It's about an author named Paul Sheldon who writes these really popular books about a character named Misery. Anyway, he goes to colorado to finish his newest book and while he's driving home, gets in a horrible accident. He's found and rescued by an ex-nurse named Annie Wilkes who is also a huge fan of his books. It turns out that Annie is a deranged psycho who goes crazy when she finds out that Paul killed off the character Misery in his latest book and forces him to write a new book bringing her back to life. It gets pretty gruesome too. They made a movie based on the book with James Caan as Paul and Kathy Bates as Annie (she won an oscar for her role too). The book is definitely better but the movie is still awesome.

I don't know how good your band is, but a real great beginner song is "Fell In Love With A Girl", by the White Stripes. Anything White Stripes is great because its a two person band, and getting together in time is the real trick. Those songs you mentioned sound a little rough to play all together, it'll be crazy work, but good luck.
