I'm like the same way with my stories,
I have them all loaded on my flash drive, but i hate putting them up, I deleted two of them because they weren't getting comments.. so now I have my friends read them and get their opinion.

I don't believe in God, exactly.
I have no religion, because my dad grew up without one.
And, I grew up celebrating some holidays, but also not practicing the religion.
Now that I'm older, my parents tell me it's my choice, really. And, I haven't desided. But, I don't believe in God right now, exactly. Because of all this happening at this one time.
&+ when I told my ex boyfriend (Who was my current boyfriend at that time) that I didn't have a religion, nor believe in God. He had ended it with me, and lied to me saying we were going to fast. It was because I was bi, and didn't believe in God. He said I would burn in hell, and all this crapp.

So, I am along with you on this one. And, friends do scatter amazingly fast when they hear something they don't like.
