Lovers in Ink

You danced like lovers
At the hem of the skirt of Romance
And how you twirled and twisted!

I watched you intertwine
In a hundred beautiful ways--
Never the same dance twice--
Creating pictures paint never could.

I watched you come together
Push apart
Back and forth in an endless rhythm
All your own.

Words weaving gifts of
Love and hate and beauty
Finding solace in poetry.

But you and I, we were never lovers.
We danced at the hem of the skirt of Romance
And how you twirled and twisted!
I envied your grace and elegance
And I would always fall short.

But still, pen to paper
I drained my heart for you.
