I'm a muslim too and I've just been bending the truth a lot just so it will fit the story. And I guess I'm trying to present different variations of people within the faith.
And to answer your question, no we don't. In writing, like emails or text message I tend to do that so I just use it for the story as well. We usually say Assalamualaikum. And I know some people who say Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahiwabarakattu. And I know! I love that it says Barakat at the end because Barakat means Allah's blessing, it's just pronounced different then Jack pronounces it and you probably already knew that, lol.
