MM Reviews: Living a Nightmare

ImageTitle: Living A Nightmare
Author: Red Ribbon Girl
Genre: Fantasy
Type: Original Fiction
Rating: PG-13

Ezmeralda hasn’t exactly had the most enjoyable life. When her parents finally get a divorce she is more than happy to get away from her Father, even if that means moving to a completely new place with her Mother. Her first day in the new town is full of strange encounters, mainly with a boy called Dennis. The boy with the oddly coloured eyes. The boy that makes Ezmeralda’s senses scream that something isn’t right.

All seems fine and well as she makes new friends and develops a love interest, but when her new friends tell her they’re a little different she can’t help but be curious. Little did she know that she’d be a “little different” too. Faced with new threats and new powers Ezmeralda has to quickly adapt to her new life. Juggling her friends, family, responsibilities and potential boyfriend will Ezmeralda find that it’s a little too much to handle or that she’s stronger than she thinks?

Living A Nightmare is an incomplete original fiction by the author Red Ribbon Girl. The story is face paced and is full of description and information right from the beginning. The story begins with a partial description of Ezmeralda’s previous life before she had been forced to move, providing the reader with a bit of background on the young protagonist as well as an insight to the girls attitude.

Straight away, in the first chapter, the reader is supplied with a new character and a new setting, kick starting a chain of events that will undoubtedly unfold as the story develops. The introduction of the new character Dennis provides a promise of excitement and mystery throughout the tale and straight away the reader is witness to some of the power the new stranger holds as Esmeralda starts changing her mind to do whatever he wants with just a look in his eyes.

The plot thickens as we are introduced to a group of young men all of whom claim to be Dennis’ friends and brothers, each with their own shadow of mystery. The story is full of unexpected twists which draw the readers attention deeper into the plot as they try to figure out what the next move might be.

However, like all stories, it is not flawless. For example, due to the lack of spacing between lines of dialogue it may be difficult to read and follow for some people and they may find themselves getting lost and confused as to whom it is talking at which specific point. But, other than the occasional spelling mistake or missing word, the story is great and enjoyable to read.

I, personally, agree with the comments left on the story: “Aw : ) I can’t wait for more,” “I love the update, especially with the marks growing green and blue,” and “This is an amazing story.” I think, although there are a couple of things which could be improved, it is an easy read and a has a wonderful plot to follow. I give this story 3.5 stars out of 5 and look forward to the next update.
