Sure I'd get around to looking at it :3
No not really....but if someone requested for me to do one I probably will. Just 'cause I like to make people happy and I like writing ^.^
They say it's haunted. They say people have died here, and that their spirits roam the forest, looking for revenge on the people who put them in their purgatorial state. They say that it isn't safe to walk alone, or even in pairs through here. They say the spirits grab people; they take them from their daily lives forever. They say that they kill them.
So, to be quite frank with you, I have no idea why we're here.
I'm clambering over tree roots, my blouse is getting caught on twigs and branches, I'm too warm, I'm sweaty, and most of all, I just want to go home. I'm a girl, for God’s sake; I'm not built like he is! He can cope with all of this physical activity, but I'm already out of breath.
I can see him up ahead, hopping over branches and tree roots with ease. Not one mousey brown hair is out of place on his head, and his clothes are almost spotless.
“Nicholas!” I call breathlessly ahead. He turns around and smiles, before letting out a rich, musical laugh and double-tracking, grabbing a hold of my wrist to help me over a particularly tall stump.
As I stand up on the first solid piece of ground I've felt in what seems like an age, My eyes ponder. There is some sort of ancient beauty about it, the forest. It's dark, but not eerily so. The sun is shining merrily; I know that. However, the only light getting in through the thick foliage blocking out the afternoon sun is sparse, and green. The entire forest is bathed in a green glow. Even my white shirt has a leafy tinge about it. And even though most of the trees lying on the floor are covered in damp moss, they add to the beauty.
oWe stand there for a few minutes, Nicholas and I. We just stare.
“Amazing, isn’t it,” Nicholas mumbles, breaking the silence. I turn and switch my attention from our surroundings to his zoned-out eyes.
“Why are we here?” I ask, searching for an answer anywhere on his tanned face. He merely smiles, taking a hold of my wrist gently and tugging at it. I frown, but allow myself to be led forward, further and further into the forest.
We reach a clearing. It is at this point that Nicholas releases his light grip of my wrist, and walks to the centre. Here lies a burnt-out fire with smoke still slithering out from the ashes, with a hexagon boarder made out of moss coated logs. The nagging feeling that someone is watching us seems to intensify, so much so that I find myself checking over my shoulder subconsciously.
Nicholas chuckles at my paranoia, and pats the wood beside him. Despite every muscle in my body screaming at me not to follow through with his request, I sit down beside him. A strange sense of complete and utter bliss washes over me. For the first time since entering the forest, I felt completely and utterly calm.
“The heart of the forest,” Nicholas says slowly, looking straight at me, “That’s where we are.”
I look out in front of us. Just ahead, there is a tree lying on the ground. It looks old, as if it has been resting amongst the creatures of the earth for many years. Moss had almost made it unrecognisable.
“People think this forest is a bad place, don’t they?” Nicholas asks me. I notice that he has diverted his attention, and is once again staring out at the view in front of us.
“I guess they do, yeah,” I nod, thinking about my earlier thoughts. It didn’t seem as if anything could happen in this calm and serene area of the planet.
“I think there are spirits here, like the legends go, but I don’t think they mean any harm. Malicious intent seems to be above them,” Nicholas muses.
“What makes you think that?” I ask, looking around again. He could be right.
“I used to come here as a child, you know. To get away from it all,” Nicholas stares, ignoring my question completely. I simply watch him, waiting for an explanation.
“My parents used to argue a lot. It upset my sister, so I always took her out of the house when it happened. We would come here; it was just a little place we discovered on a walk one night. It got her away from the arguing, and it calmed us both down. Even though she and I don’t talk any longer, I still think of this as a place of tranquillity. No one has ever hurt me here, and I don’t think they have any intention of harming either of us.”
As I watch my best friend thoughtfully, it suddenly occurred to me that I know a lot less about him than I like to think I do.
“I’ve always believed in ghosts, and I didn’t want to come here at first, ‘cause of all the stories. But it really is quite beautiful,” I reply simply, not knowing entirely what to say. He turns around, and smiles.
“I wanted to show you this for that reason. I think people sometimes miss out the good things in life because they are too scared to try things out, or visit new places. Everyone is always looking for that special place in life, the place where they can truly be themselves. Here is where I think I belong. You asked earlier why I brought you here. That’s the reason.”
Once again, I am speechless. Never in his life have I ever heard Nicholas talking the way he is right now. It’s almost as if the forest has had a positive effect on him.
“I like it here,” I say finally, as I return the small smile he has hovering on his lips.
And that was where we stayed for the rest of the afternoon, sitting cross-legged beside each other, admiring the simple forces of nature.
Some people say it’s haunted here. Some people say the spirits kill.
And I could write oneshots... though I guess I've never really tried
