I have never participated in the National Novel Writing Month before, and now that I have read this article, I am definitely going to join in next November. I believe it will push me to make time to actually write (and write a lot), and to start making writing a priority again.

I do have to say that in your article, your use of abbreviations is far too excessive for informational text, and is quite distracting. It seemed as if the whole page was filled with "NaNoWriMo," "NaNo," and "WriMers." It's sore on the eyes; especially for someone, like myself, who had never seen those abbreviations before and did not know that they meant.

This was an enjoyable, well-written article that got your point across well and was very informational.

:D I thoroughly enjoyed this article. I never had the courage to attempt NaNoWriMo until just last year... and unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the routine. Of course I'm the only one at fault. But hey, I'm a sleep-deprived, thought-discombobulated, over-stressed college student. I really do wish that maybe NaNoWriMo could be done during a different time of the year, but it would not be the same. ^_^

This was a beautifully written article, and I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I just did NaNoWriMo for the fourth year in a row - the first few years it was all about the word count for me and how fast I could reach it, but the previous two years have been more important. I can hit that 50k mark in less than two weeks no problem, so that's not my challenge. My challenge to myself was to write an original novel that I could actually be happy with.

And this year, I achieved that goal, all thanks to NaNoWriMo. My second draft is already in the works - and this after a whole year of not being able to start the same novel.

I've participated in years past, and I've always crapped out at around 17000. This year, I made it to 5000 before I fell apart because November was crazy. (Example: past two weeks: dead dog, teacher suicide, figuring out Tylenol has been causing my recurring lung pain, and finals.)

So I and some of my friends are making our own NaNo starting in two weeks. It'll be interesting.

This is a great article, and couldn't be more true!
I participated, the first time ever, this year, and it surely wasn't just a rush to write out everything, it was a rush to make my skeleton, so I can totally get it perfect, afterwards. I didn't got to the 50,000 words, unfortunately, but I've been crazy with school taking over me.
I hope this gets on again, next year, so I can try, once again! This was an amazing challenge, and it surely helped me get my head on my novel!

Great article! It's very clear and easy to understand (in personal opinion) ;)
I am a participant of NaNo WriMo myself (had to stop though due to exam issues...)
Thanks for writing this article! :D

This was such a well written article and I absolutely loved it! Everything in it is so true about the bonding that comes from NaNo. Even friends of mine who don't do it and just think I'm crazy are supportive and it's a great way to make yourself actually write=] the story I wrote/am writing this year has been in plotting stages since '08 and its like a high, getting so close to the end. Again, amazing article, and more motivation to write=D
