Okay, well a submission in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a technique a person uses on someone to make that person "submit" or give up because they're in so much pain that they have to tap-out (which tells the ref to stop the fight. Go here for some really good examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeLUlk9d9W0 And you can just search "mma submissions" on youtube for other videos if you're interested! A defensive stance is just taking a closed position to guard yourself against the attacker. You are simply defending yourself, not attacking. An offensive stance is where you're going at the other guy, trying to get him/her into a position where you can pull a submission.
