Does anyone else often have a piece saved under a temporary name that they change when they post it?

For example, Bought and Paid For was originally called "Tailor Made" - and that's still what the Word .doc is saved as.

The Kamadeva Agent is saved simply as "MMF" because it was originally supposed to be a quick, dirty one-short or three-chapter. Then it exploded into the epicness it currently is.

Decemberundergrouns is saved as "Dystopia" and in the original draft the story continues much further, but the final version got rewritten to concentrate more on the events leading up to and the immediate aftermath of the escape.
i still have all of the stuff that was cut out. the 'bloopers', haha.

So yeah, what working titles do you guys use for your fics, and what changes do you make from first draft to posted-version?

I originally label files as random letters I type, such as djwekjmfkrfnrgk and normally think of titles on the spot, unless the title inspires the fic in the first place.

I tend to do that as well, but it made my folders a mess so when I got my new laptop I renamed many of my files.
Currently all my files are correctly named and I don't remember what they use to be.

I consider myself the queen of working titles...

Sick and Sain was "yeah so not random at all..."

She Had A Name is "screw you"

I have stories on my computer called like..."OMG! i want blue hair" "lmfao wtf..." "i don't care" "omglolhannahmontanaw00t"...

But I have real working titles too.

    A Real Forever was Decadent

What We Are switched in between What We Are and What Are We.

Sick Boy was going to be Black Sweatshirt Kids.

Brent was going to be The Other Bassplayer.

I usually get very anal over titles and I don't often re-title soo....

My files are usually saved with the names of the story itself as I make it after long thinking >.> and the title is already written on my notes so it's not like I need to use random titles but I do [rarely] re-name some stories:
Innocent Mistake was originally named The Sinner and the Sin but there was too much sinning going around :shifty
Other than that I usually name the file first then type it up >.>

The Window Seat had a different ending originally.

Brendon came by a few days later, completely trashed and begging to see Ryan. Ryan looked up from the window seat and blinked once. Then he turned away.

Brendon burst into tears and ran out of the apartment complex.

I went and sat beside Ryan who didn’t even turn to look at me. “It’s not all his fault. It was Pete. Pete made him feel like shit and then lied. By the time Brendon figured it out Pete had already broken you.”

    Ryan blinked.

The chapter "Parent" of "Boys Like You Are So Overrated" was saved as "Hey Jo" because that's the first thing I put.
The new chapter for the same story is saved as "lostmyself" because I was listening to Karma Police at the time.

A new story ("You're A Good Girl")'s first chapter (I'm debating on whether it's a one-shot right now, though) is saved as "any more sun".

And Kitchen Floor is just saved as Kitchen Floor.

All The Thoughts Wasted On You was originally Slutty Fool.

I pretty much never have working titles. I just save the document and the beginning of the first sentence in the story becomes the title. Unless it’s a story that revolves around a pairing, then I just put their names as the title.

Usually though I think of the title when I save the piece.

There are a few of my stories though which has/have had working titles.

"I Whish it Helped to Wish" had the working title “So Long and Goodnight”. Just so I would know what story it was. x ]

My autobiographyish story "When The Black Bird Sings" is still saved as "autobiography".

"Choreographed Denial", the fourth standalone in my one-shot collection, was simply called "Denial". It’s also written in six different versions; the sixth one being the version I submitted.

"When You Have Gone Astray" is saved as "butterfly drabble".

"Unfamiliar Eyes" has an alternate ending that differs quite a bit from the one that ended up in the story. It was the first ending I wrote but the second one I thought off. And sometimes one should just stick with the original idea. x ]

The first version of "Inside a Morbid Mind", the third standalone in my one-shot collection, was completely different from the one that’s now on Mibba. It was written in third person and the main character was a middle-aged man. I couldn’t make it work though, so I changed everything except the most basic parts of the storyline.

For standalones I usually write between three to eight versions. But with chapteerd stories I never rewrite anything. I may change a few words, maybe a sentence, but if I just don’t like what I’ve written I erase it and start over completely. I don’t just make a new version by editing the old piece. Have no idea why but yeah.

The only exception to that is my story "Pretend Just Pretend". I did actually edit the ending of the fourth (fifth if you count the prologue) chapter instead of deleting the ending and start over. Gerard’s inner monologue was original shorter and kind of bluntly cut off and Mikey were sort of left out, I guess you could say. It was pretty flat and choppy altogether to be quite honest. I blame it on the fact that I kept getting interrupted when writing the original ending. :XD

    On my computer documents,
Cameras Make Ghosts was originally Gerard the ghosthunter! Frank the burnt out starlette!
Gorgeous Bruises was (and still is) in which Gerard accepts creepy gifts from strangers! (Because that was the original concept of it, although that's not how it turned out, at all.
You're Never All Alone (now deleted) was originally saved as The Life and Times of Angie Brooks.

I usually just title the stories with the pairing, but these are the ones that had a working title:

Talk Dirty To Me was called Phone Sex.
Do You Want Romance? was called SLUTTY MATTY (yes, it was in capitals XDD).
Love In Slow Motion was called This Is Loveless.

A lot of stuff I just write the abbreviations of their title, like Break Your Little Heart is bylh.

But sometimes, it's just random, like What I Go To School For which is saved as Rock School.
