See, now I just wonder what people say about Americans.
Well what people say about american isn't always what they believe about them.

Haha I'm pretty sure i mentioned what the aussie think earlier, a couple of pages back maybe?

I'm from South Dakota. Which is up north above Nebraska and below North Dakota. I have no idea what kind of stereotypes we have. Most people don't even know we exist. Which isn't much of a shock. File

I come from a Middle Eastern background. The other day when I was getting my hair cut I got into this debate with the hairdresser, because she seemed to be under the impression that every woman in the Middle East is oppressed and has no rights.
That's absolutely not true. Just putting that out there. It really bugged me that she thought that.

I find it funny how people in the States make up stereotypes for Mexicans when we ourselves already have many based on what part of the country you're from. Like, my mom is from a small town so when she went to college people teased her whenever they saw a plane and said she confused it with a bird. Which she didn't, obviously.

As far as stereotypes go, people from Monterrey are cheap, people from Sinaloa are drug-dealers, people from the capital are delinquents... What I do know is true is that our accents are unbelievably different... but maybe I'm biased. Shifty

^Hey, I'm American and pretty good with geography, but I sometimes have to guess at what the abbreviations mean. There are some that could be more than one state if you don't know it. Maine always gets me - it's ME.

    It's so confusing!
I have all these friends i meet on websites and they (even the people in forums) are always mentioning their abbreviation's rather than their full names i have no clue where they're talking about... in Australia we only have 6 states and 2 territories so it's a little easier to abbreviate and guess which ones you're talking about Wink

But yeah, I love the stereotypes people have about Britain, I find them hilarious. Especially about the tea-drinking, horrible weather, cucumber sandwiches, red buses and the queen and our silly accents. It's one of the reasons I like being British, actually :con:
I feel exactly the same way.
    People are silly. tehe

I recently learned that when a friend Megan of mine went to visit her cousin in Ireland last year, her cousin was shocked to see that Megan wasn't black. She thought all Americans were black... lmfao

I know the stereotypes aren't true most of the time. We've got some pretty terrible ones for where I live actually. XD

But she actually thought all Americans were black.
Wow I worded my last post so awkwardly. That's what I get for typing in a hurry.

Oh, no, I got that you meant Americans. I just used that movie as an example, since it was the same sort of situation. Though, with all of the celebrities from America, how could anyone think all Americans are black? I could understand someone thinking that about Africa (since the white folk aren't the ones starving), but America? Weird.

Trust me, lot of stereotypes aren't true.

For instance: If Australian had pet kangaroos and rode emus to school and work and lived in a cave, why the hell do we have electricity and cars?

My friend though Canadian's lived in igloos; 'cause they can get electricity to talk to people...

I mean seriously, people have to be a little bit realistic. Not all women are floozies and not all men are working class. Disgust
