Featured Poem: Graduation Day
"Graduation Day" is a exquisite poem written by Queen of Suburbia. This amazing poem tells all about graduation day -- something which many of Mibba's users have experienced or will experience in their lifetime. In this week's Featured Poem, we take a look at this amazing piece.
How would you summarize "Graduation Day"?
"Graduation Day" is about the moment when you are about to graduate and you're just looking back on life, remembering the trials and errors of growing up and how time flies and then you're getting ready to take the next big step in life.
How did you choose the title for it?
There was no better way to sum it up. It was essentially about graduating and about the moments when you look back and you are amazed at how much time has passed.
What inspired you to write this poem?
The day I wrote this was the day I was preparing to graduate from high school. To kill some time I logged onto Facebook and saw a bunch of statuses from my classmates talking about memories they have and what graduating means to them. It just inspired me, the emotions everyone was going through and what they were saying was running through their mind as they got ready to graduate as well.
What was your favorite thing about writing "Graduation Day"?
The memories I got when writing this. I could remember what it was like to climb on the bus in kindergarten, and how I felt going into high school as opposed to when I was graduating.
When writing, do you have any rituals you follow?
When writing poems I don't tend to have any rituals. They usually are very spur of the moment and deal with whatever emotion I am feeling at the time.
Is there anything you would like to say to anyone who reads your poem?
I hope that the reader will also be able to revisit the memory they had of graduating and being able to look back and feel like they had accomplished something and still have so much more they want to accomplish.
Do you have any other poems you think people would enjoy?
I usually don't write poems like this one. Usually my poems have a more melancholy mood to them. One poem that I have tells a story -- Does the Man Have a Prayer?. Another is lyrics I wrote a long time ago [called] Just Lost in the Memories.
