That person is remembering what happened in the past, clearly remembering every second. The love the narrator had for another was deep, believing the words the other said. Lies like I'll never hurt you, only because they were afraid they would lose the narrator from their life.
How can the narrator make progressions, when he/she believes its an eye for an eye? Revenge is a cold dish or however you people say that in English. Revenge will never make you happy, even if you think it will.
There are situations when we want revenge but when the time has passed and we think back on it, we realize revenge would get us nowhere and we give up on that thought.
Once again, I'm not sure if that was what you wanted to make us feel but that's what came on my mind.

Actually, you hit the nail on the head pretty much. The point being progressions mean nothing when revenge is on the mind. An eye for an eye may feel good in the beginning, but does nothing to help you in the long run really.
