Haha well, her mom is bitter and old and in a lot of pain. Think about it, she lost two sons and now she's losing her husband. The only one she'll have left is Grace and Grace is away at school. She'll be alone.
But yeah, her mother is bitchy haha. I always intended her to be. :D

Thanks for the comment. I know it seems like it's taking forever, but I think more or less they're both cautious about taking chances right now. At this point, the characters have really taken on minds of their own, and Emily keeps going back to Roger. She's scared, and it's clear that Fred is, too. They’ve been friends for six years at this point, and I don’t think either of them is ready to just jump into something bigger without thinking hard about the consequences. Both of them are discovering themselves at this point and trying to figure out exactly what they want. Even Fred doesn't seem so sure right now. I know it must be frustrating that she's being so stupid, but I feel like, as Fred said, it's more that she doesn't understand that going back to Roger is bad for her, you know? I hope that makes sense. :) Hopefully her relationship with Fred will start growing a little faster.

The one thing about Prickled is it's kind of up to the reader to decide if Riddle actually likes Grace.
The Grace and Joseph thing, well, we'll find out soon enough about that.

Haha yes, well. Grace has a hard time trusting people and she likes to believe that she doesn't have feelings for anyone. Also, she has trust issues.
But yeah, her friends tend to hang around her because they feel guilty about it.
But there's going to be a big turn around when it comes to one of her friends in upcoming chapters.
