Baccano just didn't seem all that interesting to me. I kept trying to go get the willpower to watch it, but I never really made it to clicking the play button. Same for Toradora and Gundam.

Because I'm kinda lazy about seeing what other people have suggested, I will suggest a few of my own personal favs.

Kaikan Phrase - If you like Gravitation, you'll this oen. It's about a high school girl and her blooming romance with a very famous singer. But I suggest reading the manga first because anime acts like a preqeul to the manga until the girl is actually is introduced. The art is wonderful, as is the story, and the music for the anime is kick ass. Excuse my language. Lol. But I must warn you, the manga is rated mature. :o

Hellsing - Hellsing is another awesome anime. With a lot of blood but like someone else has said, it's kind of confusing at first.

Vampire Hunter D - I'm kind of a fan of this anime movie. It's about a half vampire half human vampire hunter. The animation is a bit old fashioned (it was made during the 80s) but the story line is wonderful. There's a sequel called Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Amatsuki - This is in Japanese but its very interesting because it has that InuYasha feel to it. It's about a boy who was using a virtual reality simulation to study about Japan's history when a monster attacks him and traps his mind the virtual reality.

Chobits - A cute anime from the makers of Card Captors. It's a romantic sci fi. its about a boy finding a robotic girl (called a Persocom). The story line is cute and the animation is pretty good.

Zoids - I barely remember this old anime but it was pretty good when i watched it back in the day.

InuYasha - A girl being thrown back into the feudal era and meeting a half demon. The animation is good and so is the story line but it takes forever to watch because of the number of episodes.

Dragonball Z - another old anime but if you like action its the one for you.

Saiyuki - Saiyuki is a classic twist on the Monkey King goes west story. The animation is really good.

DNAngel - This is another good anime too. It's about a boy from a family of thieves and he is able to become a phantom thief called Dark. The animation is one of the best I've ever seen.

That's all i can think of at the moment. XD

I'm sorry to say, but Avatar: The Last Airbender is not an anime, though it was animated in Asia. It was animated in Korea or something like that, but it is heavily influenced by animes such as Samurai Champloo and Naruto. XD I am anime buff, so I know a lot about Avatar: The Last Airbender. Hetalia sounds interesting. I'll go watch it soon. Is there a manga for it?

I grew up on Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Dragon Ball Z. Still love SM and DBZ<3

    I've watched Inuyasha and Clannad.

I've also seen a few episodes from the following: An Ugly Yet Beautiful World, Angel Beats, there are others, I can't think of them right now...

If you want some anime movies to watch, you can't go wrong with Miyazaki films or really anything done by Studio Ghibli.

I recommend Vampire Knight and Hakuouki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. As the name suggests, Vampire Knight is about vampires, in a school setting but with a totally different twist to your normal vampire show. And Zero! ...just seeing him in all his glory is worth it to watch the anime. Very Happy

Hakuouki is actually set in the Edo period of Japan and does a wonderful job of combining romance, comedy, thriller and japanese history together. And it certainly doesn't hurt that all of the guys are so good-looking... There's also a PSP game released in Feb this year for Hakuouki, which is really good.

There's actually many, many more animes I can recommend, but Vampire Knight and Hakuouki are probably some of the best I've seen. No, wait. There's one more - Kaze no Stigma. Seriously, this anime had me laughing so many times, and Kazuma was just the right mixture of cool guy, strong male lead, joker and the all-round likeable guy.

I've watched a lot of animes so I know a few from almost every genre c: Some of them that I've watched, the manga is WAYYY better, so I recommend reading it first.

Pandora Hearts - My number one favorite manga. The anime was alright, albeit the animations were kind of horrible compared to the manga art. The plot is just amazing and the characters are all lovable. It's mystery (I guess you can call it that) with hints of romance.

Ao no Exorcist - This is a must too. The art (both manga and anime) is amazing and the characters add to the greatness too. It's supernatural and a little religious, since it is about exorcists, Satan, etc. Regardless, it's very interesting.

Death Note - You do not know anime until you've seen/read this. It's mystery, with very tiny hints of gothic horror and just the greatest mystery I've read so far.

Soul Eater - Hints of comedy and action. I haven't gotten that far in the anime but so far it's really cool! The art is amazing and the concept is interesting.

Uta no Prince Sama - The plot is okay, but the characters make up for it. It's harem, romance and comedy all packed in one (x It's good in my opinion,, with 12/13 episodes I think.

Baccano! - Mystery, drama, action. Very interesting in concept and the art is very good. Need I say more?

Durarara!! - Same author as Baccano! Thus it's mystery, supernatural, drama, action, gang fights, pure awesomeness.

Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji - Supernatural, drama, mystery, demon butlers.

Ouran Highschool Host Club - This is a must. Romance, comedy, drama, harem; it's to die for. The art is wonderful and so is the idea.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn! - Okay, you HAVEEE to watch this. It's drama, action, comedy, MAFIA. The beginning was alright but it gets SOO much better. The art is amazing and so is the concept. I mean, the mafia. It's self explanatory :D

    Hetalia - Perfection in one.

Naruto - Action, NINJAS, and everything in between. But it has a lot of fillers so be wary.

Heart no Kuni no Alice - Alice in Wonderland spinoff. If you're a hugee Alice in Wonderland fanatic like me, you'll lover this. But the manga is preferred since the movie wasn't that great.

Another - Horror, supernatural, very interesting. The anime is soo good along with the manga.

Fairy Tail - I've watched like 5 episodes but I'm already in love with it! :D It's comedy, drama, mages/wizards (kind of aha) and action.

Shiki - I'm in lovee with this. Mystery, horror, holy crap it's soo goodd.

    D. Gray Man - action, drama, exorcists. TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH THIS.

And that's just some, aha C:

I could've sworn I posted in here at one point.
    Anyways--

    Darker Than Black
    - Do yourself a favor and watch this one. The second season is a little confusing, but it's so easy to get hooked on the series. The animation is incredible and the story is just beautiful. It's mostly drama, but there's plenty of action in it. Think of it like Batman with electric superpowers, and that basically describes the main character. I recommend the English Dub, because the team really picked a group of incredibly talented voice actors.

    Persona 4 The Animation
    - If you've played the Persona series, or just want a really memorable anime to watch, you have to see this one. It's a little more comical than the game was, but the story follows the game exactly. It's 25 episodes and a special bonus episode, which is plenty of time to pace the story perfectly. But the most fun you'll have watching this show will be had in the episodes that don't exactly tie into the main plot. It's a slice of life anime with portions of action and comedy, and even heartbreak. Overall, this anime is just one more reason I'm so obsessed with the series.

    Black Rock Shooter
    - I just finished this anime not too long ago, and it really surprised me. I started watching it out of curiosity when I heard the theme song in a Vocaloids game. It's a semi-slice-of-life anime, featuring a young girl dealing with normal friendship issues and whatnot, but the other half is an extremely brutal action adrenaline rush that can be extremely gruesome at times. I really wasn't expecting too much out of it, but this anime took my expectations and beat the utter crap out of them.

    Devil Survivor 2 The Animation
    - Like Persona 4, DS2 is another anime that takes place within the Shin Megami Tensei lore, though the two are not connected. Honestly, I never played the game until after watching the anime, but despite many fans of the game saying that the anime wasn't good, I thought it was brilliant. It's a post apocalyptic anime that features a group of people of varying ages using a mysterious demon summoning app to fight to survive the last few days of humanity. It's really heartbreaking by the end, but epic at the same time.

    Other mentionables:
    Trigun
    Hetalia
    Sword Art Online
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (it's an older anime movie, but it's so good)
    Persona: Trinity Soul
    Last Exile
    Blazblue: Alter Memory

    My favs are:
Trigun (It's good if you like the post apocalyptic sci-fi mixed with westerns. For a series with about 25 episodes, it has a solid story line and the characters all have more to them then you would think at first glance).
Naruto - It's been years since I've seen this but if you like the underdog type heroes and ninjas, then you'll love this anime.
Dragonball Z - Same as Naruto, only it's more sci-fi than Naruto and contains lots of action and comedy. It has a lot of good tear jerking episodes though. Especially where Vegeta is concerned.
Elfin Lied - Despite the nudity and the gore, this is a really good science fiction anime. Nyu is very adorable and the idea behind the Dicileon(?) is really good. It's a shame there's only 13 episodes
Black Butler - I'm only half way through it but if you like victorian style story lines and shows with demons, then this is the anime for you.
Fruits Basket - This is a huge fluffy anime with some dark themes underlining it. The manga explains a lot about the characters in it. It's about a girl living with a cursed family.
Fancy Lala - Another fluffy anime. A ten year old girl gains magical powers to transform into a pop idol with the help of two dinosaur fairies. I'm kinda reminded of Jem and the Holograms with this series.
Ranma 1/2 - If you like Dragonball Z or Inuyasha, then you'll love this series. It's about a boy being cursed with a girl form.
Inuyasha - By the creator of Ranma 1/2. IY is about a girl taken from the modern day and thrusted into into the feudal era of Japan where she meets a half dog demon named inuyasha. They have to track down the shards of a sacred jewel and a big bad demon that has a vendetta against Inuyasha.
Wolf's Rain - It's a sci-fi-ish anime about a group of wolves trying to find paradise so that they can save their race from extinction or something like that.
Shuga Chara - I'm not far in the anime but if you like magical transformation girl animes then i suggest this one. A girl gets three eggs that contain fairies who represent three different aspect of herself and she has to find this thing called a gaurdian egg X(?) so she can be the ultimate gaurdian. It kinda reminds me of Sailor Moon mixed with the elements of Card Captor Sakura.
Sailor Moon - the mother of all magical girl transformation animes. It's very long but the storyline never gets tiring, except for Sailor Moon and the Scouts dying and being reborn constantly after taking down a big baddie.
Tokyo Mew Mew - Like Sailor Moon but it focuses on a group of girls whose dna was mixed with an animal as they fight some evil alien bad guys.
Gravitation - if you like slash then you'll like this. It's about a male singer's blossoming romance with a male writer.
Yu Yu Hakusho - It's like modern version of Inuyasha with the DBZ Martial Arts aspect thrown in. It's about a young boy dying and then coming back to life so he can fight demons and spiritual beings that threaten humanity. It also has some underdog characters that you'll love.
