It was one of Sarah Dessen's books. I was re-reading it (I think it was This Lullaby or Just Listen), and that's what made me go back and start to re-write and edit all of my (the entire two of them) stories.

I don't know what it is, but I just think her books are so well written. From the second page, I feel like I've know the main character forever. And she seems to write about very realistic situations. If I could write a quarter as well as she can, I'd die happy.

I definitely second the girl above me. Just Listen and The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen really influenced my writing. Chuck Palahniuk's book Invisible Monsters helped it along, too. There are too many books to name, to be honest.

"Can't Get There From Here" by Todd Strasser.

It's a book about homeless kids, but there's one boy in there named "Jewel" and he has forever changed the way I view teenage boys and sexuality, older men looking at younger boys, etc, etc, etc. Not necessarily pedophilia, just blurring certain specturms of sexuality.

"Well Montag, take my word for it, I've had to read a few books in my time to know what I was about and the books say nothing! Nothing you can teach or believe. They're about nonexistant people, figments of the imagination, if they're fiction. And if they're nonficition, it's worse, one professor calling another an idiot, one philosopher screaming down another's gullet. All of them running about, putting out the stars and extinguishing the sun. You come away lost."
    -Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

It not only changed the way I write, but the way I read. The entire book has influenced me so much. The fact it revolves around the importance of literature and how... idiotic censorship can be is something that I think every writer can connect to. It's something everyone should read.
That book opened my eyes. I have always loved reading, but after I finished that book I was just amazed. It never occured to me how important literature was. I was so inspired, I changed my style of writing, how I looked at life, everything. I was Montag, now I'm much more of a Clarisse.

Tomorrow All Will Be Beautiful - Bridgid Lowry
I think that Bridgid Lowry influenced the way I write by making my ideas a little more whimsical than before. Also, I prefer to write short stories that have small conections with each other, in one book, thanks to her.

Everything I read influences my writing. Books, online stories, even magazines. But if I had to pick it would probably be anything by Kevin Brooks because he's such a good writer and writes about really realistic stuff. I've read most of his books, and I'm heavily influenced by his writing style. I only wish I could write like him.

"The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audry Niffenegger really influenced how I develop relationships and emotions. I mean, her writing style is beautiful, and that book influences pretty much everything I make.

The Dark Tower series, along with "The Stand" (both by Stephen King) changed the way I looked at the worlds I write about. How he creates new worlds like that, and makes them flow, makes me so envious. These two novels are my main inspiriation behind one of my stories, Wanderers of Ruin.

A lot of graphic novels influence the material I create as well. Watchmen, V For Vendetta, Preacher, and Batman are only a few.

"They danced the way some boys dance together—a little awkward and shy at first, but with a sturdy ease, a rhythm between them."
-Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block. (I'd actually forgotten where the quote was from, but it influenced the way I see the way boys interacting at first.)

You Don't Know Me by David Klass influenced me a lot, subtly, I think. Just his manner of writing. I think people can see if if they've read it.
OMG I freakin' love that book! Cheese I was so hoping at least one person here had read it too!

Um... I'm inspired or influenced by lots of random stuff. Honestly, I think some of my biggest influences and idols are musicians and lyricists. Music in general might be my biggest influence, whether I'm doing poetry, lyrics for a song, or writing a story. Some of my favorite lyricists (Billie Joe Armstrong, Justin Pierre, Gerard Way, Ben Gibbard, Rivers Cuomo, just to name a few) just seem to have the perfect words and know how to describe things in ways I wouldn't have even thought (probably because it's too great for me XD)

Some books, comics, or shows I like influence me a bit too. Like even the stuff that owns me, I get done reading it/ viewing it, and I'm just like "damn! I'm wasting my life! I gotta write something good!" (Umbrella Academy:Dallas is still making me kick my own ass regularly in this fashion. Doctor Who also makes me do this at least every day. lol)

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by yearrecedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter - tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms further...

The Great Gatsby- F. Scott Fitzgerald. That was the book that made me think I wanted to be a writer.

Bruce Brooks. He does a lot of sports books but has enough action going on outside the courts so that even me, a lazy kid, loves his books.

Kevin Brooks's Lucas is amazing and I read it in a day. Though the plot is simple, it's still interesting.

Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt!!!! Love that book. I read it in half a day actually, since the writing was so funny and the plotline was engaging and unique.

Her writing style is gorgeous, and her description is beyond amazing.
She's everything I want to be as a writer, and that has inspired me to write more and write better.

Have I said lilywhitelilith from LJ? She's changed the way I've written. A lot of my present-tense stream-of-consciousness oneshots are inspired by her writing style.

"If there's a book you really want to read but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it." -Toni Morrison.

That has pretty much summed up my feelings. Dr. Suess definitely inspired me, though I didn't know it when I was younger. I also look up to JK Rowling, Sarah Dessen, and LJ Smith. When I write, I try to write something I'd like to read. Those three/four are my favorite authors, so I try to follow in their footsteps.

Let's see, from around the age of eight up until the present I've read a good amount of books by Nora Robberts/J.D Robb.

I'd say she has influenced me, and actually made me want to write.

^I have a huge collection of books by her(under both names) that i've only gotten to skim through. But I can feel that i'm already gonna love her books :3

with me, though I don't know if they particularly changed my writing style, I'd say that The Losing Christine collection really kind of influenced me. Among other things, the least I can say is it's an amazing book.

    The Dark Tower series
I don't even know where to begin with it

Magician, Silverthorn, Prince of the Blood, Tear of the Gods, Rise of a Merchant Prince, Rage of a Demon King and Shards of a Broken Crown by Raymond E Feist

The way he kept most of the same characters going through those (and the ones I enjoyed less and didn't list) blew my mind with the like, just overall epic plot that ran through them all and just the complexity of it all and oh my its such a masterpeice and it really made me change the way I viewed everything I wrote after I was eleven.
