Unearth's New Album 'Marches" into Stores

Unearth's New Album 'Marches" into Stores Influential metal band, Unearth, has finally released their follow up to 2006’s III: In the Eyes of Fire. The March, released October 14, is a departure from the band'sprevious efforts, thanks in large-part to new drummer Derek Kerswill. Kerswill, who was often a fill-in for the band, joined the band after they split with former drummer, Mike Justian.

The album’s opening track, “My Will Be Done,” is also the lead single. The intro will please Unearth fans, new and old. It has the usual focus on guitars, with heavy drums and bass to accent it. Throughout the song, the differences between Kerswill and Justian are quite noticeable. While Justian focused more on bringing heavy beats, Kerswill focuses more on the groove. He wants to set up the focus to be on the guitar riffs they are known for. This, however, does not mean the drumming lacks a required heaviness. It just means that Kerswill’s approach is different.

Not only did Kerswill provide the drumming on this album, he also provided lyrics to one of the songs. “Letting Go” is a song about betrayal and seeing the truth behind a loved one’s image. Sample lyrics include: ”Conscience breathing deep, seeing light for the first time, the tides they turn and push me down, confrontation speaks- seems like now not forever, and in my mind I’m gaining ground.” The lyrics are powerful and relatable. The music fits the lyrics well, making the listener feel the emotions that it is trying to portray.

Unearth’s lyrics are always ones you can feel safe listening to around your grandma. The music may be heavy and face melting, but the lyrics always have positive messages and never have profane language. Visit the band’s myspace to hear both new and old music. Also on their page is a video for “My Will Be Done.” If you like what you hear, it is highly recommended that you pick up The March.
