Where you can and cannot completely understand the words the author is telling
Imperfections, not everyone is the most beautiful creature
odd plotlines that end up with you deciding
Where you can tell the writer puts all effort fourth, heart, mind, body, soul, even if they update once a month, it's worth it.

When the littlest things make sense and add up to a character. Like, if the character was supposed to be very beautiful, then for their name to actually mean 'Beauty' would make me very happy. Although it would be overkill to state that the name means beauty, but if you were to look it up and it means that.

Oh, I love that sort of thing. Especially with Harry Potter, I was practically jumping up and down when i found out Luna's dad was named Xenophilius.

Personally, my favorite Harry Potter reference name is Remus. The fact that he's a werewolf, and in Roman mythology Remus and Romulous(?) were nursed by a she-wolf before the shepard came and found them. I was bouncing in my seat while reading that in Social Studies. :XD

I like it when short stories take place in just one setting.

Great characters. If a character is good enough, I'll read just about anything.

    A really brilliant, wonderful plot.

    And, frankly, sex scenes.

I’ve realised it’s all about the words, the phrasing and the tone of the story for me. :shifty

You can use the most cliché plotline of all times, never bother with fan-fic facts (like which day -insert band- played a concert in what town or when this or that song was written or who’s a vegetarian etc), have your character being a bit of a Mary-Sue (or a character that’s supposed to be a twenty-something year old man but reminds more of a young teenage girl) and still I would read it. If you can write beautifully and create an atmosphere I don’t care about the rest.

Of course I love reading stories that are brilliant in every aspect. But that’s not what it takes for me to love it. As long as the writing is pretty I’ll love reading it. Bring me exceptional metaphors and similes, weave a beautiful creation of words, and I’m content. Smiley

I would love to read more one-shots that tackle deep things that don't often get written about.

I find that if the characters are good, I can read the most pathetic bullshit. I love you Twilight!

I also like really realistic awkward moments. That's always fun.

EDIT: sorry....I didn't realize that I'd posted basically the same thing...yesterday. I suck.

I like to see little meaningful things over big gestures. Like just a simple hug can make that one character feel at home again, small things with big values is what I like to see.

Well-written stories that tackle the aftermath of male rape. Particularly what goes on inside the victim's head. Well-written being the key word.

I love it when authors describe the little, seemgingly insignificant details, and then we find out in the end that they were important after all, and you have to go back to read that other part excitedly. For example, a guy finds out the hotel room he's staying in was once occupied by a girl who hanged herself. Like maybe, later on, he encounters a pretty girl in the lobby with a collared shirt, and only after they talk does he notice the reddish mark around her neck. Something like that.

    Nice story structure.
When you'll get an x narrative plan about A and then a y one about A's mother. Or when you have two different narrative plans that collide because of some random event.
It's amazing when someone manages to pull that off.

hard drug use. (properly researched, too. i can tell when people don't know what the hell they're talking about when they say "and then they got all doped up and it was so good but the needle hurt" i'd like to know more about their drug habit than that. what kind of addict are they?
I would also like to add: any drug use that's bound to sexual endeavours / addiction. I like it when they connect, when they're the cause for each other, when one leads to another.

I also like it related to music. Not the lifestyle. The feeling. I have always thought that there was some kind of hidden connection between the affects of drug use and the whole of music.

I don't know if that makes sense, ahah.
