It's repetitive for a reason. The whole point is that he is supposed to be going back and forth in his mind of what to do, which in turn is repetitive. There's no other way that it could be written, because the whole point is that it's supposed to be repetitive. It's coming to the high point of the story so far in the next couple of chapters, anyway.
