We signed a couple of minor players. Nothing huge on our end.

Although the entire Suter-Parise drama is giving me anxiety. :/

I'm still upset about Prust not going to be a Ranger in the fall. In my opinion he was the best fighter on the team.

We traded Roy for Steve Ott and some defenceman I never heard of. I don't know how I feel about this.

Wow so not so sure how I feel about Zach Parise signing with the Wild. Although I had a feeling as soon as it was mentioned that the Wild were going for him that he would sign for them. I wish him all the best with the Minnesota Wild

Suter and Parise to Minnesota. That's pretty interesting.

Parise and Suter to the Wild while the Stars are taking guys like Roy and Jagr... And then there is also the Eastern threat of the Staal Brothers joining forces and Pyatt went to the Rangers... This season is going to be a crazy ride for sure!

The Staal brothers joining up don't really make Carolina a threat. Hate to say it, but they'll still be a "doormat of the East" for a bit longer. :/

Don't know how I feel about the Parise-Suter to the Wild thing. The whole waiting game felt like a waste of time after hearing the actual decisions.

@GingerLife I was upset Prust didn't become a Leaf... I was looking forward to it. He's getting over-paid in Montreal, that's for sure.

I was hoping Parise would re-sign in NJ. It seems kind of stupid they named him Captain when he'd leave a year later...

The Leafs have been very quiet... the Schenn trade was the only one that made a splash. I can't believe Army signed with the Habs but he's not a big loss, and Joey Crabb signed with Washington (and he was trending on Twitter for two days). The Pens got Philippe Dupuis and I guess he's with Scranton but what will they do if/when they call him up. They already have a P. Dupuis on the team I wonder how that jersey situation will work out..

Also, the Hawks have been silent they only signed one guy! I hate when they're so silent. Something big is gonna happen.

I think the combination of the Staals and Skinner will boost them a little, not saying they will magically be unstoppable, but some impact will be made. As for Dallas and Minn...I'm still saying yikes. There are some scary deals occurring lately. . Main reason I'm not more worried about Carolina is they took Joe Corvo for two-years which is a complete joke. Corvo is useless. . . they'd have been better off taking him for a year for around 1.6, similar to a benoit pouliot deal with tampa. . . two years for Corvo is just a wasted two years, he's a horrible defenseman. . Just from what I have witnessed in Boston.

I'm still extremely curious to see where Bobby Ryan will end up and if Tim Thomas will be traded prior to the start of the season or if he's going to be trade deadline usage.

I think I heard that the Bruins can trade Thomas because he's still technically under contract even though he's taking the year off. If there's another team that needs to reach cap minimum they can ask the Bruins for Thomas's contract/rights so he counts against their cap. There's been some talk in the Flyers camp about them doing the same thing regarding Pronger. I'm not sure how accurate that is, though.

Anyway, first post here! Hi, everyone! -waves-

Flyers, Flyers, Flyers! That's all it's ever about in the hockey news anymore. Gosh, give it a rest.
    --I kid, I kid. lol

Welcome to the hockey board! :3

I can understand the cap situation, which actually makes sense when you look at it.

Oh my god I think it's so stupid Thomas is taking the year off. He is so talented and to just take a break when he's on top of the game is stupid. You don't get to be the best by slacking and he's doing just that. I've heard so many theories as to why he's doing it and I just think it's ridiculous. Excuse my ignorance and my selfishness but I think Tim Thomas taking a year off is absurd. Retire if you're going to take a "break" at 38 years old. Goalie is the toughest position to play and you don't see anyone else taking a break. Look at all the other older goalies, are they stopping? Nope! He's gonna be 39 by the time he starts playing again, that's retirement age! What is he gonna do, come back at 39 and play for another year before retiring? By taking a year off he's letting all of Boston's other goalies (and it seems to me like they're stacked in that department) step in and take his spot. None of those guys have any plans to stop and they could sure as hell get Thomas' starting position if they're good enough. I mean, if you have one goalie who's taking a year off to do whatever and another one who's willing to stay and hold up the team the choice is pretty obvious which one you'd keep around longer. I don't know why Tim Thomas, one of the league's best goalies, would want to take a break when you've got guys like Jonathan Quick right on your tail. I won't complain though, I'm happy. Toronto has a fighting chance at the series this season!!

Speaking the Flyers (sorry, Mallory) has anyone else seen those pics of JVR's brother?! Hot damn!! I will say this... I'm upset about the Schenn-JVR trade. The more I think about it the more upset I get. I guess I'm defensive about my top line and I don't want him coming in and ruining the chemistry Lupul, Bozak and Kessel have. Why you gotta go break up Bert n Ernie, Burkie?! I feel like I know Bozak's gonna be traded and it's ripping me, he's one of my favourites. Probably gonna be involved in a goalie trade, whenever that happens.

PS; welcome to the board!!! It's so much more inactive than it was last year, omg.

Thank you! I'm glad to be here. :)

I understand how you feel about the trade. People on the Philly side aren't too happy either. Then again, we're never really happy with anything Holmgren does until it works out in our favor. I hope JVR is a good player for you guys. He just never lived up to his potential here. However, I'm right there with you about his brother! Disney prince Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Just as a discussion topic, I have to write a column for the magazine I write for and I was thinking of doing it on the most unfairly criticized hockey players. After asking around I've come up with Ilya Bryzgalov, Alex Ovechkin, and Tim Thomas. Who would you guys add to the list and why?

I would definitely say Ovechkin and Thomas. Ovechkin just because his talent has been overshadowed (and somewhat declined; pick it up, Ovie!) by his actions and attitude off the ice (which is seen mostly by players in the NFL or NBA, in my opinion). Thomas, on the other hand, is self explanatory. All of the chaos and controversy surrounding what he has said and his decision not to go to the White House (and I personally can understand why. Yeah, the gov't is crap; there, I said it).

As for Bryz....was he criticized for not solving the Flyers goaltender woes? I have no idea why he was criticized, and I never really heard anything bad about him. Except he's a Flyer, and around these parts....yeah, you know. :P
