I believe some people are so used to being coddled and referred to as "geniuses" that they can't take a hit like that to their ego, even a small, helpful one. I simply try speaking my mind in the politest way possible.

That is something that I'm very disappointed to say that this site desperately needs. How are writers, or anyone for that matter, expected to go without that? Praise is good, but it can only get you so far if that's all you hear. I think many people avoid because they don't want to hurt feelings or something along those lines.
