I think he likes you, sticking up for you and asking for your number all in one week, are major steps. I could be wrong but I have a good feeling he likes you, and he might think you like a guy who is full of himself, maybe he knows your music likes, like for instance, Jack and Alex from All Time Low give this vibe they are full of themselves but love the girlfriends they have, so idk that just a possability you know.

I think you really do like him and maybe you should ask him to go to Sushi or Pizza with you, be the one to take the first step, some guys like that. That is adorable for him to say he'll protect you from drunk guys.

ahhh it made me soo happy :] my friend went to their concert the other night and since i couldn't make it she asked him to call me so he did :]
