I've been a vegetarian for about eight months or so. I feel healthier. Honestly, I do.

Why'd I become vegetarian? I read the book called Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer. It did a lot for me.

Does anyone have a good recipe for vegan egg drop soup? I've tried a few from offline and it's just not doing it for me. I feel like I'm missing a spice or something. Think

I became vegetarian on halloween but had avoided meat for a while before that and I stopped eating dairy even before that. I've been trying to become a vegan but I've accidentally eaten some breads without reading the ingreadients to find out they had milk/egg so I've just gotta be more careful.

I've been a vegetarian for almost two months now...? About that long, I think. It's honestly just been so refreshing. I was never terribly into meat in the first place, but for the last month or so before I went veggie I was just getting physically ill by the thought of it. I feel like I've been eating healthier, and I haven't had any sort of desire to go back to eating meat at all. Although I'm not sure I could go vegan, I'm too attached to bread and dairy (namely, ice cream lmfao).

Of course, there were other factors in my decision too (I'm just not comfortable with the idea of eating animals, and I never really have been). My aunt was vegetarian and has been for awhile, and she was sort of the one who inspired me to look at my choices more carefully, to really think about what I was doing. Unfortunately, my mother thinks "it's just a phase~~", and she laughed at me when I told her it wasn't. Facepalm Well, the joke's on her, either way. XD

^ My mum thought it was just a phase... It's been five years now. I hope your veggie-ness goes well. Cute

Interesting thought, does your body become accustomed to not eating meat? A friend of mine gave up meat for lent (so that's what, a month?) and when he tried eating meat again it messed with his stomach. He had to like, break himself in to eating it again... I'm not sure what to deduce from his experience. Does meat generally mess with you and your body has to adjust to it, or would that happen cutting out any (or a certain) food and then eating it again?

it's has something to do with proteins, i think. the stomach has a bit of trouble digesting or breaking them down if you've cut meat out for awhile.

Just out of curiosity, why do you still eat fish?

hmm... well my last post was wow i guess i was really tired... anyways i meant to say that i've been a vegetarian for almost a month and i've wanted to be one for years... before i made my decision of officially becoming a vegetarian, i did a lot of research on the types of vegetarians (i figured the best way to start would be to be a mix of a pescatarian and Lacto-ovo vegetarian)and as well as proteins and vitamins that one would get less of... and well i knew that if i gave up everything and went cold turkey, i probably wouldn't last more than a week so my plan is to see how it goes cutting out red meat and chicken and gradually take out fish... one of the main reasons i still eat fish is because my parents would honestly feel bad about making a lot of food, mostly consisting of meat when i couldn't have any and my brother is a super picky eater... so i guess it was a solution that benefited everyone :) so i guess technically i'm not a complete vegetarian though according to my second grade teacher all vegetarians do eat fish (she didn't really take it well when i disagreed...)

^ I'm really surprised someone argued that all vegetarians eat fish...

I started by cutting out all the meat, then I cut out the seafood a few months later. I felt embarrassed when I'd go out for lunch with my nan and she'd ask for a prawn or tuna sandwich for me 'because she's a vegetarian.' I didn't like that I got called by that title when I wasn't, so I decided to get rid of the fish sooner rather than later. :3

I stopped eating meat in April of 2007, I think it was. For me it was a case of animal rights, I have always been a big animal lover (as in I love animals a lot, not I only love big animals) but I hadn't really given it any thought. When I eventually did think to myself 'hold on a minute, that's kinda cruel' I stopped and never looked back. And that's proper vegetarian, no fish either.

Two years ago this March (the 4th, to be precise) I became vegan for the second time. I had done it before but had to stop when I was forced to eat cheese. (long, awkward story. To summarise; I used to live with a dick head..)

A lot of people ask 'whats it like not eating meat/dairy' and 'how can you not eat [insert name of meat here]', and the answer is simple, it would be contradictory for me to say I'm an animal lover and then have animals slaughtered just for my pleasure. The reason I don't eat dairy is that I don't like the thought of animals being used for the pleasure and satusfaction of humans, farmed and milked and whatnot, so we can eat it.

Then when you haven't eaten it in a while you start realising how disgusting meat and dairy actually is, and there is no desire to eat it on any level.

I've been something of a vegetarian since the start of the year, and I haven't eaten meat in more than a month now (I decided to switch over gradually, rather than cutting out everything all at once). I haven't felt any different thus far, which is pretty cool, since I've heard lots of people complain about how sick vegetarianism made them and I have manymany health problems (mostly related to my digestive system, ha) but it hasn't stopped me yet. :')

I've been vegetarian for about 3 months now. The first week of so, i was really tired. I don't know if that was the lack of iron or what. Everyone was like, "Sure Jai, sure". But now, they're bummed out. They thought I wouldn't last. One time, i swaaped sandwiches with a friend, without thinking about it, and it had ham in it. I only had a bite before realising, and didn't swallow, but i felt so so sick.

I may become a vegan later on, but for right now, i'm uber proud of myself and my decision. Cute

If you're worried about the lack of iron in your diet, you should try eating pumpkin seeds, they're ridiculously rich in both iron and magnesium - around 1/4 of a cup gives you one third of the iron and magnesium you need in one day.

^ It helps just be extra aware of the iron in your diet in general - think about what vegetables/meat replacements you're eating and make adjustments. You could add a tin of beans to your usual weekly diet or make a point to throw in lots of leafy green vegetables on the side or as a main part of a meal, for example.

I've been a vegetarian for...wow, over 4 years now. I'm mostly very good, but if I'm really hungry or drunk or something, I don't bother to check packets. I haven't eaten meat straight for 4 years though. :) The only form of 'meat' I ever crave now is fish.

I don't know if I'll stay like this for the rest of my life. It's mostly just habit now, I haven't got any strong opinions on eating or not eating meat.

I'm a vegetarian. I've been one for three years, I think. It's for ethical reasons. I want to go vegan, and I have tried several time, but the availability of vegan food makes it difficult and expensive, and I'm a student living on my own. So therefore, my compromise if to eat vegan when I can, and eat vegetarian when I can't.
