In Rennyboy., Ren's parents are...eccentric. His mom doesn't like to do "the norm," so I thought it would be fitting (and kind of funny) to name him something weird, like Ren. As for Soria, I was in seventh grade and had gym class with a girl who had the same-spelled name. Everybody pronounced her name Sor-ee-uh, but it was really pronounced Sor-eye-uh. And, of course, as a kid, I thought Sor-ee-uh sounded neat, so it stuck...sadly, I can't change it, since I can't imagine her being called anything else.

I've never really liked odd names, but now I'm writing a story, were basically everybody have weird names. Though I will excuse me with, because all of the people with the weird names have parents that are Gods (from ancient Greek mythology) and the names mean what their parent are the Gods over. Like, I searched for names with the meanings 'water', 'sea' and 'ocean' when they were Poseidon's children. They very rarely use their birth names in real life, having changed them to normal names if being all too outstanding. tehe

I vary with how I pick names. Sometimes, like with ConĂ¡n and Padraig, I just really like the name and decide to use it for my characters. Others, like with Eric, represents a current obsession, for instance, Eric in Sure To Shine and Dylan in my one-shot I'll Be There represent my obsession with researching Columbine xD

Surnames are different. Surnames will either mean something secret to me, like an inside joke, or they'll just pop into my head with the first name, because I think that they flow well. Other times, characters will name themselves, like Skylar in Sure To Shine, who strolled into my head and said, "Yo. I'm Skylar Mitchell. Write about me, nao."

Just depends on how determined the characters are xD

One of my characters, who is Native American, is named Gemma Abequa. Her first name is modern, because her mom didn't really embrace her heritage, and I just found her last name. Now I've been doing research and found out that Abequa actually means "she stays at home," which makes sense with the plot of the story. tehe

I love the name Mark :)
My names are never from people I know, and I rarely search them I choose them on the past, or just guesses. I'm a student of names.

I like names that just seem to fit the character I'm writing. I really like boy names for girls. Ahaha, like in Permanent her name is Oli, short for Olivia. And in Wither, her name is George, short for Georgia.

    How I get them?

Most of the time from movies, books, my friends, and whatnot. I like uncommon spellings in names, but I also like traditional names too.

    Why I choose them?

It all depends on what my story genre is I guess. Romance will have more interesting names, while horror or comedy will have more traditional.

You're not weird at all! I'm the same. If I think of a name for a character and it's the same as someone I know, I can't get that person out of my head.
I tend to just look on baby naming websites. The meanings play a big roll in the naming of my characters too. And I don't like to go for totally random names, I mean...real sounding names, Ive never (and I don't think I will) meet someone called "Raven Black-Heart Keys" (Totally random.) I like them to be believable at least.

I've been picking names based on heritage lately. My latest female character is named Maria Theresa Katarina Hathaway. I choose her first and two middle names because her mother is Spanish (like, from Spain Spanish), and is also a devout Catholic. Her father, however, is just a run of the mill European "Heinz-57", hence the vanilla last name Hathaway. What I like best is nicknames. tehe

Miss Maria Theresa Katarina Hathaway goes by "Kitty", because that's what her little brother and sister call her. tehe

My best buddy, thinkbabynames.com, helps me with this process (:

    Why I choose them:
They are either very unusual or very cool sounding :3

I usually just mak eup a cool sounding name, or I go fro something dark that suits my characters personality.
For example: My character Valentine is an assassin, but she usually plays the bait, so she has a name that says "lovable"
And Luna, the character I use the most, is a little dark, so her name is associated with night, unlike her twin sister, Sunny, who is a brigher person.

I use a website that has the meaning and origin of names for my characters. I don't try to suit the meaning of the name with the character unless the parents knew what would happen to their kid beforehand. I mostly use it to match the character's nationality with their name. I like to be accurate and realistic.
