oh and the reason your photo doesnt show up is because there's different photos for everything:
the place you clicked to get that picture up there is where you have to put a picture of yourself. It's a dumb rule, but if it's not you/you with friends then you get deleted.
Your avatar under the sidebar profile is where you can pick the picture you want in that question mark when you comment. that can be pictures of anyone.
Oh and to comment people back you can go on their page and comment lol.
