    Whoever told you that was wrong. It's only when dialogue is followed by he/she/they/I/we/etc and screamed/said/shouted/asked/mused/whispered/etc that you don't use a period but a comma instead. So in those places you got it right. But if the following sentence is a completely new sentence, like [i]"I love you." Her words were hollow.[/i]

    It's not that I think you should've added a bunch of rambling, but just like, more of a picture. What did things smell like? What was the color of their walls? Did the sun shine through the curtains as he cooked? You know, just throwing in details to paint a bit of a picture. :)
