blake to eat then they were off again. The car was full of silence and normally Cade could fill the absence with senseless chatter but he could tell that this wasn't the time for it. They needed time and space to heal and he would be there for them as they needed him. Besides he knew it was hard for them to be around men right now as well. If they had had any female agents that knew the case and could go they would have sent them but Cade and Blake where the best and happen to know the case as well.

Blake finished eating quickly, then started on the road again. Part of him was glad that everyone was being so quiet. He had to think about how to handle this and talk to them. Mackenzie seemed like she would break at any moment and Hazel looked like she was going to hurt someone. He drove until they got to the halfway point, then parked outside of a hotel. "Cade, go check us in and check out the room. I will stay down here with the girls. Come back when you are done so we can get them up there and rest." He said. He leaned back against his seat, glancing at the girls in the mirror.
Mackenzie took her fries and drink. She ate a few of the fries but she was more happy about the drink. She hadn't had a soda in so long. She drank it before they got to the hotel. When they stopped she glanced around. She didn't like the idea of stopping. Even if they were hours from where they were. She watched as Cade got out, then caught Blake looking at them. Like he was waiting for something.

Hailey listened to his plan and raised an eyebrow. One room. She guess it made sense. She turned to look at him through the mirror. "We're not going to break sitting in the back seat." she placed a hand over Mackenzie's and then looked away from Blake. It was a couple minutes later when Cade came back knocking softly. before opening the door as Blake unlocked it. "All set." he said and smiled into the back seat. He closed the door before heading to the trunk and pulling out a few bags. He handed one to Blake and held the others moving to go inside. Hailey turned to follow him keeping her hand on Mackenzie's. When they had escaped Hailey had carried her until she had woken from the drugs. Hailey was sure they would be much faster both being alert now. They got into the room and there were two queens and a sofa. Hailey looked around and looked at the door as it closed. The boys situated their things around the room making sure things were locked and everywhere someone could hide was double checked. Even though Hailey watched them do it she would check it again later. Hailey sat on the bed farthest from the door and Cade smiled at her and set a bag behind them. "That's for you two. It has some basic things and toiletries. Sorry if everything is a little big. Once we get to the safe house we will make sure to stock up on what works for you both." he said and Hailey nodded. She knew no one was going to be getting any sleep tonight except maybe one of the guys. They would probably sleep in shifts. She was just thinking logically but she had no idea how this was going to go. "Hungry?" Cade asked them and then looked at Blake. Hailey shook her head. Her leg bounced and what she was really feeling was restless. She was tired of sitting. She needed to move but she was pretty sure a trip to the gym was out of the question.
Cade frowned as he saw Hailey shake her head. He saw her bouncing and could see the same restlessness in Blake. He was good at hiding it but as his partner Cade knew Blake was more of the moving around type. "Kenzie you want to watch a movie?" he asked her trying to gauge how she was feeling as he sat back on the other bed. If they all needed to be moving then maybe a trip to the gym was worth it to get everyone to get some sleep tonight. Cade watched Blake go through his routine. "Blake." he got his partner's attention. "What time you want me to have the front desk wake us?" he asked hoping that he would break his partners routine enough to notice that these girls were only going to get worse if they didn't take the time to help them. A mental break was just as dangerous as missing protocol.

Blake looked away when Hazel said they wouldn't break. "I didn't expect you to." He said as Cade knocked on the door. He got out, grabbing everything they needed before they headed up to the room. He checked all the doors, making sure it was all locked. Once that one done he set his bags down, organizing all of his stuff. He set his laptop up, then walked around the room checking everything again. Blake was setting the alarm on his watch as Cade spoke. He looked over at him. When he got into these habits he often silenced everything around him. "4:30." He said. He looked over and noticed the girls. They looked like they were tired of sitting. He pulled his jacket off, putting over the back of the chair. "Do you two want to for a walk?" He asked them. A walk through the hotel wouldn't hurt.

    ---

Mackenzie walked into the room, staying close to Hazel. She sat on the bed once they were inside. The way the two walked around the room kept her attention. She watched as Blake paced the room. She looked at Cade when he spoke, shaking her head. "No thank you." She said. She looked at her hands. She glanced at Hazel when Blake mentioned a walk. She wondered if her friend would want to do it. Hazel didn't trust these guys just like she didn't.

Hailey was relieved when Blake stopped pacing the room. She watched him look at her and pull off his jacket. Her eyes moved to his gun and raised a brow. A gun and a suit wasn't really low key. She nodded as he suggested a walk. She might not trust him but she really needed to move about. She stood and looked at Mackenzie. "You can stay here if you like I am sure Cade would be happy to stay." she said hoping that Mackenzie understood that while Hazel was being cautious she knew that Mackenzie would be fine with Cade. He was weird and boyish but he had a strength to him that she though didn't fully understand believed he would protect Mackenzie. Besides she would really like a few moments with Blake to get a better feel for him. If she was going to get any rest tonight she needed to get feel for him. Hailey knew through that sitting was not something they were really use to and that she might want a walk as well and that was fine too. Hailey felt like a walk wasn't really going to be enough but it was a hotel she couldn't really go for a run around the halls and a small room for a gym didn't seem like a good idea either. She turned and slipped her hands into her pockets watching Blake.
Cade smiled pleased she had spoken to him. He would take the small wins. "We can walk with them or we could just rest up here. I think I saw Italian soda on the menu if your interested." He grinned at Mackenzie softly trying not to be too boisterous like he had a tendency to be. He wanted to be soft so she could ease into him and back into making new friendships and working relationships. He wanted to help her with whatever she needed. He was there to protect her yes but he was also there to help her through this, the lows and hopefully the highs too.

Blake took the gun off of himself, taking the clip out before he set it on the desk. He had another gun on him but she didn't need to know that. He hid it well. When Mackenzie decided to stay he looked at Cade. "Let me know if you need me." He said to him. He knew Cade could take care of himself, but he didn't trust anyone. Blake looked at Hazel, "Let's go for a walk." He said. He opened the door, walking out with her. He slipped his hands into his pocket as they walked down the hallway. He had never been great at conversations. It was why he never had relationships or many friends. He was close with Cade and that was about it.

    --

Mackenzie nodded, "I will stay here." She said. She looked at Cade once they were alone. "You don't have to keep offering to buy me stuff. It's not going to fix anything." She said. She bit her bottom lip lightly as she leaned back against the headboard of the bed. She hoped she didn't upset him. She just felt bad that his attempts to make her feel better would never work. She looked over at him and watching him carefully.

Hailey watched him. She didn't really like guns and decided she didn't want to really learn to shoot one but maybe she would change her mind. Hailey walked out and sighed once out in the hallway where she could pace. She looked around and headed to the stairway thinking it would be the easiest way to get the exercise and to different levels to pace. Hailey listened to his silence for a while then looked over at him. "Agent Collins." she waited until his eyes met hers. "Might I ask you some personal questions?" she asked wanting to get a feel for him. She had to know how important her life was. Right now she was a stranger with a sad sob story. He saw her as a victim and likely had a bit of a hero complex but she wanted to be certain where he stood. She was already more relaxed walking about than she had been all day but she was very vigilant nonetheless.
Cade nodded at her suggestion. "Okay I will stop offering things to you if you make me a promise." he looked over to her. "To tell me what you need when you need it. I'm here to help Kenzie that's all. If I can count on you to ask for what you need and take care of yourself then I will stop trying to give you things." he said. He was calm and actually glad she had told him her feelings. He knew nothing he could do would fix anything. Cade stood and took his gun out dismantling it like Blake had his. He put them away before standing and removing his jacket and his tie. He sighed unbuttoning the top couple buttons relaxing into the chair and pulling out his lap top. Cade looked back at Mackenzie. He wanted to be sure there wasn't anything else she wanted or needed before he went to work on the case.
