Well, Kara and Rian aren't actually together anymore. And I originally thought that by not having them together in the story, he would become some sort of romantic interest for Airlie.
But he's not anymore. So K and R broke up, Airlie was broken and they kind of just magnetised together. Sorry, it might be confusing. That's why she was asking him if he was happy and stuff earlier in the story.
It will be explained, don't worry :)
