Yeah, well, I do wish that they'd have a happily ever after (except that then I wouldn't have much to write). Also, I think that happily ever after is somewhat traditional. And we all know what Jack would say to traditions; "Never actually been one for tradition". So I couldn't really put it. And if Beckett was gone, there wouldn't be much of a story left (I still have so much in store for him, in the sequel I mean). Thanks so much for the comment!
