If I were you, I wouldn't let it get me too down. Since the people who commented only got one side of the story, it's sort of not their fault. Not only that, but they weren't aware it was about you.

Because your friend is involved, maybe? I mean, I'm a very maternal person and get incredibly upset when someone I care about is insulted. Maybe you're the same way.
It could also be that they never mentioned you directly, so you still have a few doubts and it won't let you rest until you know for sure.
I'm not really sure how much trouble they'd get in if they didn't name you specifically, but I do know that cyber bullying is something that's being made more aware and punishable. You can always report abuse on facebook.
