Havens

I once knew a maiden fair
Bright of face
And golden hair.
She had a soft embrace.

Her beauty was marveled at.
Men from afar came to look.
At their arrogance she spat.
In the end, it was me she took.

Her voice was like a song bird’s
Her laugh was like a bubbling book.
Soft and kind were her words
Grace filled every step that she took.

Her knowledge of all things was vast
She knew my heart,
And she stole it fast
We knew we would never part.

The seasons and years went by
And still our love was continually growing.
The years went by with a sigh.
Never did we sense the cold wind blowing.

She grew old, whilst I did not.
To some immortality is a blessing, to me it seems a curse.
I suppose this is what fate has wrought.
It did not stop at that, O’ no, it kept getting worse.

Death came and knocked for my lady.
Over and over I consistently denied him.
He kept trying again and again, through means most shady.
I vowed to never let him accomplish something so grim.

I tried all manner of things to keep her alive
My darling grew worse.
When once more Death arrived,
I knew in my heart I would soon see a hearse.

She begged me to let her die,
I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
I said, “There must be some time I can buy!”
Inside, my heart was split.

She said that I would see her again,
That I was not to fear.
She said she would no longer be in pain,
She said not to shed a tear.

I gave in,
I let her go.
I let her fly,
I still keep asking myself why.

I know she is better, but I wish for another way.
My heart stings from this loss.
I still remember our days.
I know what I did was right, but at what cost?

I know someday I will see her again,
So now I sail away,
To the Havens where we will meet again.
My heart’s guidance would not betray.

I once knew a maiden fair
Bright of face
And golden hair.
She had a soft embrace.

Her beauty was marveled at.
Men from afar came to look.
At their arrogance she spat.
In the end, it was me she took.

Her voice was like a song bird’s
Her laugh was like a bubbling book.
Soft and kind were her words
Grace filled every step that she took.

Her knowledge of all things was vast
She knew my heart,
And she stole it fast
We knew we would never part.

I see my love once more.
My heart is filled with glee.
We are together once more,
I’m with my fair, fair lady.
