I can't actually smoke while writing either because I smoke outside. But I do like to go outside and smoke a cigarette and think about the story from the character's mindset. As if I were them.
I also like to write down lyrics that inspire me. I look up quotes on the internet. Sometimes I also spend hours on Wikipedia looking up nursery rhymes and fairy tales and royalty and shit. Just anything that makes me think.
I like to watch a movie and then go upstairs and try to write. I like to think I can write while watching TV, but I can't for shit.
Wordspills can also really help when you're stuck. You basically just set your font color to white on Word or whatever and type for five minutes straight without rereading so you're not being critical of what you've written.
And I also mainly just try to write everyday, even if it's shit, even if it's a drabble, even if it will not get posted. Because writing, for me, needs to be a habit as well as my passion. It just keeps me writing.
I woved this story it was insane what a night.
